OK, There are about 100 posts left in this thread. Time to ask for suggestions for a title to Part IV. :)

In the past, I have been creating a separate thread for recruits and potential recruits each year, and I currently intend to start such a thread again approximately when the junior teams start playing. I am now wondering if it is better to just have a single RPI thread active at any time (not counting the alumni and women's threads).

Was wondering this myself. Obviously we have filled these offseason threads faster since combining the two elements but it has often made for very lively discussion.

The only thing I hesitate on are your common updates of recruit statistics during the season. If we keep the threads together that might work better if it's just once a week or something of the like. JMO.

Couldn't we just create "Thread Title Association" in the café? :D

I think we should keep them separate, given the amount of posting that we do as is. I do realize that the topics do cross at times, but when you count off-season, we're generally doing 7-8 threads in a year, even with all of the separation. Also, let's figure how often we read these posts in a day. I know some of our posters have difficulty "catching up" as it is now. If we put it all together, those posters might have to read through half a thread just to catch up.

As for titles:

I do intend to continue the game-by-game recruit posts. That was part of the reason for the separate threads in the past.

I think that the main reason that we have had more posting this summer than in past years is not the combining of the threads, but a general feeling of optimism for the coming year by everyone except hokydad.

Something about I-V also crossed my mind.

I think a lot of it also had to do with the fact that we spent about half a thread arguing about our early exit from the playoffs with thrice-yearly posters that require the purchase of Depend. Also, because we seem to be digging up a lot of information on both our recruits and current players (like a specific member of The A-Team), there's actually something to talk about. I don't know if you have found such a volume of information in the past decade, Ralph.

And there also is the continuing saga of whether or not JL will ever play hockey in Troy.

Quote from Monty regarding the VIP seats at the new rink in Dubuque:

"I don't know if I'd put my beer or soda or nachos on the ledge around the glass, though. If Luke Curadi hits somebody on the ice in front of you, that stuff will be all over your lap." :D :p

Some thoughts on Dallas Stars prospect camp with a mention of Mike Bergin. He's also shown in the youtube clip at the bottom of the page (on the right) wearing a black sweater #59.

Another college player who is a pretty good prospect is defenseman Mike Bergin, who is playing at RPI. He’s got some good size (listed at 6-3/200 pounds), skates well and has some good offensive skills. He was a 7th round pick (209th overall) in 2009, but he could be one of those nice late round finds. Still early in his development, but he’s got potential.

Predators camp gets going today and Jeff Foss is listed on the roster.

More great experience for both of these guys, who need to take big steps forward this year, as I expect they will.

Anything about Pirri going to a Blackhawks camp, or did I miss that post already?

Nolan Graham is officially an RPI Assistant Coach http://www.rpiathletics.com/news/2010/7/7/MHOCK_0707105127.aspx.
“I am extremely excited to once again play an active role in RPI hockey, and continue building on the advances the program has made over the past couple of seasons,” said Graham, a former forward. “I look forward to giving back to the RPI student-athletes and community and am eager to work with Coach Appert and Coach Vines in building towards a championship program.”

“I am very excited to bring one of our own back to Rensselaer as we continue to elevate our program,” said Appert, who is entering his fifth year as head coach. “Nolan’s passion, work ethic, knowledge of the game and understanding of what it takes to win will be a great asset to the RPI hockey family. He will pass these winning attributes on to our young men much like he did this past year in Alberni Valley.”
