Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Didn't we also say on here that it is the same rink manager? Or is that just between HFH and the practice arena?
no, I had mentioned that one of the fellas who was putting down the ice at the Y also did the ice at HFH. He drove one of the Zambonis Sat.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I thought one of our posters said they would be coaching one of the squads. Burger12 or Turk? Can't recall...

Ha. That's a funny joke. I know about as much about coaching hockey as one of those flying disks of vulcanized rubber knows.

Oh and one more thing. Don't forget to bring your baseball gloves / hard hats to the game tomorrow night. Expect some pucks to be flying into the stands.

I do not expect this to be the case even if they do enforce that ridiculous rule. I suspect they won't.

BTW...what does the green line under our names with the gradation of shades signify? Everyone's looks alike (except for one that I saw that was red)

Reputation. If yours is green, people tend to like you. If yours is red, people tend to dislike you.

<marquee>In honor of Seth Appert, John Burke and the assistant coaches, today is 5 October 2010. There are 0 days until RPI's next game.</marquee>

This is based upon 5 October for the start of next season.

I'm surprised my patience held up for all of the scrolling there. Good job on the countdown clock RB. Next countdown clock? XX days until we whoop the ECAC's collective asses this season.

Tonight's game http://www.troyrecord.com/articles/2010/10/05/sports/doc4caaa8e00a5af689790297.txt

Another article http://www.troyrecord.com/articles/2010/10/05/sports/doc4caaa9365500c666789898.txt which I will have to read again when I am awake.
“I don’t believe in external motivators,” Appert continued. “I believe in external motivators.
If he says so. (The second probably should be "internal" based upon what follows.)

Junior center Mike Bergin ...

April, if we're lucky... twice.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I mentioned it on the Without a Peer podcast last week, but is has been 50 years since the University of New Brunswick hockey team has been in Troy -- Dec. 30, 1960 when they lost 4-1. As far as we can dig up on our end, UNB has a lifetime record of 0-2-1 against he Engineers.

A win tonight would be a nice change! :)

Btw, UNB has one Engineering student in the line-up. Matt Fillier is a checking forward who is in his second year of Geodesy and Geomatics (they called it Survey Engineering back when I was a student ...)

RPI claims a 4-0-1 record vs. UNB. The last game was in our Holiday tourney on 12/29/71, a 4-3 RPI win. I would have to check my programs at home, but I am pretty sure that I was there.

Countdown clocks are typically only done during the off-season to keep the thread at Page 1. During the season, we have plenty to talk about to not warrant a countdown clock. I don't know if WaP will be doing a game-by-game countdown clock.

Not that we needed it to keep the thread on page 1 this year. :)

Thanks Ralph. UNB has traditionally not done a good job of tracking their history, and a buddy of mine has been forced to go through library microfilm of newspapers to try to fill in the gaps.

So I just went to check his database, and discovered he e-mailed me an incorrect fact! :)

It looks like UNB did indeed lose to RPI 4-3 on Dec. 29, 1971, and RPI had 60 shots on goal.

I stand corrected.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Me again. UNB's back end is so banged up (Ben Shutron gone for season with broken femur, Ben Wright gone until Christmas with knee injury, and 6'5" Josh Kidd not available supposedly with an injury) that they've enlisted a player from inter-murals for this road trip, Steve Pearce.

To be fair, Pearce played defence for four years with McGill University before graduating and transferring to UNB to study Law. He's in his third and final year, and was supposed to be behind the bench this season as an assistant coach. But he does have one year of CIS eligibility left, and now he's using it.

Steve's twin brother Rob was an outstanding five-year player with the Varsity Reds, and scored the overtime winner in their 2007 University Cup championship final. They both grew up in Fredericton.

That's a lot of experience.
