Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

HAHA awesome. Ive never been to AC so I figure why not make a hockey trip out of a gambling weekend. But I do hope RPI is there so I dont have to deal with the crickets and Cornell fans in a half empty rink all weekend.

The trip for Jenny and me is about 50 minutes-we have our tickets already-but will only use them if RPI is there. I fully expect that not only will RPI be there-they will be one of the favorites;). That was one of the fun things about the 90's in Lake Placid-we were always there and we were always competitive. Some years we stayed in what was the Holiday Inn up on the hill-other times at the Hilton-or commuted from our home in the Adirondacks. Those commutes meant some scary driving on ice and snow cover roads through Long Lake, Tupper Lake and Saranac but it was a blast. :)

Sophs are now required to live on campus? If so, does anyone know when that started?
I know that it was not in effect while I still attended the 'tute, but it has been in proposal.
That surprises me. I figured that the 'Tute would eventually eliminate the mandatory freshman year on campus.

This past class of freshmen (Class of '13) will be required to live on campus or in approved (Greek) housing for two years. It's all about fostering campus one-ness and school spirit (which is a load of b.s., but that's even more off-topic).

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

Besides all the home games. I plan on being at the Northeastern and Harvard games, Lake Placid, Atlantic City. Other road games to be determined week of games. Cannot wait for the season to begin.
How did I forget about the trip to Lake Placid?! I'll also be there. The only home games I might miss are the CCT / SLU weekend. Living in North Carolina during the holidays does not make that an easy drive.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

The Collar City Madmen aren't going to AC unless RPI is there. Otherwise, we're all going to Rochester for the Atlantic Hockey tournament as a protest vote.

There's worse things to do than be belly up at both Dinosaur Barbecue and Nick Tahoe's. We'd all gain about 10 pounds but whatever, sure beats being in f-ckin' New Jersey to watch a slopfest mess we could've seen in Albany.

I forgot about that one too. I'm game for that. At least I'll be able to make it a bit of an easier drive.

Born, raised, and lived in Rahster: trust me, there are NO worse things than 2 days there, unless it's 3 days. Sure, you can eat a Garbage plate at Nick's, or take in a ballet at the Eastman, but bring your Kevlar vest!

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

The league deserves to end up with Yale, Harvard, Brown, and Colgate.

Why would you want to wish that on the league? Yale would draw quite well, but the other three don't travel well even when theya re winning.

AC was an economic choice for the ECAC; plain and simple. The attendance in Albany ahs been atrocious. RPI will draw anyplace, so if they make it the crowds will be decent. If not, they will be like LP or Albany the first year, and decline from there.

(facepalm)

Serenity now.

I was maybe 10 or 11 when the first time I went to LP for the tournament and remember driving home the saturday night in some hairy conditions. Then like 4 years later rode up on a friday in near blizzard conditions. But it was always worth it.

Fishcore-I notice the address as Halfmoon-back in the 60's when I was at RPI I stayed for the summers and took courses but had to live off campus-lived in Waterford, Mechanicville and Halfmoon. In Halfmoon worked for a farmer on his farm and he let me keep my German Shepherd with me for the summer. Had a blast there. I am sure things have changed a lot since then but it was all open spaces with tons of small farms. :)

It's suburbia now Doc. Most of the farmers stopped farming, sold off their land and now its all cookie cutter-like housing. There's still some farms in Halfmoon closer to the border with Waterford and Mechanicville, but progress (and nice real estate) is moving in in a big way.

Credit to M'bury for their midfield - they were too fast for RPI...they were able to advance the ball pretty easily putting pressure/mismatches on our D. Hats off to the Engineers for a great season..they've come a long way in few seasons.
OK...are you telling me that now I'm going to end up following RPI Lax too? If that's the case, we may have to move to Troy for 4 years. The B.R.O. played attack and ran over people in HS...the Hubster played semi pro box lax and started a league in the NY metro area when Lacrosse was unknown. If you turn this into a lacrosse thread I'll withhold your supply of home made Irish Cream!:p

Lacrosse may not be Division I but RPI has a proud history and a considerable following in Division III. We did win a national championship back in the old days under Ned Harkness (who also won one in Hockey-becoming one of the rare breed to win NCAA championships coaching 2 different sports). You are going to love it!:)

Thanks GLM -I knew it had to have changed from the old days-everything does. There sure was some choice real estate available there years ago.

So long as you have association with RPI, you will have the opportunity to follow any of our sports. Hockey, lacrosse, football, track, whatever you wish.

Yeah Halfmoon has changed alot like GLM said. Waterford well its still Waterford just more bars and antique stores and Mechanicville is still a town full of italians haha. If I may ask where abouts in Halfmoon was this farm? Because Im sure its probably not there anymore thanks to the housing boom and strip mall mania.

The farm was a stones throw from the Mohawk-used to get off the Northway and take route 9(before there was a Halfmoon exit) and make the first right after crossing over the water and went up that road about 2 miles. IIRC there was a school ot far away where I used to let the dog run free. Loved the area which was in reality so close to Albany and Troy yet felt you were out in the country. Felt that way about Waterford also-used to cross the bridge from North Troy where there was a huge Freihofer's bakery outlet and plant and then make a right turn and follow along the Hudson on River Road to where the old A&P warehouse was-worked on a farm there also. Brings back great memories from the early to mid 1960's.
