Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Sullivan's blog, "Disadvantageous," notes that our Dutch friends from Schenectady have converted 41.9% of their power play opportunities thus far this season. :eek....

FWIW U's penalty kill is 25/29 .862 and they are averaging 5.5 GPG

RPI's PK is equally stingy 37/ 42 .881 PP is an anemic 7/37 .189

On paper, its advantage U...they've outshot and outscored opponents by a wide margin. Thankfully, the game is played on the ice.

And it is a big rink-not sure who that favors but I suspect it would favor a team with the higher powered offense and work against a good defensive team whose defense has to adapt to the bigger and deeper corners. I would guess from the early season stats that this is a slight plus for Union but it is very debatable. I also suspect that coach SA will still be experimenting a bit with his line up and perhaps even play Bryce in goal. I would not attach a tremendous amount to the outcome of this and it's final score-I would though look carefully at which team seems to match up better on the ice and controls most of the play. It will also be interesting to see how much ferocity is on display between these 2 teams who could face each other more than 3 times this year.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

not sure if this has been mentioned but according to notre dame thread we will be playing them next year

Not sure if RPI plays a 2 game set in South Bend or vice versa or if RPI could be ND's first round opponent in the Shillelagh Tournament next season.

The post said it was in South Bend, but no other details.

Were you able to find a link to that interview with Coach Jackson on WSBT's website? So far next years schedule has 22-ECAC league games, 1-@ Army, 1-@ RIT, 2-Colorado College, im guessing at least 1 non-conference game vs Union and 2 @ Notre Dame. That possibly leaves only 5 more games to fill for next season.

I didn't look for a link. Could we also be paying a return visit to Niagara?

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

We played at Niagara last season, so I figured this seasons Niagara game was back end of the series.

I forgot. You are correct of course.

I just looked on WSBT's website and didn't find an interview with Coach Jackson.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Why should he complain as a guest of another person's radio show? He has a blog for which he writes, and voiced a disagreement with one of the choices there. Why beat a dead horse?

Because that's wht he does. he is 80% fna (Phillies, Union) and 20% journalist.

I had read somewhere on one of the Michigan Tech threads over the off-season that they are getting rid of the Superior Showcase next year featuring LSSU, MTU, NMU and UMD. So that frees up 2 games for each of those teams, I wouldnt mind seeing a series against MTU and LSSU was just at the RPI tournament last season.. possibly a return trip in the works somewhere down the line...

Don't be down on OPP (our power play). It wasn't that long ago we scored at less than half that clip. In any case, it's not the 90s, under 20% ain't that bad anymore. Our PP is scoring at a higher percentage than most others in the country. An over 40% power play for Union tells me that they are going to come down to earth.

Tack on two more for the holiday tournament, and at least one more for the Christmas Lake Placid Showcase (though potentially will be our NC vs Union).

I happily stand corrected. :D
