oops. sorry to offend RC. I guess I've been watching too much Glenn Beck. Trying to be provocative and well it didn't work. Can u get a mulligan on this board? peace.

Mulligans are $5. Gimmes are $20 but there's no guarantee you'll reach the hole with one. :D

What ever happened to the Red Army that was started a couple years ago? I still see shirts at games but not as many as before. I am not trying to start issues with WS and RC just asking a question.

The Red Army is what killed the thunder of Section 33. My junior year, they did not allow students to get their season tickets in section 33 because of the Red Army.

I liked the Red Army idea but the execution of it seemed to be off. It seemed like the students were divided into two groups because of it. Maybe a Apperts Army group get started. Requirement is to wear your hair slicked back for all games. Have Seths favorite hair product line sponsor the group...someone send this along to the new promotions and marketing person. :D

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread IV -- It's Looking Like No "I-V" Is Necessary!

For the record, the only part of the Red Army concept that I came up with was the name, and it wasn't really volunteered by me as much as it was stolen from me, but whatever.

The biggest problem with the execution of the Red Army was that instead of leading the student section the way they probably should have, they decided to do their own thing and ignore what other students were doing, like they were some exclusive club. Homies don't roll like that.

Dr Baer I don't know if it is too early to have a thread name suggestion but here goes ...

Do you expect us to quack at the beginning of the game?

I'd say plan it when Alex Dell is reffing. Bombay the character was a lawyer, after all.

I usually hibernate in the summer, but feel I must jump in here. After 17 seasons, myself and our seats are moving to the south side this upcomming season. We used to love sitting in Section(You guessed it, 17)

Over the past few seasons for big games(Union, Clarkson, Cornell), It felt like I was in Lynah, Achilles, or Cheel, surrounded by visiting fans, behind us, infront of us, across the aisle, etc. Shouldn't have to feel the breeze from a Cornell students newspaper when RPI is being introduced. I dont pay $140.00 for that aggravation. I also don't need to hear how yesterdays physics lab was, and my favorite, "Why did they pull the goalie?"

Ive noticed many vocal fans from Section 17 move to the South Side and they cheered in 17, and I see them cheer in their new digs.

I also recall during last years' playoff series vs. Brown, certain RPI "fans" seemed much more intrigued by an I-Phone, texting, and basically not watching at all for long periods of play. Wont mention names but I can put 1 and 1 together on who it was and I don't have an engineering degree.

I'm still fixated on Doc Baer's tidbits about the strippers at HFH. I was surprised because I picture the good doctor as sorta like an Obi Wan Kenobi character (the Alec Guiness OWK not the crappy Ewan McGregor one) listening to RPI games on WRPI (I am so hoping this devolves into a discussion on the amount of gigobytes it takes to stream the games:D I enjoy those discussions ) saying "feel the puck Chase, feel the puck". I should starting taking my meds again.

As RC has correctly stated, its not Monty's job - nor will he have any time - to think about RPI. I do think that his close relationship with Seth can and will help us assess USHL players that we may be scouting... It is certainly possible the Monty will hear about or see a kid who may not be committed and could pass that info on to RPI.

No doubt Vines and Graham have a good feel for the kids in Western Canada...I guess its the northeastern part of the continent - that Monty clearly mastered - that will need addressing. Recruiting is every bit as much about building relationships with jr./prep coaches as is it is about ID'ing talent. That is where I think RPI will have to rebuild a bit.
Its rumored tha SA just returnes from a week long visit to Ontario I'm sure he's on top of it !

The Red Army in case you missed it was only the best hockey team in the world for oh I don't know... about 25 years running. Don't tell Glenn Beck that though because he might try to ban hockey as it is obviously a game loved by communists around the world. I mean really all he would need to do is check out all of the socialists that play the game well (Canada, Finland, Sweden) and it would be so obvious that he wouldn't even need a chalk board to explain the danger it presents to truth, justice and the American way. Then of course his campaign to purge unamerican hockey lovers would start and everyone posting on this board would have to either denounce their citizenship or buy overpriced gold coins.

Geez... what are you trying to start?

I explained myself and did a mea culpa. Relax. Plus, the Red Army team was not the best team for 25 years running... the Montreal Canadiens were...even though they had that sieve Ken Dryden in goal. JH, I won't respond to your entire political diatribe but how's that Obama thing working out for you. Geez yourself, only a liberal would say the Russians would have the best hockey team. Today is 30 July 2010. There are 70 days (10 weeks) until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 8 October for the start of next season.

Having the visiting fans moved over into the 20s doesn't help that feeling. That's the major downside of them having liquidated Section 1. Of course, giving the road fans most of the obstructed view seats is a nice touch, but still, moving them closer to the students was a poorly constructed idea.

My post was an light hearted dig on Glenn Beck's semi-sane ramblings - it wasn't political. Check it again.

Sorry but the Canadians were no where near the team that the Red Army was. You are just wrong on that one. And Herb Brooks essentially said as much when he was building the 80 team. Even his pep talk... "if we played these guys 10 times they might win 9.... but not tonight! Tonight you are the greatest hockey team in the world". The inference there is that the other 9 times someone else was.
