Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

That'd be a good way to get people fired up for the right and wrong reasons. Considering how well received he was at 1985 weekend this past year it'd seem like a no-brainer. We all know that that's not how such an announcement would go down though.

I like it but with huge bad-PR related reservations.

I alluded to it in a post earlier-I like it also. Just not sure we need to add a new member to the ROH every year.

Didn't we skip a year? Did we start it in 2005-06? Or are there 6 and I am just plain losing my mind? I could have sworn there were 5 and Adam was put up there in 2004-05, meaning we had skipped a year.

There are five: Oates, Juneau, Harkness, Chiarelli, and Brinkworth. Oates was honored in 04-05, so we did skip a year; I think between Harkness and Chiarelli.

That's what I thought. As for the attendance difference, I never really noticed much of one. They may co-incide it with a special night (usually the night after Black Friday, which is usually Greek Night), but I don't think the attendance figures actually rise because a specific person is being honored. Granted, there are posters here that have the numbers in front of them and are eager to prove me wrong.

I haven't heard any rumors about the new AC? (Or two if Kevin Broad is also leaving.)

As to Juha, he was born in 1993. He probably has a year of HS left.

heard that monty's replacement is recent alum from Fridge years.

We skipped a season, but not a year. No one was inducted into the RoH during the 08-09 season, but Chiarelli was honored in February 2008 and Brinkworth was inducted in November 2009.

Sorry jstadts, but if my memory serves me correctly, there have been at least two statements from the institute stating that there would be no more than one inductee per season / year. And, do you really believe that there are more than one absolutely spectacular, phenomenal, without a doubt, cream of the crop players from each class? The Hall of Fame is overpopulated and it would be a shame if the same thing happened to the Ring of Honor.

burgie12, hope all is well. I haven't been commenting on HOF or ROH only to say hammond would be a decent choice and I threw Adessa's name out just to be controversial. you might have me mistaken for someone else.

My apologies, it was jstadts.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

There is a recent article about Dubuque in USHR. Can someone who subscribes report on if it mentions who will be the second RPI recruit there?
It says Dubuque has signed their first three tenders, all defensemen. The players include RPI recruit (Curadi), a Cornell recruit (Ryan) and an Alaska-Anchorage recruit (Docken).
Montgomery says that, now that he's signed three d-men, "We're on to the forwards next."
Dubuque has a total of seven tenders, so they have four more players to scoop up before the drafts in a few weeks.

Edit: Does anybody know how many international players a USHL team can have on their roster?

Thanks. Tough day at work -- the internet connection was down since about 7 AM and there was no water in the bathroom. Supposedly, the events were not connected, but I suspect Al Qaeda -- or Clarkson. ;)

Actually the bathroom problem was solved by going down another hall. The intenet -- supposedly Verizon cut a BIG fiber optic cable.

That must've been some cable Ralph, as Verizon had issues in these parts as well.:D

Article from the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald about Monty and the steps they will take to fill their roster (no mention of another RPI player.) It does include some good info and dates for the upcoming USHL expansion draft and 1st pick in the futures draft. http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=280698

"...The USHL granted Dubuque seven pre-draft tenders, while fellow expansion franchise Muskegon received six. The Lumberjacks, in turn, will have seven selections in the expansion draft (May 17), while Dubuque will pick six players."

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

I agree with your general point, but don't think Troy would be as bad as you make it out to be. Playing junior hockey in Iowa is a lot different than playing for RPI; at RPI you have classes all day to distract you, are surrounded by hundreds of people in the roughly the same new situation as you. In Iowa, he'd have 17 guys on his hockey team he could somewhat relate to, but the lifestyle is completely different. You wake up and have nothing to do all day, no friends outside of hockey, etc.
Also, in Troy he would only be a 3 hr. car ride from home, if he needed his poutine fix. :D As RB has stated many times, I believe JL's presence or lack thereof in Troy will boil down to his test scores. If his scores are not up to snuff AND he still desires to attend the 'tute, then playing for Monty in Dubuque is certainly a possibility.

The expansion draft picks from other USHL teams. So we can assume they are going to use one of the seven pre-draft tenders on the 2nd recruit, since there aren't any USHL recruits.

I've been led to believe his academics are not in question.

Concur. I think the language barrier thing I mentioned earlier is a big factor. if anybody can get this kid in here it is SA. Prediction- May press release on incoming recruits will have JL on it. SA will get it done. BTW-I love Troy, I am a lifelong Troyliet.

IIRC, they are allowed two and can have a third one if he is returnee.

Today is 1 May 2010. There are 160 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 8 October for the start of next season.
