RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

My thought is that there couldn't be a negative profit. Since 1.3 million was spent on the women's team, 1.3 million had to be the revenue.

Most schools didn't do it that way. I suspect that since the RPI Student Union is considered independent from the Institute, what comes from there is considered income to RPI.

14 schools (including the Engineers) have exactly $0 in profit for the women's team while the men's team has no profit. Cornell also has exactly $0 in women's profits while the men's team makes nearly $600k. To me, this seems like creative accounting. Especially when I don't believe that Quinnipiac's or St. Lawrence's (or RPI's) women's team makes over a million dollars.

1.3 million spent on the women's team would be a considerably larger sum than was spent on the men's team during my tenure.

18 scholarships x $50,000 per year = $900,000; is that getting included?

The other possibility is that RPI has made the women's team the "owner" of the field house, and has the men's team "lease" it from them. This is what some schools do (not necessarily for hockey; I know that UVA does it for rowing), possibly for Title IX purposes (although the UVA rowing example is the opposite; the men benefit from a generous "lease" arrangement to the women's team because the men need extra funding since they are a club team).

Today is 14 May 2010. There are 147 days (21 weeks) until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 8 October for the start of next season.

How does RPI figure that the women's team gets $1.3 million in revenue?

I went to a few women's games this past season. They were fun to watch. It was that $28,000 ticket price that keeps everyone away

That must've been one heck of bag of popcorn that came with that seat...

Ralph Baer -- Where did you get those figures from? While I would like to think that RPI is in about the top third of all schools based on spending for hockey, I doubt that it is true.

Ralph this was an exchange we had back a few weeks ago. Seems we both underestimated what RPI spends on program.

Ralph, noticed the #of posts have gone down the last few days - so here is a quiz question. Mike Adessa of course was known for his acid tongue. He called one of his players "a stumpy, heavy-footed, poor-skating, no-shooting kid". Can you guess who he said this about? For the answer go to the following link

Guess whoever wrote that one missed out on the Washington/Detroit final.

One of the commenters to Bucky's article that was discussed in WaP posted the link.
