Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season III -- How we learned to stop worrying and love the Class of '14

This scheduling conflict was mentioned here a few weeks ago. I'm surprised that few peoplle seemed to care. I think the attendance for a 4 pm non-leaguer in Placid was going to be iffy, but with the football game in Troy on the same day I fear the turnout for hockey will be dismal. I was looking forward to a day and a night in Placid watching hockey and enjoying the Cottage, but that won't happen now.

I still would like them to consider movingthe football game to friday night so as to avoid the conflict, but I don't think that will happen.

I did not "seem to care" because I had already made my decision about what I was choosing to attend, as I'm sure many of the other posters here had done. I look forward to spending a little time with the family, as well as attending both hockey games.

The timing of the football game is probably thanks to TW3 who if I remember correctly has televised the last few Union-RPI games. I know Albany isnt a huge market revenue wise but selling ads to sponsors during prime time on a saturday is different than during the daytime. I already made my choice of going to Lake Placid.

NCAA Academic Progress Rates just released. RPI finished with a 993. Tied for 4th in the league with SLU and Harvard. Brown with a 1000 tops the list. At least we are graduating kids. :D

(Raising hand)

With all due respect to Jerry D'Amigo, how long has it been since RPI had an assistant captain who was a sophomore?

Jerry & Chase's work on the ice brought a whole new level of intensity to this team. Both are more than deserving. Jerry is likely a goner after this year...he is a sophomore in academic terms, not hockey terms.

There's that wanton speculation with no basis I was hoping would bleed its way into this thread from the Harvard thread.

Come on now, you're better than that.

Can I borrow this data for another thread? ;)

Quite proud, and did not expect anything less whatsoever.

Just saw a pair of hockey players climbing the stairs of the '87 Gym. Less than dedicated, they are not. Speak like Yoda, I will.

Today is 10 June 2010. There are 114 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 2 October for the start of next season.

I'm kinda conflicted on this; on the one hand I hope TW3 will broadcast the game. If they do, I'll be in Lake Placid. On the other hand I hope they won't broadcast the game, shooting football with RPI TV is quite fun, and we have only 4 home football games this year.

It's also my understanding that TW is paid a significant amount by the participating schools to broadcast the game (for both football and hockey), and that this amount exceeds ad revenue.

Also, TW does broadcast the games in other NY sites now, possibly to try to get some ad revenue in those locations. Granted I will not be home, but I am happy that I get to see my team play from here when RPI TV isn't allowed to broadcast due to TW rights.

Granted, for football, if I really wanted to see the team, I'd go to either Utica or Geneva (Hobart), depending upon the year.

Just passing this along in casse anyone missed it. it has a profound effect on former students dating back for the last 35 years. Former Res Life director, Pete Snyder, 63, drowned yesterday on Lake George in a kayaking incident. Snyder was instrumental in some Res Life policies, and, when I was a member of the Student Orientation team, got a chance to work with him over the summer. May he rest in peace.

I don't read the Harvard thread...so whatever you're referring to had nothing to do with what I wrote.

My opinion (that is why we post, to share thoughts and opinions?) is that I think that if Jerry has another year like the one he had, Toronto will come calling. If this surprises or offends some, so be it.

Awful story -- I didn't know Mr. Fowler but my thoughts are with this family. Truly tragic. Folks, for god sakes, if you're on the water please wear a quality PFD. These senseless tragedies can be avoided.

This is my understanding as well. I know the sales and marketing folks are pushing hard to increase revenues to pay for the TV.

A congrats is in order to Paul Vincent, the skating and skills coach for the Chicago Blackhawks. Some might remember Paul who was a coach at RPI back in the day when they won the national championship..

One of the all time great hockey guys out there.

Paul is the man. Has developed more NHL guys over the past 20 years than anyone out there.

When they asked Brent Sopel how he went from 6 minutes and barely making a team to 20+ minutes, he looked at the camera and said, "two words, Paul Vincent"

Just ask Adam Oates what he meant to his carear.

Who could ever forget the classic movie, Oates to Neely to you, by Paul Vincent...
