The team was a no show. No explanation provided.

Friend brought his son up to watch and skate and basically said staff had no idea why they didn't show and no phone calls were being returned. Very odd. They are also scheduled to be there later in the month.

I imagine we'll be making a weekend trip to Mankato, hosting Ferris St. and you also know there will be a non-leaguer vs Union. SA mentioned on a previous WaP podcast that BU will likely be back on the schedule, probably in Boston. UAH is searching for opponents next season, so I wouldnt be surprised to see them come to RPI for a game or two. Penn St. could be another good possibility.

As for possible tournaments, some of the fields have already been announced for next season but ones that havent (that im aware of) are the Maverick Stampede, Denver Cup, Mariucci Classic, Ledyard Bank tourny in Dartmouth and the Catamount Cup. I cant see RPI making another trip back up to Alaska for the Kendall or the Goal Rush since we were just up there a few years ago.

I think a couple other possible opponents could be Army or RIT.

Union is in Catamount Cup so I doubt they are headed there. Also Penn St going to Union for 2. RPI looking to host a game New Years Eve which is a Monday night. We will see.

I wonder if the frustration back in the lockerroom spilled over after the Union game and the coaches didnt wanna risk something happening in front of the public. A simple call would have been nice though to let people know they werent coming.

The coaches may not have wanted to risk the possibility that the program might suffer embarrassment if something happened in front of the public.

But by not showing up, and not even bothering to tell anybody they weren't showing up, they guaranteed that the program suffered embarrassment.

The coaches and players should be ashamed of themselves.

I'm sure there's more to it. SA doesn't conduct himself like that, especially when it comes to the public.

Agreed. Jeesh, ease up on the specualtion. Maybe it was miscommunication and they never intended to go. I can't believe that this team is so disfunctional that the coach is afraid to take them out in public. this is not a group of three-year olds - I mean the team .

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Part IV: We ain't Bailen on this season yet, Go Red!!

All right, I shall quit speculating.

I shall wait for someone to communicate clearly why the team did not show up. I feel that I am on solid ground in stating that somebody owes an explanation and an apology to the fathers who brought their sons to that non-event.

I hope that communication comes soon.

Perhaps they decided to forego the scrimmage for the public skate?

Im sure it was just a little miscommunication someplace. Was this event promoted anyplace else besides on that government website? I didnt know about it until it was brought up here. Perhaps the team cancelled a while ago and that website never removed the ad.

What ever the reason, there needs to be a public explanation. No matter where it was promoted, fathers brought their kids to see this team, and they were no where to be found with no explanation yet.
If this season is a downer, this event could cause area hockey fans to take their allegiance elsewhere. Maybe even up the road to Schenectady.
This is a PR problem that needs to be addressed immediately.
I hope they have a good answer.

As bad as everything seems, I'd rather have my fingernails and toenails pulled out. But that's me. I hope some explination comes out for the sake of the coach and the program.

Isn't that "down the road"? :)

There certainly should be one, but if as suggested it was switched for the other event, and it only appears on the gov't website, it isn't necessarily RPI who is at fault.

I was told by a City of Albany employee that the Mayor's office and Dr. Jackson's office couldn't agree on an appearance fee!:p:D

I also have to agree here. This is a coach who comes out and meets with fans before games, and these kids come out after games and meet those fans who stay for a bit. I cant disagree that there may be something that is going on behind doors that none of us know about, but I think that all understand and that they need to excellent representatives of the Institute away from the rink.

Does SA have a Twitter account?
