The problem with Lowell is that they get carried away with recruits

They have 14 coming in this year alone as freshmen, all listed on Heisenberg.

No one else in Hockey East has more than 8, most 6-7.

Its absurd to recruit 14 for one year

Here is the Saginaw announcement http://www.saginawspirit.com/News/SpiritandWolvesSwapProspectRights.aspx. BTW, Saginaw has signed Saad if that is relevant.
If nothing else, we can always count on the "O" to provide us with their excellent works of fiction: "...He spent the last two seasons in the OJHL, most recently with the Georgetown Raiders."

Gee...that's funny I don't recall seeing his name in the Raiders' box scores last season...OH THAT'S RIGHT, ITS BECAUSE HE WASN'T THERE ! :D :D

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season III -- How we learned to stop worrying and love the Class of '14

I'm not sure what the story is with Visca at Lowell. Coach MacDonald did say at one point he was not being redshirted and that it was a simple case of Visca not being able to break into the lineup. I'm not sure if that's changed. Like many Lowell fans I was a bit surprised since they brought him in as a 18 year old freshman, he could have played another year of junior.

So based on what happened last season I could see Visca making a move to the OHL. Hard to believe Pirri would leave RPI.

It sounds like Visca might want to go to the O and prefers Sudbury to Saginaw. Hopefully JFK has told Pirri that Saginaw is more of a dump than Troy. ;)

That's what the comment that I quoted in post 338 also said. :)

Saginaw traded for Brandon Pirri's rights from Sudbury, word is making a very strong push to leave and go to the O
Will be interesting to see if Blackhawks are in favor, will know after dev camp in early July

He had a great freshman year and as a collegian, Brandon has all kinds of time to workout, practice and getting bigger and stronger -- which is his primary obstacle in getting to the pros. In the O you live out of your suitcase --ride the bus, play, ride the bus, play - with very little time for workouts or individual drills/practices. If I'm the Hawks he stays right where he is...sunglasses firmly in place of course. :p

That is up for debate.

Kids in OHL practice, play and work out, nothing else. Not taking 4 or 5 classes a semester etc.

Most college teams restrict their workouts to injury prevention, most major junior teams do as well but with more of a development approach.

They practice and play twice as many games in a year. The Hawks have a long history of moving their kids to major junior vs D 1, if in fact they think he is a for sure nhl player.

The few in the first 2 rounds they have picked from D 1 have had limited success. Toews of course being the exception who left school sof year.
Keith left school and went major junior for example

There is far more time for individual workouts and skill development at the D1 level...The time spent on travel alone in the O is staggering. Bottom line in the ECAC is classes or no classes, every week you are at home Sunday thru Thursday...you can study film, you can skate, shoot, what have you.

Also to be accurate, the Hawks player paths you listed were under the previous GM. For every move to the O you present, I can give you one where a kid plays 3 or so years in D1, then jumps straight to the AHL. Locally, Jamie McBain had 3 great years with the Badgers then got the call from Carolina/Albany...same goes for OSUs Zac Dalpe -- 2 years D1, then Carolina/Albany.

My point with Pirri is, if it ain't broke don't fix it...if one of my kids puts up 43 pts. in D1 as a true frosh, why am I moving him?

I disagree that there is more individual workout and skill development going on at the D1 level vs major junior. They play 175 games in 2 years vs 60 and practice twice as long. D1 schools are restricted how long they can be on ice, when the coaches can come on ice etc.

I love the D 1 way but it is not close to the same. Ask Jack Skille and Adam Burish etc with Blackhawks, they would both kill to go back and do it over again. Has said many times it is taking more time than he ever imagioned to learn how to play the pro game where the major junior kids walk right in. These two players alone have made Chicago not want kids to stay in college vs major junior

This entire Pirri thing is a waste of time discussing. Yet I do it anyhow :o

If he were heading to the OHL then he wouldn't be dealt for a player that couldn't even make the starting lineup for UML.

And as far as Chicago goes, I seem to recall that they already have a pretty good team with talent to burn. No reason they would push him to the O. They were happy to have Toews develop at UND. Why would they suggest otherwise for a 2nd rounder?

Then again maybe the no icing during the PK thing has him worried about crashing into the boards and ending his career. :p

And no Black Friday (it's Black Saturday instead  )
Well, if it wasn't Black Saturday, Black Friday was going to be January 7th. And that just doesn't seem intelligent.

I would have thought the two games with Union could have been switched.
