Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

Could Ben Barr return from the dark side?

That is certainly possible - probably more likely since it would be a somewhat odd trajectory for Graham to go from a high Junior A head coach to a low-to-mid college-level assistant coach. Then again, if his ultimate goal is college head coaching, then that's the kind of jump he'll have to make at some point.

Given what Union did offensively last season and what Graham seems to have made happen pretty quickly in Alberini Valley (name might be off), both seem like they are well on their way in the coaching world. Then again, neither has anywhere near the track record with recruiting that Monty does.

This was also mentioned in the USHR article about Dubuque:

Curadi, a 6'5", 250 lb. LD is a player Montgomery is very familiar with, having recruited him to RPI this past winter. "I saw him with the Hartford Jr. Wolfpack (two years ago) and then with Penticton (this past winter) and the steps he has made are impressive. He had the skating, the shot, and the size already, but defensively he's really put it all together, particularly learning how to transition the puck. He's very physical and could be an impact guy at the college level, and also next year in the USHL."

If Monty says he is "done with defensemen and moving onto the forwards now" I gotta think it might be JL heading to Iowa or a possible unknown recruit at this time. Im fairly certain Higgs will be in Troy this fall as well as Tinordi since he's already in the directory, Rogic is still a mystery to me.

Also, in Troy he would only be a 3 hr. car ride from home, if he needed his poutine fix. :D As RB has stated many times, I believe JL's presence or lack thereof in Troy will boil down to his test scores. If his scores are not up to snuff AND he still desires to attend the 'tute, then playing for Monty in Dubuque is certainly a possibility.

Don't knock poutine. That stuff is absolutely FABULOUS! Although cheese curd you do have to look for around here, it's worth it. Oh great..... now I want some.

Hopefully JL does well with his exams.

In his talk at the Banquet Monty alluded to all the things he learned from SA.He made it a point to thank him(not his exact words but something to the effect)for Teaching and mentoring him on the ins and outs of recruiting in college hockey. We must remember that SA came from DU where the ***'t there has the reputation as being one of the top recruiters in College Hockey.I believe the assistants do a lot of leg work and evaluation of talent, but lets face it finding high end talent is not rocket science these kids are all on everyones radar screen...The trick is getting them in your uniform. That responsibility lies w/the head coach.I believe we couldn't be in better hands w/SA...He has the track record to prove it.So no matter who becomes our ***'t We won't skip a beat recruiting.

Nolan Graham, per the BCHL message board.

Good to know; he should help us with recruiting Western Canada. With Barr being from Minnesota, he wasn't going to add anything geographically to the coaching staff.

When did I knock it? I've ingested more than enough of the magical stuff to keep my future cardiologist very busy. :p

Congrats to Nolan for returning to the fold ! That makes two AC's with Alberni on their resumes...

Whether or not an RPI forward recruit appears in IA., I'm not ready to give up on the thought of Quinn joining the B.R.O and Monty in corn country.

Agreed there. Call it sneaking suspicion but I figure on Quinn being there in Dubuque.

Great news to hear about Nolan Graham should that prove to be true.

Nolan is one person who can definitely tell us the facts about Rogic....:p

Today is 2 May 2010. There are 159 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 8 October for the start of next season.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

Not a big shock there. I think it'll be a good fit for him and I'm excited to see him after another season of experience.

Also, we may finally know why he didn't play in the playoffs. The article states that Quinn battled pneumonia last season.

It'll be a shame if he ends up paired with that defenseman for the faux red. :p

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

Good to see Quinn and Curadi playing a year together before coming to Troy. Hopefully they along with Coach Montgomery can help sway a few players to come to RPI in the years to come. With that happening I wonder if Coach Appert has another defensemen in hiding that none of us have been able to find out about as of yet. Guess we will have to wait and see when the official announcement about this years freshman class is made.

I think it will be very valuable experience for Nick...both playing for Monty in the USHL and being away from home.
