Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread IV -- It's Looking Like No "I-V" Is Necessary!

I know it isn't Monty's job to scout or think about RPI but I know he will be on the look out and stay connected to Seth and will pass along scouting information. Just because he left doesn't mean he isn't still interested in the success of this program-so although it isn't his job- I believe he will always be on the look out for Seth and this program-JMO.

I realize there's a difference between midget and junior, but the best way to answer this is:

Is Shawn Kurulak still passing along scouting information to Seth?

The question in my mind is whether his first college allegience is to SA and RPI or to Maine.

Only time will tell I suppose. While Maine is his alma mater, Monty credits Seth for convincing him to go to DBQ, as well as giving him the freedom and responsibility to develop as a coach.

I personally don't have any trouble thinking they'll discuss players in the future.

FWIW -- I have had several people tell me that Seth and Monty are very close friends...away from the rink as well as at it. I don't have any trouble thinking they will discuss players in the future.

I wonder if this means we will try to get a NC weekend with Wisconsin in the future, given the proximity...

With all due respect that analogy isn't even logical.

Wasn't he offered a position at Maine while at RPI and declined?

I think coaching recruited players of RPI, while they are talented, shows of the relationship to come. JMO

I don't recall that.

Why not? He is a former assistant coach under Appert who left to pursue another coaching job at a younger play level. Not to mention, this is about the time when high school hockey players would be recruited. Even if the coaches can't pursue the player right away (especially midget-U16), why couldn't a suggestion be made to follow a specific player's juniors progress, or to recommend the players to Monty's team in Dubuque when they become of the appropriate age?

FWIW, Kurulak is now the hockey director for Hyland Hills Hockey Association. I dont believe he's coaching in the Thunderbirds organization anymore.

Ah, very good to hear. Unfortunately I am not as adept to stalking the careers of those that have graced or are looking to grace RPI with their presence, unlike some posters I see on this thread. ;)

JH my post was meant to be somewhat tounue in cheek in response to you also. See reference to Ken Dryden being a sieve. At least I didn't call you a commie:D. The Red Army team was good but I thought they feasted off eastern european teams that were in the process of building their programs. I think Herb knew this when he said in that speech and I am quoting "Their time is done". Herb was by and far the greatest mind in USA hockey even to this day. JH, you may be old enough to remember that he played the anti-trap for the Olympic ice surface. Run and gun w Mark Johnson, Broten, et al. Plus the Red Army team would seem to always catch Team Canada in the summers when they were either drunk or out of shape (see Espo) or both. No offense was meant and none was taken by our exchange, just trying to spice up the chat during the dog days of summer. Plus, I am off my medication. I hope this finds you well.
I'd give you positive rep for this response but I've never done it before and don't have the time to figure out how right now. It's all good though.

I hear you on the out of shape and beer argument but I'll bet there was plenty of Vodka being consumed on the Russian side so some of that evens out.

It isn't difficult. In the bottom of the section where the person's handle appears, there are three symbols. The middle one is a scale although it may not look like it. Click on it. It should then me obvious what to do.

In the lower left corner of the post, there are three icons. Click the middle one. Select approve for pos rep, or not approve for neg rep. Type a private message, if you wish, and select "Add to Reputation". I am unfamiliar with the exact rules regarding how often you can give rep.

EDIT: And of course, Ralph beat me.

You have to Rep 20 other people before you can Rep the same person again. You also can't give more than 15 Reps within an 18-hour window. Any more questions? :D
