RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

WaP has a tweet stating that Schroeder's application for a medical redshirt has been approved.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

:) I remembered what it was, and it had nothing to do with hockey. Anyone have any suggestions of things that are can't-miss in Lake Placid?

If it is still there-the Charcoal Pit on the way north and west out of town was a can't miss. Incredible food and drink. Also from way back (pre Jenny) I knew a hot blonde nurse up there named Gia who doubled as a swim suit model-now that was something that was definitely can't miss!! (will have to make sure the wife does not see this post or i am a dead man);)

In the words of Emily Dickinson, "Hope is the thing with feathers that purchases in the soul."

Emily Dickinson also wrote "I heard a fly buzz when I died." Not sure how either quote is germane.

Now, Angie Dickinson, on the other hand....:)

I came up with a weekend that puts RPI at #11 in the PWR. (The WaP picks put RPI at #13) All picks assume sweeps.

Canisius over chAir Force
Holy Cross over Mercyhurst
RIT over Niagara
Connecticut over Robert Morris
Michigan State over Miami
Bowling Green over Notre Dame
Ferris State over Ohio State
Quinnipiac over Cornell
Rensselaer over Brown
Dartmouth over Union
Yale over St. Lawrence
Vermont over Boston College
Boston University over Merrislack
New Hampshire over Providence
Colorado College over Denver
Minnesota State over Nebraska-Omaha
Minnesota over Bemidji State
Michigan Tech over North Dakota
Minnesota-Duluth over Wisconsin

Games that don't matter as much:
St. Cloud State over Alaska-Anchorage
Massachusetts-Lowell over Maine
Michigan over Western Michigan

This might be an instance of competing goals. It is not always ideal to move as high as possible on a given weekend -- instead, it might be better to remain a little lower but have a stronger buffer against the teams below you. In my view, this weekend is about shoring up our current position, while Atlantic City (if we make it) would afford us an opportunity to really jump up the rankings.

True, and another thing is to try to assure that winners of other league tournaments aren't teams that would not have made it anyway. Multiple such winners would be even worse.

When we made it in 2011, with exception of Atlantic Hockey, everyone who won their league championship was already in at-large.

If you are looking for food it is hard to say as it seems every year I go up there most places have changed hands. Except the Noonmark diner in Keene Valley on the way into the village. They have excellent pancakes if you ask me.

If you are looking for stuff to do while there you have a lot of options. Something's I would recommend are:

1) Bobsled ride
2) Go to the top of the ski jump
3) depending on amount of snow toboggan run on Mirror lake
4) again depending on snow you can rent snow shoes and they're are a lot of nice trails to use them on.
5) if you're a skier/snowboarder, of course, you have to do Whiteface. If you are in luck they will have enough snow and you can do The Slides Awesome back country trails

These are just a few things. I suggest you go to the travel center in town and they have plenty of information and will be glad to answer any questions you may have.

Enjoy it I love it up there any time of the year.

I had seen that mentioned but I thought he might come back just for old time's sake for us.;)

No such luck. From the game notes for this weekend http://rpiathletics.com/news/2013/3/14/MHOCK_0314130210.aspx?path=hockey :

FRIDAY'S OFFICIALS: The referees on Friday night will be Chris Ciamaga and Robert St. Lawrence ... The linemen are Michael Emanatian and Dan Taggert.

SATURDAY'S OFFICIALS: Mike Baker and Scott Whittemore are the referees and Michael Emanatian and Dan Taggert are the linesmen.

This is exactly our approach. Our cheering section is also a byproduct of a two-dimensional look at the Engineers' place in the Pairwise, which on the whole is more three-dimensional. If a comparison flips between two other teams, it can potentially benefit a third party. We don't have the time to analyze 350+ comparisons, so we just examine the 30+ that involve the Tute.

Also, we don't really have the time to do a lot of heavy lifting with the PWR calculator.

Times Union said:
A less-than-stellar freshman season convinced Bailen to return to the USHL, where he ultimately set the Indiana Ice record for games played and points by a defenseman.

That isn't true. He left BGSU because the program was supposed to fold (which didn't happen of course). BGSU posters here said that he played well there and were disappointed that he was leaving.

Ah, you engineers.

We liberal-arts Brown grads know the quote makes sense the way Emily wrote it:

"Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul."

BAM! :D
