Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread IV -- It's Looking Like No "I-V" Is Necessary!

The south side is the side you sit on if you want to listen to everything the north side is saying and don't want to take part in it. Having gotten the stink eye on the south side by regulars (!!!) for doing all the normal routines, it's a fun vacuum over there. This isn't a slight on you WS, it's a slight on everyone else over there that could use a little vodka in their prune juice.

Once again, GLM boils everything down perfectly in just three sentences.

Yeah, running down your own team's fanbase is pure perfection. If we're all really lucky maybe RC will take it the next level and he'll can mow down a few Southies in the parking lot to thin the crowd to suit his tastes.

Look, I get it. You and GLM got scolded at for standing up and it scarred you. I understand - I get yelled at all the time. Heck, more than once I've gotten yelled at for standing up and stretching my legs between periods, usually when some old lady wants to watch the Jr. Houstonettes figure skating club...and yet somehow I've managed to continue getting out of bed in the morning.

The fact remains that there are a lot of loyal, passionate fans on "that side" -- regardless of whether or not they arrive shirtless and in face paint. :p If you're still having trouble figuring out why the family side isn't quite as rowdy as the student side, then I can't help you.

I've got no quarrel with WS. Truth is I will have his back in 90% of arguments. But if you mess with the bull, you get the horns. :p

I love you too.. I guess I've had enough coffee. :D

At least they finally moved over to that side... it was pathetic when they were in section 33 trying to claim that hockey wasn't the most important event there.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread IV -- It's Looking Like No "I-V" Is Necessary!

since I dared to speak ill of RIT's performance at the Frozen Four.

 Oh no! You spoke ill of the Tigers' "performance" against Wisconsin? Well, that just about tears it! I'm not eavesdropping on this thread anymore! :D :D :p
But seriously... I must have missed your "ill-speaking", or maybe didn't really notice since that so-called performance wasn't above criticism, certainly. Who got their panties in a bunch about that?

I'm not one much for the in-fighting, but I've sat on both sides of the building numerous times and the south side is the quiet side. It's also the family side. WS I'm sure you and your row do fine to hold up your end of the fan bargain, but the other 99% of the fans on that side don't do it. I'd suggest putting buzzers in their seats to liven them up, but giving everyone heart attacks doesn't go over well either.

I too have also sat on both sides, and for the most part I have have been sitting in section 10 the last two years.
The fans there are very quiet, but they know a lot about what they are watching.
Listening to their conversations, they know all the players and their abilities.
They could use some education on the power play, when all they want is a shot no matter who might be in the shooting lane.
They are older, and they show up all the time. I don't think that they would be loud even if the team were to win every game. They are just not the type of people who come out of their seats to yell and scream.
It seems that they have all been coming for many years and while it might not seem that they are supportive of the team, somebody is paying for those tickets. Year after year.

Basically everyone. And the fact that an RIT fan is quick to pounce at the mere mention of the school pretty much backs up my beliefs.

They may want a shot, but honestly, what group of fans for any specific team doesn't? I remember when I was driving out to Buffalo for my first in-person Sabres game they were actually talking about this on WGR. They were mentioning how the players may have been looking for a backdoor pass, and that the fans should just scream "Backdoor Pass" instead of "Shoot it".

You're absolutely right that supporting the team year after year is a good thing. I'd rather boring fans than no fans. With no fans, no hockey team.

What ever happened to the Red Army that was started a couple years ago? I still see shirts at games but not as many as before. I am not trying to start issues with WS and RC just asking a question.

I always thought the red army thing was lame. Naming a fan section after a brutal army that killed innocent men, women and children and was the arm of a totalitarian regime could only be an idea of liberal academia.

I always thought the Red Army was a good thing... Though I admit I never thought their relationship with Joe Stalin would cause a problem... :p
