Nothing for nothing but it is a farce what the Chowder Cup has become. It used to be limited to 32 teams, all by invite. Now they have 2 levels and over 100 teams. They have ruined this and made it all about the money, exactly like they did with HNIB. The only legit one left is the Beantown.

They have a Junior A division and they also have a B division, which is after the top 60+/- teams. Maybe its just for fun but scoring a few points vs kids in high school in the B division would not seem to be accomplishing much. Playing teams with runnng time and winning 12-0 and 9-1 seems almost counter productive to getting ready for college.

Caps blogger liked Cullen:

"Patrick Cullen buzzes. He's everywhere, but in a controlled manner. He digs the puck out, follows the pass, & crashes the net. Could be valuable to the Chocolate & White."

http://rockthered.net/

I'd certainly be happy to see Cullen join the list of former Engineers who have played for Hershey. I know of at least four: Neil Little, Bruce Coles, Patrick Rochon, and Brian Pothier (on a rehabilitation assignment).

However, I will be more than happy to wait a couple more years for his arrival in Chocolatetown. If he spends those two years showing RPI's opponents the skills that impressed the Capitals' brass, so much the better. ;)

Add Chris Aldous for one game http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/alumni.php?tmi=7600.

RB, you are amazing-I did not think anyone remembered that. I had followed Hershey as the farm club for the Flyers for a few years and was just about to post that Chris Aldous played at least one game there. Glad you caught that.:D

Two goals, no penalty minutes? Are you sure we got the right guy? ;)

Perhaps we move him up to forward -that that is what I would call a power forward!!

I didn't remember it. I just knew that I could get that listing of RPI alums on hockeydb and then search through it for Hershey.

I suspect that it would only work on a power play when we could position him in front of the net.

He's big enough to block out the sun. It would be great to have him in front of opposition goal tenders. :D

Can you just picture a goalie trying to find a way to see the puck coming by looking around the big guy?;)

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread IV -- It's Looking Like No "I-V" Is Necessary!

Am I mistaken or is this some sort of hybrid: it plays like a penalty shot until after the score, where there are players from the opposing team seem to have followed him in for a possible rebound? No real penalty shots has guys on the ice like that...please refer back everyone and tell me I'm not crazy.

I'm guessing they have a backchecker start from the far blueline just to make sure guys go vertically up the ice. Not really sure why they want to ensure that, but I think it must be it.

Today is 24 July 2010. There are 76 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 8 October for the start of next season.

Of course, our forwards would have to get the puck by him also.

They would have to shoot about ankle high-that part of him is probably normal human sized;)

Go in DCC. Or go in CII and use various accesses to get to DCC. Go to first floor (WRPI base). Take tunnel to JEC. Go up 2 floors. Watch from window. Eureka!
Or, if you're ECSE, go to Flip Flop Lounge on 6th floor. Eureka!

Why stop at the window? The JEC is flush against the south side of the field. Once you are in the JEC, you are inside the ticket booths and you can go anywhere you want.

Typically they will also have the mall co- er, public safety sitting at the doorways.

Neat little article from TU blog section about ill fated minor league hockey team called the Troy Slapshots that played in HFH. Brief mention of Troy's own Jack Bestle.
http://blog.timesunion.com/chuckmiller/the-troy-slapshots-1986-1986/2640/

Minor correction: The correct spelling of his name is Jak Bestle. Calling him a former RPI starter is bit of a stretch, but he did play in a fair number of games in his junior and senior seasons. He was a really hard-working kid that grew up around RPI hockey and made the most of the skills that he had.

Thanks for the correction. Without being a know it all, I did know that because my wife named my youngest son Jak and when she did I thought of Jak Bestle.

At last I agree w/Hokydad.I know a coach that takes a team there....He refers to it as a GongShow !
