Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread IV -- It's Looking Like No "I-V" Is Necessary!

Any more questions? :D

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
What happened on "All My JL" yesterday? :D

You have to Rep 20 other people before you can Rep the same person again. You also can't give more than 15 Reps within an 18-hour window. Any more questions? :D

Yes - when I looked, there was only one icon (online or not) instead of 3. I opened a new tab and viola it was there. Thanks though. This little tool should augment my karate chop action nicely.

I was thinking more along the lines of trying to seal the deal with Steven Beyers...

Speaking of Beyers, he was selected by Fargo in the USHL draft.

June 3 Fargo Examiner article about him:

July 25 Article listing Fargo's tryout camp roster --doesn't include Beyers -- though it does mention that there was at least one unidentified player on the ice... My WAG is he wasn't there.

Wasn't there an article or interview that said that he was going to the USHL?

I thought's that what I was talking about...Fargo/USHL??

The linked profile mentions him having a good chance at making the team..but I don't see his name anywhere. It doesn't make sense to me that they drafted him, only to not have him at the tryout camp.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread IV -- It's Looking Like No "I-V" Is Necessary!

Just rec'd this from the Fargo Examiner blogger:

"... Interestingly, he (Beyers) was one of two 2010 Entry Draft picks that did not attend camp. Dajon Mingo was the other. It appears Mingo will stay in the NAHL this season. Not sure what the reason may have been that Beyers did not attend."

Another one of our recruits who doesn't want to leave Ontario...?

"Pounced"?? Whoa there, chief. Chill out. I was reading your thread for other purposes and thought I'd inject a little humor based on a reference to something with which I am familiar. I guess I'll need to refrain from invading your precious thread from now on :p ;)

I'm not going to have to explain the concept of butthurt, am I?

I was referring to you ... unless you think you're somehow exempt?:p

Then you don't understand the concept. That simple.

I pointed out how quiet the South Side is. You got upset.

You tried retaliating (read: butthurt) on perceived issues on the North Side. I didn't get upset. Hell, I laughed.

Who's butthurt, again?

Trust me, if I was remotely interested in the definition of your fifth grade lingo, I'd ask.

Actually you and GLM - on more than one occasion - used desparaging generalities to describe an entire block of the RPI fanbase, which I will always take exception to.

I heard a really good rumor today. Heard that we are looking at Vinny Saponari when he returns from his "sabbatical" in the USHL. Good source not connected to program but highly reliable. I wouldn't throw it out there unless I trusted the guy who told me.

I'm going to go ahead and file this in the hearsay file but if this is true I hope the staff is doing their due diligence. Jack Parker doesn't just give good players the chop for no reason.

Saponari was told by Parker that he was being dismissed for breaking a team drinking rule, and then showing up late to the subsequent team bike ride, which was punishment for breaking the team rules.

...

“Over a period of time, there have been cumulative instances in which ... Vinny Saponari [has] displayed conduct unbecoming of a Boston University hockey player,” Parker said in the press release.

...

[On May 3rd], The Daily Free Press reported that ... Vinny Saponari ... would receive [a] suspension for [his] involvement in a drinking incident less than 48 hours before a Hockey East playoff game against the University of Maine.

When asked about the drinking incident, Saponari declined to comment further on the matter, but did confirm that he had been out drinking on a night that he was not allowed to be.

“There was a drinking rule that was broken earlier during the year, and then I was late to a bike ride, and that was pretty much it really,” Saponari said.

The move comes after a disappointing 18-17-3 season for the Terriers. Parker often cited the team’s poor focus and drive as reasons for the unsatisfactory year.

“Yeah, definitely,” Saponari said when asked if he felt he’d been made an example of. “I guess what better example to your team that you’re serious than to kick off a player who’s played a lot of games.

“To me, do I think it’s justified? No. I love this team, and I wasn’t ready to leave. I made a mistake or two since I’ve been here, but I didn’t feel like I was a bad thing for the team, or any kind of bad influence. To me, it’s unjust, to [Parker], maybe not.”

Recently, a video of Saponari and teammate Corey Trivino, who was suspended from the squad for an undisclosed number of games to open the 2010-11 season, began circulating on the Internet. The video, titled, “Party like a puckstar,” features Trivino and Saponari remaking the Shop Boyz’ “Party Like a Rock Star,” but with re-written, inappropriate lyrics.

...

“We talked about me being more responsible as a leader and being more committed to the team,” Saponari said. “I agreed that I needed to be and wanted to be, and that was about the gist of it.”

Saponari is still unsure about his hockey future, but said he was considering redshirting through next season and playing at another university.

Definitely sounds like a "tread with caution" case, but it could also be very similar to Bobby Goepfert's re-emergence at St. Cloud State - wiser for his troubles in Hockey East.

Dude, I thought you were talking about JL....

I was on the exact same wavelength, I was getting ready to grab the Y&R clip too. Oh well.

I wouldn't be surprised if we were not going to go for him, given he was dismissed because he rack disciprine.
