No word on Polacek attending an NHL prospect camp...I'm mildly surprised by this. I'd have thought some team would've had him in... Knowing Chase, he'll use it as more motivation this fall. :p

I agree. In the games I saw him, he was like a guided missile...a very dynamic player.

I was told by a very wise person at a pretty high level that the prospect thing is certainly no science; that 5 scouts can watch the same player and give you a different report on him (kind of like:

...oh, and the blind part? That really would suit 5 referees better...:p

Following the USA Hockey Select 16 camp, Dubuque forward Riley Barber has earned a spot on the USA U-17 team that will compete in the 5 Nations tourney next month in Switzerland.

Also, RPI prospect - forward Andrew Poturalski attended the camp, and while he was named a camp all-star, was not named to the U-17 5 Nation team.

I totally agree with this. It's interesting that other ECAC forwards are attending camps, Chase is not...the kid has a 6th gear that no one can touch and has desire that you can't teach.

Are thare other undrafted ECAC forwards who are attending camps?

Yup - Off the top of my head I know Dartmouth's Adam Estoclet and SLU's Aaron Bogosian are with Pirri in Hawks camp. I'd bet there are others.

Do you have to receive an invitation to attend an NHL camp? If this is the case, I would not be surprised if the NHL scouts are still dubious about his size and aren't inviting him. Remember that as good as Chase is, he's a relatively small guy.

You can't teach speed-but you also can't teach size and although Chase has considerable talent(personally and from scouts I know perhaps even NHL level talent) he does not have NHL level size. In this day and age everyon e is getting bigger and it is sad that is perhaps the biggest consideration.:(

We were posting at the same time-with the same thoughts.:)

Yes, it is invite only...I don't think NHL teams could handle American Idol type crowds for open tryouts...:p

As for his size, its all the more reason to bring him into a camp - to see how he competes against top talent who is bigger. Its not like it costs the team a draft pick or roster spot.

And they wouldn't even have to pay for Chase's travel costs. :)

To be honest, however, it doesn't surprise me that he isn't at a camp.

Of course that has always been true, but I know a few kids named Bourque, Gerbe, and St. Louis who would argue to the contrary...:p

Again, I wasn't talking draft picks or checks with lots of zeros (not yet anyway:p ), just an invite to a camp. If a talentless, left-footed goon like Matt Nickerson can grab a spot at a camp, gawd knows Chase deserves one.

Maybe he didn't want to go.

I think I said mildly surprised...:p As biased as I am, I'd have him in my camp in a heartbeat...I know one thing, the camp goalies are glad he's not there...:p

The goons are more likely to get an invite. Teams always seem to be looking for the next Bob Probert- a goon with some skills. Guys like Chase have to prove themselves constantly-I suppose if he scores 30+ this year that teams will line up for him like they did after Tapper's 3rd year. He had 7 teams tryng to sign him.

Hobey Baker Semi-finalist ain't good enough anymore, eh?

If he produces a better season than last year (and that's pretty tough to do given his reputation across the ECAC and how it was handled in the latter weeks), then he'd probably get a few looks. He'll probably spend a few years in the AHL to bulk up, though. I don't see him heading to the NHL right away, and that's all from a standpoint of size.

I'm not sure if I have my facts straight here or not, but I heard Garett Vassel may have received a camp invite from the Wild (but don't quote me...I don't know if it materialized)
