All of these classy mixed cocktails and I'm stuck with beer. Oh well, at least it's Leinenkugel's and not B-. I'm still pleasantly surprised that it was served at the Joe during the GLI.

Leiney's was by far the best beer at JLA for the GLI. At $9 each though it had to be. :o

$9??? Last time I paid that much for a beer it was EKU 28 and it flat out knocked me on my butt-did not realize until later that the 28 was the proof:o

Actually, according to one of my other friends (who obviously doesn't go to HDB), it's tough to find in the capital region, as Price Chopper doesn't carry it. Wegmans does (if you have one around you; they actually do some of the specialty flavors). Even the traditional beverage distributors around Syracuse don't carry it, hence why you don't see it in the bars around here.

Some Albany area P. Choppers do have it (I've bought it at stores in Alb. and G'land recently) but I'm sure that the PC stores that carry it vary, as with many things they sell. The Brew Crew stores - Guilderland and Albany bevies have it too....

Having personally witnessed the debacle in Lewiston last year, here's hoping we mop the floor with them this year. :D

That said, I do give credit to NU -- the are well-coached and they are not unlike RIT in that they usually have plenty of 23 yr. old, crooked-nosed freshmen on the squad. :p

Seriously... I feel so bad that I subjected my brother to that horrendous display...

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season III -- How we learned to stop worrying and love the Class of '14

quick observation on, "SHOTS ON GOAL"....we won 10 games last year when we were outshot, biggest disparity; Mich.46 RPI 13, we won 4-3....We lost 10 games when we outshot our opponent, biggest disparity; we outshot Army 40-16 and lost 2-1....and I hate even remembering this one....we outshot Princeton 41-32 and lost BRF 7-0. Point is, I don't believe it's quantity but quality. I also think it's vital that our D-men take more shots than they did. If anything, just to bring the defense out so there's more room in front of the net for putbacks. I agree with whoever made the point that our D-men often seemed to wait till the defense came out to them before they shot & more often than not had their shot blocked. JMO

At the end of the 1st period of that Michigan game, shots were 15-3 Michigan, and we were up 2-0. I would say, in that particular example, there was "another factor" involved, if you know what I mean.

Are our defensemen looking for the perfect shot, or the perfect pass? Maybe. Did we put more towards the net this past year as opposed to other years? Most definitely. What's the difference? Who you have to grab the rebound. Against Bentley, how did Joel Malchuk have 2 goals? Just stood there in front to put the rebound home. The goal doesn't have to be pretty, all that has to happen is that the puck completely crosses the line. If you run into a hot goalie (like against Army), that is going to happen sometimes, THEN you can start looking for the perfect pass or perfect one-timer. Until you figure that out, throw a few at the goalie, and see if he can swallow them. If he can't, set a screen or two, and then grab that rebound. I know with the ECAC defensemen that's easier said than done, but who knows what could happen.

I was looking for the specific type they sold at JLA as that was REALLY good but have yet to find it around here. Not too many varieties of Leiney's make it out here, sadly.

Stranger that I can find multiple varieties of English or Russian beer but rather popular things like Leiney's are hard to get. Go figure.

Classic Amber? Wegmans typically sells it as part of a variety pack, and they may have started selling them as 6-packs. I don't know how much further east of Syracuse they have expanded, though.

EDIT: They're in NJ and VA, but unfortunately it's most Central NJ; probably the closest you could find is either Syracuse or Scranton. Perhaps ask HDB.

My wife always swore by the Shandy's made by Chris Ryan at the Troy Brew Pub. I guess he must make them now at Ryan's Wake.

Problem with the engineer defensemen was that no one had a "heavy" shot. So it looked like "our guys" had all the time in the world, at the point, because the opposing forwards had no urgencey to cover them. The forwards would "sluff in" and cover the pass. If you have a d man with a quick hard shot it changes everything. But as you say ECAC defensemen....
