RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Who would you take out?

no one-but who would you use to replace one of our current D men if they unfortunately got hurt? or for that matter what would you do up front if one forward got hurt? We are playing great-we have great chemistry-but we could have 6+ games to play (hopefully) and getting through them without an injury would be lovely but you just never know.

Would you drive your car cross country, through some remote areas, without having a spare in the trunk?

Your follow up question was never in doubt; I knew we desired some insurance. I was merely curious if you had the intentions of seeing one of them play. Since you mentioned you'd like to see the dressed roster left as is, that answers my question.

Why 6 and not 5 or 8? What's special about 6?

Would you drive your car cross country, through some remote areas, without having a spare in the trunk?
That would depend on whether I could find a 2nd car small enough to fit in the trunk! :D

I am glad that we had an extra week for the current Dmen to heal whatever little hurts they were playing with. At this time of year everyone has some bumps and bruises that need time to heal.
I would love to have at least one healthy defenseman to back up the current six.
We are very thin on both offense and defense and cannot afford anyone to get hurt enough to miss games.

Of course other teams are also. According to their thread, SLU is down to 5 healthy dmen.

I picked 6+ since that would more than likely be enough to get us to the frozen four. Anything after than would be gravy and covered in the +.:)

I know there are so many car models now that come with run flats and no spare-but I would never own one. I am extremely old fashioned when it comes to that kind of security and safety and insist on at least having a spare that can get me out of trouble. For years cars have had these donuts-capable of 50mph and 50 miles of driving. But our Audi has a spare than can be driven a lot further-albeit still at the 50mph limit.

What we don't know is if the injuries listed by other teams are season ending-or just day to day. Brown has, for example, an injury list of about 5-but a couple are listed as day to day so they may not be as short handed as it seems on the surface. I do not know the status of the SLU defensemen who are out and whether they are out for the remainder of the season or could return as early as this friday. For that matter-i am ot even sure of our own status-we could have up to 3 of our wounded return-or we might not have any of them available at all.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Nice to see SA get some much deserved recognition (fabulous job this year)-but i suspect Pecknold gets this one with QU ranked #1 everywhere.

I do too, but QU was picked 4th in both polls while we were picked 8th and 9th. So we finished 6 or 7 spots higher than predicted while QU was only 3 spots higher.

Nice to see Appert in the conversation, he certainly deserves it. However, I don't see how you can vote against Pecknold.
Great year for both coaches.

Thanks Senna-but I have to give credit for this one to Jenny. I read her the interview and it was her first reaction.:)

Babo has said fantastic things about meeting you and from your knowledege in posts, plus your healthy fear of what seems like an amazing spouse, I'm very much looking forward to meeting you at some point soon. Maybe between my NYS and I, we'll bring sme Russian "friends" and enough infused vodka for us all !!!

Not necessarily... when Yale was ranked #1, didn't "no comment" win Coach of the Year?

The team's been playing pretty well, it's hard to mess with what's working. That said, if Tinordi was available this coming weekend you've got to put him into the lineup somewhere, I would think Fulton would be the odd man out with Burgdoerfer taking his place on the Miller line. They're both playing well, but Burgdoerfer's playing very, very well right now.

O'Grady I'm a little unsure of, though it has sounded in the past like he was hanging them up for all intents and purposes - probably a good idea considering his concussion issues.

Would be nice to get Bokenfohr and/or Hampton back, if only for injury insurance on D - the six guys that have been rolling basically since December have been pretty solid.

+1. I ompletely agree on Burgdorfer and with O'Grady. Nows not the time to be changing things.

It will happen-as long as we can all stay healthy. Meeting Babo was a highlight for us. Jenny felt the immediate connection. I always trust Jen's judgement-I was totally academic-she is just plain street smart. An absolute great judge of people. As far as being afraid of her? No way! I am just very cautious as over the years I have seen her demonstrate that hot Italian temper. I've said it many times-if I was involved in some sort of bar fight I would want her with me on my side. BTW- I would also have a few others i would like to be on my side-The BRO for sure and from years ago Bryan Tapper. :)

I wouldn't mind having Jimmy DeVito on my side eitehr.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

SA nominated for ECAC Coach of the Year.....along with Allain & Pecknold... http://www.rpiathletics.com/news/2013/3/12/MHOCK_0312133808.aspx?path=hockey

FWIW, the article says Appert is four wins shy of 100, so his 100th win should coincide with the program's 1000th win, and if we make it there this season it'll also be the ECAC championship, if my calculations are correct. :) Could be a pretty historical game for RPI hockey if we make it, but there's a lot left before we get there.

Not necessarily... it could be a 1st round win in the NCAA tournament. I however wouldn't mind seeing #104 and 1004 this year. 8 more to go. Someone needs to throw the octopus on the ice at the HFH on Friday!

Winning a 1st round game in the NCAAs would also be fine with me. :) Would mean we'd finally scored in the NCAA tournament again. No matter where you look right now this ream is ready to make some RPI Hockey history if they keep playing the right way.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Over the weekend I wrote a massive spreadsheet that calculates PWR. Now I can run simulations easily. I also started working on "enhanced" PWR charts. Here's one that shows comparisons, including those that are lurking just below the TUC cliff. You can also see how close a team's comparisons are:

http://www.cool-studio.net/2013-03-13_PWR.pdf

I gave the RPI (ratings point) comparison a value of 1.5 wins since it is a tiebreaker. In cases where the comparison is only a 0.5 or 1.5 point victory, that comparison is probably at higher risk. You can see that in the chart.

It's not optimal yet, because some 0.5 and 1.5 victories are pretty secure. When I get some time I'll try to make some risk-weighting algorithms that do a better job of identifying the comparisons that are at the highest risk. Let me know if it works for you, or if there are any scenarios that you want me to run.
