Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I know that this is a triviality, but I wonder why they changed the name of the scrimmage from "Red and White" to "Cherry and White". I do, of course, know that Cherry is the correct color.

I hope this is your biggest worry for the coming year.;)

New Brunswick and UVM tied 2-2 after regulation. UVM scored twice in the final 2 mins. to tie it up. Game was scoreless after two periods.

Hey folks,

I just uploaded some pictures of the Cherry and White game:
http://photos.cuttlefishtech.com/gallery.php?dir=cherry-10-2

I'd recommend browsing using the 400 pixel thumbnail size if you've got a beefy connection and a large screen (setting at the top).

I took over 900 photos, narrowed it down to about 250 for this gallery. I haven't gone through and corrected exposure or white balance, so there's some bright/dark photos in there. Regardless, they'll serve as a nice photo-introduction to this year's team.

Some captions for a couple:

Rogic's face as his scores his goal:

Kennedy drops Rogic; don't believe this was a penalty though:

AAG trips up Polacek to draw a penalty (click forward a couple to see the result):

AAG trips over Merriam's stick during the shootout:

Kennedy sneaks the game-winner by Merriam:

Uhh ... no. Watched the pay-per-view webcast. UNB was up 2-0 going into last minute. Then took penalty. Then scored shorthanded empty netter, as UVM pulled their goalie on PP. Then UVM scored PP goal in last 30 seconds. Then UVM scored goal through crowd with less than 5 seconds to go. UNB 3-2 final.

First period had no flow due to penalties. UNB started to take control in 2nd period. UNB owned UVM in final period, finally scoring about 5 minutes in, and another about 5 or 6 minutes after that (once each on the second string and third string UVM goalies who played third period). Win looked safe until that bizarre last minute.

:D You could always either brush his teeth or get him to gargle with Listerine:rolleyes:

I take it the reference was lost on you (and Ralph, although the reference being lost on Ralph is way funnier for reasons I'm sure he'll google to understand).

I'm going with it being an anagram for "Myself, I am the castrated bollocks."

Perhaps-but I had seen that sentence as an anagram in the past. I thought it humorous, hence the smiley. But Jenny and I raise cats, so we found it doubly funny. :)

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Does the 7:37 and 7:07 starts mean a chance for these games to be on TV? I would assume Fox College Sports would have them if they were.

USCHO put up a blog post on Friday listing the games that will be covered on TV. RPI is not listed anywhere in that document. Not to say that we won't get some TW games (we probably will), but no FSN or CBS college sports games, etc. in the cards for this year.

Perhaps a minor issue-but it has to be a thought for some recruits that RPI just does not get the media exposure of some other schools.

I agree. However, producing NHL players and getting proper development under respected coaches would be more influential (to me) than getting media exposure.

At the time, I googled it, found out that it was a quote from The Simpsons, and left it at that.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

In honor of Shannon Ramelot, today is 4 October 2010. There is 1 day until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 5 October for the start of next season.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Ralph,

DU beat the U-18s 8-1 on Saturday and CC beat them 7-1 on Sunday. Haggerty did not make the scoresheet in either game and was -1 in both games. They were outshot 88-47 over the 2 nights. The U-18 team gave up 10 3rd period goals as the older college teams tired them out and pounced all over them. The age difference really showed late in the games. The U-18 is a physically large team for the most part but lacks the experience the college players have. In the DU game that I watched no one really stood out for the younger U-18s but they did get the experience of playing at the next level.

Thanks, du78.

Ed Weaver article about the C-W game http://www.troyrecord.com/articles/2010/10/03/sports/doc4ca80ccf04eb3358012476.txt with some comments by SA.

Edit: Sometimes, I think that Ed Weaver puts errors in his articles to see if we find them. That sure looked like JFK scoring vs. Merriam, not York, in RHamilton's picture. I suppose that RHamilton could have used PhotoShop.

Did anyone notice if either Beauregard or Brutlag was on defense at all?

Beauregard played forward all game. Brutlag got time on the blue line during special teams situations both on power play and penalty kill. At least he seemed to play back there, perhaps the way the players were rotating through in the zone I just happened to catch him back there, but it certainly seemed like he was playing defense on the PP and PK.

USCHO Hobey Baker Watch http://www.uscho.com/blogs/hobey-watch/elliot/20101002/2010-11-hobey-baker-watch-preview-part-i.html
Chase Polacek, Sr, Rensselaer - Polacek was the ECAC Hockey Player of the Year last season, and luckily for the Engineers, the nation’s sixth leading scorer turned down any opportunity to turn pro. Unfortunately for the Engineers, that made him the exception rather than the rule among RPI’s top stars. It’ll be interesting to see how the absence of early signees Jerry D’Amigo and Brandon Pirri affect Polacek. When a team loses major weapons, the ones who are left will command more attention, so RPI will need to make up for the lost productivity relatively quickly. Still, when you scored 50 points a year ago and you stay in school, you get consideration for the Hobey coming into the season.
