RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

For several teams, I'm sure they do make sense. The difference between you and me is that one is typing from a macro sense (hockey in general), and one is typing from a micro sense (the 2012-13 RPI Engineers). If an entire regular season is not big enough of a sample space to tell you that something hasn't been working for a specific team, then there's nothing that will satisfy you. Will the 4-1 work with next year's Engineers? Perhaps it is possible, but we won't know until we see next year's Engineers. However, from a standpoint of this year's Engineers, it is not working.

You fail at statistics. That's all.

Fascinating as always. Interesting how he has focused on the Minnesota State games we blew late leads in.You never know, even early in the season what will come back and haunt you.

I singled those out because they were early in the season and were notable back-to-back games in which the Engineers blew leads. They had a 2-goal lead late on Friday and had to settle for a tie. They had a 2-goal lead on Saturday, blew that, came back to tie, and then lost in overtime. If those games were a win and a tie instead of a tie and a loss, the Engineers are 11th in the Pairwise right now, a much better place to be sitting. 10th if they won both, results that were certainly in the grasp at one point in both games.

Add those 2 games to the last minute blown tie against Union (hope Mr Kotyra is reading this) and perhaps even the lost chance for a tie with QU as we give up a short hander on a 5 on 3 opportunity late in the game and we could be in the top 6 PWR. Cannot really do this though as the retrospectoscope is not a fair way to look at things. After all we won a few games late also. But your point is extremely well taken-we cannot ever afford to let up-not even in October. With PWR being the be all and end all-you have to keep your foot on the opponent's throat until the final buzzer. One point lost can be the difference in getting into the tournament or getting a much better position in the standings.

Could technically say "what if" with any game. If RPI were 34-0-0, they'd be #1 PWR. The Union and Quinnipiac games you mentioned didn't include any point in time where the Tute was leading, the Mankato games were different in that respect, which is why I mentioned them. The BU game is the only other one that really sticks out in my mind in that respect.

Nice article. I really didn't like taking Neal off the top line when it was done, but that seemed to open up scoring for all the lines going forward.
Great move, and SA gets all the credit for that move and the other moves he has made since January.
Who knows, maybe we will be giving Aspydad credit for his evaluation of the coach at the end of the season. I hope so.

I also didn't like breaking the NHL line up, but what a difference it has made. We have had others step into the line up due to injuries and have been integral to the teams success. THIS is why you recruit captains and leaders - the team is playing the way it is because guys have taken personal responsibility for the collective success of the group.

We were all down at the beginning of the year due to our record! But have righted a couple things and now look like we can play with anyone. Aspy should be given credit as he never waivered.

Gotta get your kicks somehow. ;)

well enough for you, though you might be interested to learn about this quaint, archaic concept called "manners" in which one also imagines how his words or actions might affect others, and then, (shocking, I know) actually thinks about what he says or does ahead of time, to adjust one's words and actions to acknowledge the value in getting along with said others.

It's one thing to be "cute" when you are six, and another thing entirely when you purport to be an adult.

Of course-and I can point to so many things in each game. I only mention the two i did because of the late call or error that cost us and to accentuate how just a few small things can mean the difference from a PWR level of #14 and one of a level of #6. I had totally forgotten about the BU game. Perhaps next year we could be 34-0-0 and none of this will matter at all.:)

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Back to the hockey season-do we have any idea if we will be getting any of the wounded guys back for this weekend? I suspect if the injuries were in any way minor-that 2 weeks would have helped. But if they were substantial-then we will just have to go with the cards we have. I was really just referring to the 2 D men and Matt T. I understand the injury to Zach was season ending and perhaps the same for Marty.

Someone missed the joke. Of course I'd be shocked if ANYONE got it, think that NY road through Wynantskill.

Who would you take out?

Zach we know his since a redshirt was applied for. I also read that O'Grady was year ending, but one can still hope. Tinordi -- who knows. As to the 2 dmen, I am still not sure when they got injured. I obviously didn't add anything to what you wrote.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

The team's been playing pretty well, it's hard to mess with what's working. That said, if Tinordi was available this coming weekend you've got to put him into the lineup somewhere, I would think Fulton would be the odd man out with Burgdoerfer taking his place on the Miller line. They're both playing well, but Burgdoerfer's playing very, very well right now.

O'Grady I'm a little unsure of, though it has sounded in the past like he was hanging them up for all intents and purposes - probably a good idea considering his concussion issues.

Would be nice to get Bokenfohr and/or Hampton back, if only for injury insurance on D - the six guys that have been rolling basically since December have been pretty solid.
