This thread is way better than most;)

I do have the radio voice as it is and can do other voices. I have no shame about hamming it up for a gag.

I got a different article about the same guy. Interesting that he will be heading to Dubuque in 2011.

That is a nice story and a good analysis of the differences between juniors and the US college route.

It appears as if there will be some significant changes in the rules next season.

Contact to the head: I can understand, we want to protect the players. I can just see some players, though, leaning down and trying to abuse the rule just to draw a major, similar to how they turn to draw the CFB penalty.

Hybrid icing: About time.

Obtainable pass: Understandable, now that no-touch is gone.

Goalie sides for overtime: uh huh.

Icing during penalties, delayed penalty goal: To prevent cranial and facial abrasions, I'm going to pretend that I didn't see these.

Approval awaits but I don't see all of that going down in one off-season. Putting more decisions in the hands of officials already seems like a bad idea at this level of hockey.

and at this level of officiating competence. :)

That was implied with what I was saying. If guys were better officials they'd be in the AHL or NHL. :)

Not sure I like the icing rule during penalties-I think it just puts too much emphasis on power plays and in effect makes the ref calls even more important(and we all know how the refs can influence a game:( )This is one part of the game they should not tinker with. Refs calling penalties to put you 2 men down especially late in the game is bad enough-but not being able to clear the puck the length of the ice to relieve the pressure is just going overboard. Unless there is significant improvement in the ECAC officials-I do not want to see them exert that kind of control over the outcome of a game. For reference we need just remember the Kotyra/Murphy fiasco in our second playoff game with Cornell year before last.

You're saying Frank Murphy is competent?! (Granted I don't think he's worn the orange, but still, he's in the AHL reffing...)

Who sits on the Ice Hockey Rules Committee and the Playing Rules Oversight Panel? Does the Rules Oversight Panel consist of just hockey schools, or is it a cross-section of the entire NCAA membership?

AKA, what are the chances of any / all of these change proposals actually passing?

Also, agreed with Ralph, Doc, et al on not needing to increase the influence of the refs. Of course, that's a common theme among us RPI posters.

I want to know, who is going to take care of the first kid that goes into the boards head first trying to negate an icing.
These are still kids playing this game and they are going to do some stupid things just to negate an icing.
The no touch rule is the best rule in college hockey.
It takes the referees and the injuries out of the equation.

The idea with the hybrid icing is that the linesman makes the call of whether icing is waved off at the faceoff dots, reducing the number of people charging all the way into the boards to get the puck. And if it's close enough that the two would be arriving at the same time, the icing is called. As far as I can tell this basically serves the situation where the team that iced the puck has a long jump on the opponent and everyone grumbles about icing being called when it wouldn't have even been considered were it the NHL.

Yes. It was put in place in the USHL and supposedly worked fairly well.

In answer to my questions on who makes up the panel, it is detailed on the NCAA website and another thread had the links.

Ice Hockey Rules

Playing Rules Oversight Panel

There is not a single hockey representative on the Playing Rules Oversight Panel. Hopefully, that does not mean they are a rubber stamp-type panel.

Found this audio interview featuring Steven Beyers, who mentions that his college choices are down to RPI and Wisconsin.

Also got this article about Beyers being drafted by the Fargo Force last month.

Changing the icing rule during penalties is just dumb. If the pk is out there for over a minute and they finally do clear will they be forced to stay on the ice after the icing with no change of lines as is the current rule? If you are concerned about protecting the health of kids this is not they way to go. A very bad idea.

Today is 12 June 2010. There are 112 days (16 weeks) until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 2 October for the start of next season.

Thanks, especially for the audio link. Too bad that he mentioned Wisconsin first. That could mean that we will need to make a better offer than UW.

Maybe we should offer him an education then.
