I'm perfectly fine with math. I (along with DrD) post it as a joke, because there are some posters on this forum that do not take kindly to math.

I knew that, I guess I have a [ahem] dry sense of humor (or is that wry? for DrD I guess it would be 'rye')

Who is hokydad battling in this moron fight?

I've always liked to think that he was battling himself. You know, the kind of internal struggle that requires a padded cell...

EDIT: Oops, I was waaaay late to that party....

Even those down in the dumps get a hit now and again. ;) But in all seriousness, jm, give it a try. Put someone on the ignore list and see what happens to their posts. It will give you an option to not only read that specific post, but also to remove them from the ignore list.
Thanks. No longer am I ignorant about ignoring!

As most people know, Ken Schott interviewed Coach Appert as one of the guests on his podcast today. A link to the broadcast can be found here.
He mentioned that this team has the most depth of any since he's been here, and I agree. It was very exciting last Saturday to see that we seemed to be able to keep rolling out lines and have great players on the ice constantly, rather than tiring out a smaller number of skaters with the bulk of the ice time.

I haven't forgotten about the Poly hockey preview, most likely I'll have it done tomorrow.

Posted this in Hockey East thread:

To put a little gambling flavor into the possibility of a 12th team to HE and who it could be I have come up with the following odds.

RPI 3/1 - Seems that they are interested this time. Alot of rumors and where there is this much smoke, there is usually a little fire.

Quinnipiac 4/1 - Upgraded facilities and New England base put them right in the mix.

UConn - 6/1 - Probably the choice for many in New England but arena and Title IX could be too large of an obstacle to make the relationship work.

Syracuse 15/1 - Gotta have a team first.

Stay at 11 teams 8/1 - Worked for the CCHA and with 11 teams. Would 14 non-league games be too many? Odd team might be left without anyone to play on weekends after the new year.

The field 20/1 - Stranger things have happened, especially in the last 4 months.

John.....the other option would be to drop a team from Hockey East to 10!!

in one of the best movies ever made.

The question was, what will be the spread between Union's regular season finish, and RPI's, and your answer was "anywhere from 7 to 2." Kind of hard to bet on that. Can you narrow the range a little? Perhaps to one specific number?

[aside to FlagDude: sorry about the math....]

all that matter is one on the way up, other sideways at best, best

spread will be 5 games minimum

Hokeydad... stop trying to predict the entire college hockey season before it even starts, and just enjoy the hockey itself.

Union and RPI will finish in whatever place they end up in. I've seen predictions as high as 2nd all the way down to 9th and 10th. Numbers are nice, but what actually happens on the ice is what matters.

I thought the question I put to you was the separation of places in the standings, but given your mastery of the English language I will take your response to mean as follows and will put down $5 on this concrete statement:

If Union is no more than 4 places in the end of regular-season standings ahead of RPI, then you owe me $5; if RPI is 6 or more places in the end of regular-season standings behind Union, I owe you $5; if RPI is exactly 5 places in the end of regular-season standings behind Union, it is a push.

In other words, if, at the end of the regular season, Union finishes 2nd and RPI finishes 6th, I win; if Union finishes 4th and RPI finishes 10th, you win, etc.

That is in line with your original assertion. Are you now backing off of that assertion, or do you have any actual convictions you stand behind other than that you are smarter than everyone else?

The followup question would be, how committed to this assertion are you? Do you and I have the only $5 bet, or will you take others' bets as well (perhaps up to a total ceiling)?

Actually, I have to re-think this slightly, as I have absolutely no desire to meet you in person given your charming persona on this board. We can figure out the logistics later, I will mail $5 to a designee in Troy or Synecdoche to hold for us; if I win the $10 can go toward drinks for RPI fans and if you win you can do whatever you like with the money. It would be worth the $10 just to have gloating rights.

johnk, I have my Master's from UCONN and I spoke to a prof who is a hockey guy and he told me it is a longshot for the Huskies to upgrade. All colleges are feeling the crunch he said and UCONN is no different. To give scholarships and upgrade facilities would cost millions. You most likely heard the Woden interview on 980. Woden has a built in bias against RPI because he is a Cornell guy and carries water for Stewie and Comm Hagwell (see his firing of Jason Klump). IMO he is the only guy pushing the UCONN angle. Believe me it bothers him that we are getting the attention for HE. Therefore I agree with your assessment that the Q is the most likely choice besides us. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we get the nod. It does not hurt that our great Coach is head of Coaches Assn. SA is plugged in and has the respect of the coaches in HE.

That would be the longest shot of all. You don't really "drop" teams, and nobody that's there now has much of an incentive to want to leave.

Unless their "parent" conference forms a hockey league and demands that all the schools in that conference join.
