RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

Why is it off-topic RB? I thought we condensed threads for the off season?

It's not about RPI hockey or anyone whom we know or suspect RPI is interested in. The only connection to RPI is that JM coached for the 'Tute recently. For all that I know, his primary allegiance may now be to Maine.

My guess is that his primary allegiance is to Dubuque.

Ohh, I dunno RB, I think JM and Seth are pretty close. The B.R.O and Quinn didn't end up in Dubuque by accident. I humbly submit that it is more than appropriate for this thread. :p

I agree with this assessment. Plus, could it be possible that Dubuque becomes sort of a "development team" for potential RPI players? I wouldn't be surprised if, within the next few years, at least 1 or 2 players each year come from this Dubuque team. Obviously Quinn and Curadi next year, but how about after that?

Have any of RPI's past coaches consistently scouted a specific team or couple of teams for potential players? Do we see this with any coaches from other schools?

Found this on Rivals about Dolan coming to RPI:

http://www.collegehockey247.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1085254

Defenseman Bo Dolan played high school hockey at Hill-Murray in Minnesota, but after graduating, headed out west to play for the Penticton Vees of the BCHL. Dolan earned an offer to play for RPI starting next season, and chose to commit to the Engineers.

Yes. For example, in the Salfi era we had a lot of players from the Sioux (Lafleur, Caputo, Prpich, Martinelli, Greco, ...).

Lacrosse may not be Division I but RPI has a proud history and a considerable following in Division III. We did win a national championship back in the old days under Ned Harkness (who also won one in Hockey-becoming one of the rare breed to win NCAA championships coaching 2 different sports). You are going to love it!:)

RB and RC are going to facepalm me any minute for digressing so I'll have to get this out quickly...Ned Harkness' nephew is my tree guy...when I told him Luke was going to play hockey at RPI, he gave us one of Ned's old lax sticks (It's broken but historic nonetheless). Of course I will love it Doc! ;)

Only RC gives facepalms and headdesks. :D That's quite interesting actually.

I'll take this a step further...it could work out that RPI reaches the pinnacle...Seth gets the offer to move on to whatever...and Monty is primed to be a head coach at the D-I level ...RPI...thus mentor ship of the highest order and at every level...:D

I wish he had been a good tree guy...then all would be well.

I forgot, RB, you don't give facepalms...you give swim lessons...:p

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

but I was wondering if anyone else plans to make it down to Huntsville. New Year's Eve, Alabama style!

It's only a 7-1/2 hour drive for me. So, it is definitely under consideration. It all depends on whatever travelling I'm performing during the holidays. Like FD08, I'm also looking at attending the World Juniors.

By campus one-ness and school spirit, do you mean money?

Yes.

That is hilarious considering my troubles in passing the swimming test at RPI. :)

babo, you can rest assured that you have never come anywhere near a facepalm, not even once. :)

Facepalms are exclusively reserved for dumb and/or extremely corny commentary. Headdesks are for those who go above and beyond the facepalm criteria.

That's pretty cool that you've got a genuine Harkness lax stick. Lacrosse at RPI is sometimes a forgotten legacy but he left his mark on that program as well. I've often posited that the Institute should consider going to Division I in all sports, with an emphasis on football in the fall, hockey in the winter, and lacrosse in the spring.

Those 3 would be the perfect D-I 'tri-fecta' (sp?)...B.R.O. gave up baseball and Track/Field because you can't hit people (...we are a very violent family) I am starting to think that the stars are beginning to align and we will be at RPI to watch sports much more than originally intended. Am I complaining? Not so much...all healthy addictions. And I hate shopping anyway...:D

I was hopeful this was the case back when the Institute first came out with the blueprints for the new ECAV and im still optimistic that it will eventually happen someday. I always thought the Patriot League would be a nice home for all the other sports teams at RPI if they decided to make the jump up.

That topic came up when the proposition to do away with athletic scholarships for D3 schools playing up was on the table. There was an unsubstantiated rumor that RPI and JHU would join the Patriot League if the proposition was passed. It seemed to the RPI fans around at the time to be the best solution (other than the staus quo) since we thought that joining the D2 league that St Rose is in made little sense academically.

It still seems like the best place to go if we were to leave D3, but I prefer D3 for the other sports.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

Just got the email for Men's Golf Hockey Tourney. August 9th at Shaker Ridge. I am informing the beer cart girl that GLM and RC might be there so they should stock up on more adult beverages :)
