RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

So apparently the ECAC is using America One for webcasting the ECAC playoffs: http://www.ecachockey.com/men/2012-13/News/20130703_America_ONE_Sports - will this mean no RPI TV streaming next weekend?

From what I understand, it'll all be through America One. It will still be the "same" RPI TV multi-cam production that you're used to, and it's possible the quality of the A1 stream could be improved (we were able to stream in near-HD for the ECAC Championship last year).

It's not all doom and gloom though: RPI TV is streaming women's hockey this weekend, but not at the usual place!

That is all doom and gloom. Of course the EZ$$ would force people to pay up for the *** for a ****poor stream. No wonder people never go to the playoffs.

People don't go to the playoffs because the webstream sucks?

Wouldnt this actually make people want to go more????

Considering you'd also have to pay up the *** at the gate, not really. Not to mention, I don't feel like dealing with a bunch of ivy league scumbags threatening to sue us.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

What, the RMS line? Or were you told there'd be no math? :D

I should just ignore this, but I won't. Usually names of hockey lines are puns and/or words that go with "line". To me, RMS is most often followed by the word "error". There are others. The phrase "RMS regression line" makes sense, but I wouldn't want to use the word "regression" which sounds negative. I think that one can speak of "RMS line current" or "RMS line voltage", but they did tell me there would be no electical engineering. ;)

RMS could also be a line of British ships (Royal Mail Ships)...

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

And they wouldn't need brawn, because they won't stay in one place long enough to get hit :D

I'm not sure our defensemen could ever catch up to jump into the play. But as Ralph pointed out earlier-we might want to see at least one forward with a bit more size on the line. Although we have had some smaller lines in the past that were very successful-the game at the NCAA level has changed and the boys have gotten bigger without any loss of speed. Rogic certainly seems big enough-Schroeder perhaps could use a few pounds. Melanson when last i saw him needed 20 pounds in the upper body but that was a year ago.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Do people really think that Schroeder, Rogic, and Fulton could be a line without someone with some brawn on the line? Even St. Louis and Perrin had Ruid.

I dunno about anyone else, but I'd keep the Rogic - Fulton - Miller line together. They are absolutely all over the other team, every shift. Someone else posted that Fulton plays like he's a foot taller than he is...absolutely true and the same could be said for Miller. Hockey is a funny game - I love having some brawn out there too, but speed kills and its entirely a game of time and space. You don't necessarily have to blow up some guy on the other team, but you do need to collapse his space and force him into making a play that he doesn't otherwise want to make. These guys do that by constantly pressuring the puck.

Maybe I'll say a little differently - at the beginning of the year I thought we struggled in breaking out of our zone and with pressuring teams in their end and thru the neutral zone. Once the other team gets to the red line, you've lost, because they can now play it deep which turns your D around and gives the opposition the ability to use their speed against us. Neither of these things are happening now. The coaching staff and team have a couple of very well designed plays to break out by creating space and lanes (which I could probably describe ad nauseam, but really elegant as there are many options with each puck movement). That breaks the forecheck pressure by the other team and gets the puck up ice leaving the forechecker behind the play and thus creating odd man situations in our favor. Further, our forecheck pressure in the offensive zone has been excellent, forcing plays in the defensive zone that the other team frequently doesn't want to make. Layer on top of that that we are standing the other team up at both their blue line as well as before the red line, and we have been boxing them in - they cant get it deep. I was a bit apprehensive during the SLU game because they were so fast and during the 1st period we weren't standing them up at the red line and therefore they were getting the puck deep and stretching the distance between our D who needed to back up and turn and our forwards coming back on the play, thereby creating the space that allows them to control the puck and create scoring opportunities.

As much as anyone, I hate trapping hockey...but with speed, being aggressive, and covering lanes you don't need to trap. This is exactly what Union did to teams. They got all over them and smothered them so they couldn't move. They scored first ALWAYS. We are doing that now and its great to see. I agree that would be great to see Schroeder and Melanson together, and we'll have another line like this one.

Does this mean that we will have to pay for the streaming? And if so, does anyone know what price America One is charging?

For men, it's $9/game for first round and quarterfinals (this weekend and next), $9.95/game for the tournament at Atlantic City.

I don't exactly consider paying $12/game for the quarterfinal games "paying up the ***" considering all but four games at the HFH this year were $12/seat (the "premium" games of Union, Cornell, Dartmouth, and Clarkson were each $15).

Also, an all-session pass for the games in Atlantic City can be had for as little as $42 - that's $10.50/game if you go to all 4 games. Yup, certainly paying up the ***.

I don't see college hockey on the Time Warner schedule. Then again, they only show the statewide flagship schedule, and given the NYSPHSAA basketball tournament is happening during quarterfinals week, that takes precedence. There's also no question submission form.

Thought they were lower? Fair enough. If it's the same price as regular season, so be it.

Tickets for the majority of Rensselaer men's hockey games are $12 for adults and $9 for children and seniors.

The exceptions are the four premium-priced games, which cost $15 for adults and $11 for children & seniors. The games with premium pricing are those against Union on November 2 (9th Annual Black Friday), Cornell on January 19, Dartmouth on February 2 (36th Annual Big Red Freakout!), and Clarkson on March 1

http://rpiathletics.com/news/2013/3/4/MHOCK_0304131237.aspx?path=hockey

Tickets for that series are available beginning at noon on March 5. Tickets are $12.00 for adults, $8.00 for non-RPI students and children, and $6.00 for RPI students. More information is available by calling the Field House box office at 518-276-6262.

Congrats to RPI TV on being chosen to provide the feed for ESPN3!

According to the ECAC web site, the Atlantic City games are going to be televised on Fox College sports network. Directtv channel 608. Has that changed?
