RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

As I recall, a couple years ago there were some big hits in the scrimmage that led to a pretty heated debate on here about the appropriate intensity level when playing against your own team. I am on the side that if you are going to play a game with a scoreboard, refs, etc. then all-out is the only appropriate way to play. Most others seemed to disagree. I do think that the apparent lack of tempo in the scrimmage is an inevitable consequence of suggesting that players hold up in some aspects of the game (if such a suggestion was directly made or even implied prior to the scrimmage).
Its also important to remember that our guys have been practicing without on-ice coaching....Now that coaches can run practices Seth will snap the whip. :D

Papa Johns in RHam's photo. I always thought that it wouldn't be very hard to barter with a body shop for a paint job, in exchange for a big ad over the headlights...just a thought. Hey, I'm just trying to improve the fan experience for y'all...Hooters girls as Zamboni co-pilots would be nice too... :D

Ads on the Hooters girls' headlights? ;)

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

At least we have two. Plus, I think we'd rather spend our money on having them work should a rogue T-shirt find its way to the ice. :D

I can't remember, do the zambonis have ads on them anymore? No access to pictures at this time. I know Stewart's used to sponsor along with the guess the attendance contest.

The Papa John's branding on the white one is new this year, they also have a new ad on the dasher boards.

The other zamboni retained the United Group branding from the last couple years:

There's actually quite a few new ads along the boards this year, good to see more local businesses getting involved.

Thanks for the pics RHam. Now that they've painted the HFH interior, maybe they can splurge for new paint jobs for the Zambonis...:D That thing looks like RPI bought it second hand from ORDA.

How about taking a sledge hammer to it to make it look MEAN?

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

im a little worried about playing hard tomorrow night. flying out west and then playing 2 games so early in the season. 3 in 5 nights.

hopefully we save some energy for CC.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

They sure do pack a lot of action into the early part of the schedule.

When I was a freshman at RPI, the football team played its ninth and final game at home on Nov. 12. Following the game, fans were invited to make their way to the Field House to see the hockey team in a preseason scrimmage against a Junior B team from Canada. The first regular season hockey game didn't take place until two weeks later.

This year's football team will play its ninth and final game on Nov. 13. By that time, the hockey team will already have played ten games (not even counting the UNB exhibition) and will play its eleventh later that night.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Just curious. :p BTW, his Linked-In profile says that he is in the Albany area, without details (or at least the part that I could read).

I have a feeling he might be, he was at the golf outing and I have seen him at skate arounds at Frear in the past.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I thought one of our posters said they would be coaching one of the squads. Burger12 or Turk? Can't recall...
NOT ME  as for the Zambonis, I believe one of them belongs to the Bethlehem YMCA, that's what I was told last yr. by one of the Y's staff

I dunno, its possible I suppose. If anything perhaps RPI bought one of their Zs when the Big Y eliminated one of its sheet of ice. RPI has had two scrapers on site for many years.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Didn't we also say on here that it is the same rink manager? Or is that just between HFH and the practice arena?
