RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Not worth even worrying about. The only ice time they'll see all season was today. That's it. Bruce Statton was very, very small in stature.

Rogic's speed is sick. Easily the fastest skater I've seen at RPI in years.

Lebeouf's shot is very impressive, Bailen's shot is VERY good from the point. Low, hard, FAST and on target.

Higgs didn't stand out too much.

Bo Dolan appeared to be smaller on the ice than I thought he would be. Perhaps my own goofy assumptions at work there.

Koudys had a nice shot from the point as well. Accurate shot and could help out a lot there. Lebeouf reminds me a lot of Jeff Foss, just left-handed.

Instant reactions:

Guys that will immediately help out: Bailen, Rogic, Lebeouf, Burgdoerfer.

Patience required: Higgs, Koudys.

If 4 of 8 immediately help, it isn't bad. Last year, IMHO we were at 3 of 5. That's not quite as good, but I will take it.

Dead on GLM. There were a couple of times that Rogic just blew by people. His goal in the first was sick. This kids a player. I also really liked LeBoeuf and Koudys. Overall, pace was pretty quick and we seemed to be moving the puck pretty well. There was a lot of finishing checks too which I liked. What about CJ Lee ? He seemed to get the puck a bit and looked pretty good moving it. As for the walk-ons, I dont think any will make the team...they all looked pretty good and could skate well, however during play there were times where they just looked out of place and quite noticable the difference between them and top D-1 players. No knock on them, they were holding their own at times and ballsy to try to make a team like this as a walk on...wish I could have ever been able to play at their level. All being said, I'm liking what I see. This year is going to be fun and cant even imagine next with the BRO, Laliberte, and a NTDP recruit.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I'll echo most of what was said already. Rogic's goal vs. York was a beauty to watch in Section 17. I was quite impressed with his play. The walk-ons, well, looked like walk-ons, seeming out of place at times, not quite up to speed with the others on the ice. Overall, the pace of the game was pretty quick. Hopefully we sharpen up the passing as the year progresses (always seems to be a problem with us year to year). I'm glad we're not in the CCHA and won't find ourselves in too many shootouts...JFK scored the only goal in what could have been termed 'I don't really want to score against my goalie, so I'll just softly pass you the puck'

The HFH looks beautiful from the outside at night with the new glass facade. I can't wait to see the finished product. Yes, they do need to invest in some shade mechanism - by the 3rd period, we had some sun hitting our faces.

One last observation - the league seems to have at least one new referee - I believe his name was Miller. Seemed alright to me, though a game against an actual opponent may tell more of the way he calls games.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

A note on the jerseys. A new ECAC 50th anniversary patch is now on them. Some of the refs had it on as well.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I was ready to start a thread for our games vs. CC. Then I thought, "do these weekly threads serve a purpose?" My thought in the past has been that their existence results in discussion between fans of the teams, and that is useful. (Might be more useful this year because of the PtC.) Sometimes that happens; sometimes it doesn't. Comments?

A bad thing about having additional threads is that babo said that they confuse her. ;)

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Did anyone notice if either Beauregard or Brutlag was on defense at all?

I had never seen any of the refs / linesmen before. Graber was the other ref's name. I forgot the name of the linesmen.

I enjoy discussion. And, if you're providing a link in this thread, I'm sure that it'll be easier for babo to follow :D

Both Beauregard and Brutlag were playing offense the whole time (even when JFK or Leboeuf were in the penalty box). While in the autograph line, I asked Brut if he would be playing up front. He said that he expected to play up front all season. My response was, "You looked good on Chase's line last spring." "Well, not sure how much I'll be playing on his line, but I'll be playing forward for sure."

if I read the name on the ref's jersey right, I believe the one in question was named Martin. Sect 17 got the sun glare at 6pm. Keep in mind that everyday that should be less of a problem. Last week during the womens game in the 3rd period the home bench was awash in sunlight for a time. They had the shot clock up but not working during last weeks womens game, it hung on the west end wall where the RPI banners hung. As for the game, tough to really judge. One player who stood out to me the most was Halpern...he hit anything that moved! AAG was also very involved. A moment of "hold your breathe" when York came up limping after a collision. Did they finish their checks like it was an ECAC game?...probably not. IMO, I wouldn't draw any conclusions from this game, one way or the other

Many of the game threads have had very little activity- both of us have bumped them up to the first page at times. I would think you should take it differently for each opponent. You know we will get more action for the ECAC opponents most times. I doubt we will get much activity against some teams. Just my 2 cents.:)

I think NC games we can do without a thread. And then take it by team with ECAC games.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

To all watching last night I am surprised we havein' heard line combinations and how they played together.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Thanks to all for the reports from the R&W game. I look forward to seeing the lads lace 'em up on Tues. night for what should be a high tempo/scoring game.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I know that this is a triviality, but I wonder why they changed the name of the scrimmage from "Red and White" to "Cherry and White". I do, of course, know that Cherry is the correct color.

Trying to be politically correct? Maybe the cherries felt left out.
