Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

The farm was a stones throw from the Mohawk-used to get off the Northway and take route 9(before there was a Halfmoon exit) and make the first right after crossing over the water and went up that road about 2 miles. IIRC there was a school ot far away where I used to let the dog run free. Loved the area which was in reality so close to Albany and Troy yet felt you were out in the country. Felt that way about Waterford also-used to cross the bridge from North Troy where there was a huge Freihofer's bakery outlet and plant and then make a right turn and follow along the Hudson on River Road to where the old A&P warehouse was-worked on a farm there also. Brings back great memories from the early to mid 1960's.

Yep know where your talking about. Grew up on Hudson River Road. Yeah some people complain it is too far from Albany but I like it up this way.

Why would you want to wish that on the league? Yale would draw quite well, but the other three don't travel well even when theya re winning.

AC was an economic choice for the ECAC; plain and simple. The attendance in Albany ahs been atrocious. RPI will draw anyplace, so if they make it the crowds will be decent. If not, they will be like LP or Albany the first year, and decline from there.

At least in LP (no matter who made it) Cornell fans, RPI Fans, Larries Fans, Clarkson Fans, were there. Might I add in respectable numbers, and the ball busting made the weekend. Nothing worst (or better) than being stuck in the Cottage with with 20 Clarkson fans drinkin shirley temples. burp.......

This is based upon 2 October for the start of next season.

This is not very far from where I live, and yes this area is still farms. It's quite beautiful if not sparse.

Lacrosse may not be Division I but RPI has a proud history and a considerable following in Division III. We did win a national championship back in the old days under Ned Harkness (who also won one in Hockey-becoming one of the rare breed to win NCAA championships coaching 2 different sports). You are going to love it!:)

Actually, RPI shared the lacrosse national championship with UVA in 1952. It was a newspaper vote. Harkness also took the 1948 team to England where they represented the US in the Olympics; lacrosse being a demo sport that year. They tied England in Wembley Stadium and won all of their other games while there.

I am off to a PhD program at Indiana, and unfortunately with the exception of the Alabama Huntsville games, which are still 6 hours away, the closest game to me is going to be 9 hours away. I am from Troy, so I will be back in town at least once during the semester, of course during a home weekend, but I was wondering if anyone else plans to make it down to Huntsville. New Year's Eve, Alabama style!

This past class of freshmen (Class of '13) will be required to live on campus or in approved (Greek) housing for two years. It's all about fostering campus one-ness and school spirit (which is a load of b.s., but that's even more off-topic).

By campus one-ness and school spirit, do you mean money?

The Madmen are planning to make the trip - not sure how many of us yet as we haven't started any actual plans for the trip.

I have been thinking about going, but with my track record, it is like saying that Jacob Laliberte is thinking of going to RPI. :)

I have been thinking about making the trip, but I would also like to possibly attend some of the IIHF games, and a 2.5 hour drive is easier than a 14-hour drive. I'll give some more thought to it, since IIHF will last longer than just a weekend.

Not many better taverns than the Cottage. Great place to eat, drink, talk and see all kinds of people.

If Cornell, Clarkson, RPI are in the tournament in AC, their fans will show up.
If SLU and CCT fans don't want to make the trip to the Jersey Shore; no great loss. :)

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

OK...are you telling me that now I'm going to end up following RPI Lax too? If that's the case, we may have to move to Troy for 4 years. The B.R.O. played attack and ran over people in HS...the Hubster played semi pro box lax and started a league in the NY metro area when Lacrosse was unknown. If you turn this into a lacrosse thread I'll withhold your supply of home made Irish Cream!:p

I admit to having a weakness for the sport -- having played it in H.S. and college.:p Like the B.R.O, I was 6'+ attackman, but I was converted into a goalie in high school when our starter went off the deep end over a girl. :D Ralph's gonna kill us for straying...:-)

Please, don't cut me off from the IC ! :p

I predict the AC experiment will be short-lived and less than successful, but I've been wrong before. If RPI makes it, I suppose I will be forced to begrudgingly make the trip to the Meth capital of the free world. Otherwise, I will be watching on the tube (and I don't say that lightly, having attended every tourney without fail, starting with year 1 in L.P.)
