Students get charged for playoff football games? (That wasn't an issue when I was at RPI. :D )

Yes, the NCAA sets the prices for playoff football games and also enforces a bunch of rules that aren't normally enforced regarding admission, noisemaking, etc.

As for the training room, I believe the new room (it's quite impressive, I walked through after ECAV opened) is only available to the members of the sports teams. So not a way for most students to watch the games for free. Although much of the crowd at football games isn't made up of students to begin with, rather family and locals.

Caps blogger liked Cullen:

"Patrick Cullen buzzes. He's everywhere, but in a controlled manner. He digs the puck out, follows the pass, & crashes the net. Could be valuable to the Chocolate & White."

Not to speak for RVD but I received a piece of information about this earlier in the day and was glad to see his reporting after I put up my post. I was hesitant to run with it even though my source was good. I guess this is a double confirm. Now hopefully we can get back to more important stuff like how many gigobytes it takes to stream an RPI hockey game :) That stuff keeps me coming back to this board again and again :D

That's funny, they think he's already Caps property.

Hershey is losing a bunch of forwards...including Bourque who is KHL-bound...maybe they'll throw an offer Cullen?? :D :D I was glad to see that he seems to have held his own, at least to this blogger. I look forward to a bounce back year for him in Troy.

Interest is the first step to purchase. OK, I made that up, but still, you have to figure he must be looking. Yes, yes, it's where he grew up, I know that, but maybe when he's done with RPI, he'll try out for their farm teams, and use this development experience as a bit of a boost.

Here's some pure speculation, from connecting some dots:

Last summer, while getting my skates sharpened at the Ashburn Ice House in Ashburn, VA (about 30 miles west of DC), I saw a guy with a red RPI hockey bag (with Puckman on it) and a tall guy with a Brown hockey bag (#33 on it) and goalie equipment. They were with some other guys with equipment, and I had the impression they were about to get some ice time. When I got home, I did some Google research. #33 was Mike Clemente of nearby Great Falls. I'm pretty sure the RPI guy was Pat Cullen.

Further research uncovered that the owner/president of the Ashburn Ice House is Brian Cullen. See this link, end of 5th paragraph:
http://littlecaps.com/page.php?page_id=1662

According to the following RPI web page, Pat is the son of Brian and Tracey Cullen:
http://www.rpiathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=2110

The Caps practiced at the Ashburn Ice House prior to moving to their new facility in Arlington a few years ago.

So, there likely are some professional connections between the Cullen family and the Caps which could help open some opportunities. I'm glad that Pat has been able to participate at their camp, get some valuable experience, and hopefully earn some options for himself in the future, after he graduates from RPI of course. :)

Disclaimer: I haven't been able to definitively establish that Brian Cullen the Ice House owner and Brian Cullen the father of Pat are the same person.

This is based upon 8 October for the start of next season.

Coach Bruce Boudreau on Patrick Cullen (and others) http://voices.washingtonpost.com/capitalsinsider/boudreau-on-johansson.html
*But first rounders weren't the only players who turned Boudreau's head. He also took notice of local product Patrick Cullen, a forward who led Gonzaga High School to the MSHL championship in 2005 and currently plays for R.P.I.

"He showed me he knows how to play," Boudreau said of Cullen, a camp invitee. "Some of these guys, quite frankly, I don't know, I've never seen them play. So I'm seeing them for the first time, and I'm thinking I want to see this guy further because there's something there that I like."

If Patrick impresses Coach enough to earn himself a regular spot this year, someone recommend to one of the Caps scouts a trip to either Troy, or perhaps either the Princeton game in NJ or the Huntsville weekend. Something that is within regulations, of course.

Also, during the 2009 NHL draft, didn't Coach feel he may have potentially been on the bubble for a 7th round selection?

On Thursday, Power Edge Hockey defeated RIPDP 12-0. Luke Curadi had a goal and an assist. Nick Quinn had an assist. http://stats.proamhockey.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1883

Curadi's line is 1-1-1-2-0.
Quinn's line is 1-0-1-1-0.

I don't care if he plays for Dubuque now... *flashes an annoying flashy goal sign* *does the swim* *shows about 7 other people doing the swim*

It's perfectly legitimate for NHL scouts to scout whomever they want to. I would think, based upon this and the other links that have been posted, that the Caps will keep an eye on him.

Here's to hoping that Cullen plays well in the upcoming season, and that he only suffered from sophomore jinx last year. Let's face it, if we get a couple of forwards to significantly improve in the upcoming season, we could have three liens that could score, and that is rare in the ECAC these days.
