RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

I'd be SHOCKED if we got to Part VI. I think we only did it two years ago.
I'll bet you a beer that we make it. We are 1/3 through this one and there have been no games during that time. This thread will close in no time once our trip to AC is secure.

We will beat Brown for a few very good reasons. First, we are the better team without question. Second, we outplayed them twice this year already and I just don't think these two games will be remotely as close as those. Third, they are coming in here after playing "sloppy hockey" according to their fans against a bad Clarkson team (especially of late). It will be a rude awakening. And lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the upset of 3 years ago is still fresh enough that there is no way the engineers don't some out spitting nails on Friday.

Call me overconfident if you like but I see two one sided wins followed by a deluge of posts and a part VI thread.

I'll take that bet. And I won't even post less to try to make it happen.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

It's on...! Of course if I win I may buy you a beer anyhow. I can't make it to the field house this week as I have a tournament in Lake Placid to go to (where I'll get to see the DIII NC). I floated the idea of a run down to Troy on Friday or Saturday but my wife wasn't too keen on it. I'm going to try like hell to get to AC though - even if it is only for Saturday's game.

And with that we are one post closer to an ice cold beer (but not ice cold in the way that lousy beers need to make mountain climbing commercials about).

There is. All of those who are retired are probably in their 60s. They attended RPI or are locals who became fans when RPI hockey was just about the only thing to do in Troy for entertainment (except ehf?).

Well, I would be the latter since the only college that I attended in Troy was HVCC. During that time, I used to go to RPI Hockey games being the "only game in town". I enjoyed them so much that I became a season ticket holder during my senior year and have been one ever since. And I'm not quite 60 (not until next year, anyway!).

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

I'd never thought about our demographics here, but we seem to have two distinct groups - our 'retirement' community, and those who are late-twenties and younger (we'll call them the 'Appert era'). That's not to say we don't have the occasional middle-aged posters, but it is interesting to see how these two very different groups jive so well together.

Another post towards your bet, jm ;)

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

A retirement cohort and another in their 20's? Leave it to me to be 'odd man out' again at 57... ;)
I'm an RPI grad and was raised in Troy. My first game was a 10-0 thrashing of UNH in '63/'64. West Grandstand, up high, shading the north side... the aroma of popcorn was really strong.
I also remember when the Ice Capades would come to 'the RPI Field House.' Somehow my Mother and sisters preferred the ice shows.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

I fall into the "Appert era" category as an RPI senior...my current excuse for posting so often is a combination of a 12-credit semester and Spring Break.

Saints#1, you are more than welcome to join in the fun and craziness of our threads-the more the merrier!

I think I had something hockey-related to say when I came in here, but after three pages of catching up I've forgotten. Carry on.

Not going to admit how old I am but most here know already-but will say I think tuition was about $105 per credit hour in my last year at RPI (1966) and that was one of the most expensive rates in the nation. We do seem to have a heck of a mix posting here-old timers who are able to give a bit of historical perspective to some of the threads and a much younger and vibrant group of statistically and computer savvy posters. I do not follow threads of other teams but i must say it is a rare day when I log in here and do not find something entertaining or educational. Just the fact that we have a pretty large group of old f@rtz who still show so much interest in the program says quite a bit about the quality of not only the hockey but the school in general. Now lets go out this weekend and lock up a seed in AC quickly. Jenny and I have plans for Sunday(our annual St Patrick's Day festival of corned beef and cabbage and a considerable consumption of adult beverages) and do not want to have to cancel them for a game three. Go Red!!!!

Ralph Baer, DrDemento, FlagDUDE08 ... Unfortunately, I have a long ways to go before I reach retirement age. I'll probably wind up with tons free time on my hands and posting on here all the time anyways, so it's all good :D

A good many of us wish FDude was retired and stopped posting.....

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

As for those who hate the fact that I post, almost to the point where they'd rather root for that team up in Potsdam, I give you the following recommendation:

1. Select FlagDUDE08 on the left side.
2. Select View Profile
3. Select Add to Ignore List on the left side
4. Select Yes

That wasn't that hard, was it?

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

:) I remembered what it was, and it had nothing to do with hockey. Anyone have any suggestions of things that are can't-miss in Lake Placid?
Considering that only time that I was there was for a month in the summer of either 1960 or 1961, I think that my knowledge is outdated, and what a 12 or 13 year old boy liked, you probably wouldn't like anyway. :) I do remmeber that I enjoyed it. My bother, a cousin, and I were visiting a grandaunt who spent her summers there at the time.
