If you think he's serious, then who finishes in 12th?
Good one, I clearly don't know how may teams are in the ECAC. Holy heck, you really got me. Oh, and yes, that's sarcasm so no one needs to burn another post on my behalf.

Why not? Some of us like to run up our post counts! *coughRFAlphcough* :D

:D

It sounds like we will play in the relegation round this year. ;)

Considering what Brown and Colgate have done in similar positions recently, I say BRING. IT. ON! :p Put the kid in net, the BRO in front of the net, and 5 forwards...:p

Ken Schott's College Hockey Video Notebook: http://www.dailygazette.com/videos/2012/jan/19/939/

About four minutes in, it's Appert apologizing for missing the scrimmage on Monday. He says that about 10 guys had flu-like symptoms over the weekend, and we've apparently had 12 guys sick in the last six days. He wasn't aware there were people counting on seeing the team-while it was public knowledge, he didn't realize so many people had heard about it. Coach says he did call to officially cancel that morning, but thinks there was a communication breakdown somewhere and that info didn't get out. They are still planning on having the public skate that was also advertised.

OK.....The Engineers still have a season. Dartmouth Harvard weekend wasn't that bad. They need one guy to step up and bury the puck. Get the red line and dump it! We have all seen them loose the puck between the blues and have to backcheck. Dump it play out of the corners!!
Forget about Union. These kids can beat Union in a one game playoff. Later.

The rest of the ECAC ain't that great. As bad as RPI has been playing there is no one team in the ECAC that they can't beat. It is time for Seth to get his players to come together and play.

I know I am a bedwetter, an old codger, and I am crawling out from under my rock but......at least I don't have a tin cup out

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Part IV: We ain't Bailen on this season yet, Go Red!!

OK, now I get it. When you do it, its sarcasm, when someone else does it he's a betwetter that wants to have the coach fired.

Aww. Someone's feelings were hurt.

If you'd been being sarcastic back then, you would have pointed it out. You didn't, you weren't. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

You know what, you bring up something interesting. You're advocating for the dump and chase, while when I hear people complaining in the stands, they'd like to see the exact opposite. They want to see the team work the puck over the line for us to have control. I know the dump and chase rarely work when I watch the Crunch do it.

What does everyone else think we should do to gain the zone? Aside from the obvious get the puck over the line? ;)

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Part IV: We ain't Bailen on this season yet, Go Red!!

I do find it rather amusing that Beman sees the voluntary donation link at WaP (that I rarely plug, since we don't require much to defray operating costs) as a "tin cup," or that it's some kind of hit against us for having it.

Apologies again for the lack of podcasts in the last month - the computer from which I produce the podcast has been somewhat unreliable recently and the last thing I need is for a blue screen of death to pop up right in the middle of things. Fortunately, its replacement is scheduled to arrive today and I'm hopefuly we will have a podcast next week.

Also, be on the lookout next week for our yearly pipeline feature. :)

Isn't it the case that, if the other team knows what you are going to do and has a counter for it, either you have to adjust to what they are doing by trying something else, or execute so well that their counter is ineffective?

In other words, to quote DrD, if Plan A isn't working wouldn't you also want a Plan B too?

There is nothing wrong in my view to utilize dump and chase for parts of the game depending on the matchups and on the situation. To bolster that view, did we not discuss on this thread that, to break the 1-3-1 trap, a high lofted puck might be effective, sort of like a punt in football that pins the other team back on their five-yard line? Rather than a straightforward "dump and chase", a "loft and chase" gives your players more time to race down ice while also confusing the other team, since they cannot see where the puck is if they are watching our players and they cannot see our players if they are watching the puck?

Given how some of the other teams seem to be defending us, I would not mind a "loft and chase" strategy at all, at least to break up the flow of a game that too often keeps us hemmed in and frustrated.

Great to see you posting my friend. Your illuminative posts have been missed. Cheers.

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Part IV: We ain't Bailen on this season yet, Go Red!!

While I hate to see coaches let go, it is time to examine the record of our current man at the helm. After upgrading salaries, facilities, and overall program expenditures it appears that our investement has lost stock in the world of college hockey. Once again we are in the bottom(currently THE bottom)portion of a league that has less than 1/2 of the teams offering grant -in aids. This should not be happening! Sure there have been a few players that have jumped to pros, but I do not feel that is a viable excuse for our current plight. It certainly hasn't helped the cause, but it happens to programs all over, and they maintain. Why can't we? RPI has opened the checkbook, and eased admissions somewhat, and we win about a third of our games in the past 5 1/2 years. We were better off before spending less and winning more. How many years is the school going to pour money down the drain? Basically I am asking if it is time for a new direction, or is everyone happy setting school loss records?

I'd respond to that, but it's asking questions that have already been answered.

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Part IV: We ain't Bailen on this season yet, Go Red!!

Is there any remake that has been good? ;)
I think some of the movies that require special effects can be better the 2nd time around. The Fly comes to mind. I'm waiting for someone to do a good remake of Moby Dick. The Gregory Peck version was OK but that movie would be better now with modern effects (so long as they tend to the acting too).

I think you are at least a year too soon with this. Many good teams and coaches have off years.
