Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I'm not sure if you saw (or how you missed) Malchuk nearly getting his head torn off in the Niagara crease trying to bury a rebound?? Some things don't show up on score sheets but are essential for wins. Also, Joel's relentless work on the PK should be all you need to know about why he's out there. That line has brought a ton of energy and created several good chances..rest assured they're gonna get their points.

I learned all I needed to know about Joel Malchuk a couple of years ago in Princeton-I saw a sickening injury occur and his leg was twisted in a position that it was never meant to be in. He still tried to get up and skate and continue. When they took him off the ice right in front of Jenny and I, we got a real good look at the injury and the look on his face. I felt we might have lost him for the rest of his career-but he gave a thumbs up to his team and coach and staggered with help off the ice. He has fought his way all the way back-this kid has the heart of a hockey player and you get 100% every shift, every night.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Just a few takes for this past weekend.
1- The lines Seth are playing seem to be really gelling right now. It will take someone not doing there job hard, to get Cullen or Burgs back into the lineup,
2- The penalty played attacking for 5 periods of hockey. The 3rd period Saturday night I think they were tired. Couldn't go out and attack as we had been doing and Niagra's crisp passing along with the awful reffing brought the game into overtime.
3- Our defense for the most part is huglely improved from last year. They take the body more, less extending periods of breakdowns and opponent time in our zone. They are young and had a few of those this past weekend but hopefully will get better.
4- Koudys and Lebouf seem most likely to be alternating friday/saturday night games.
5- Higgs will be a college hockey star. His family and him ate next to us at Manorys Sunday AM and we chatted almost whole time.

HOPE TO SEE RPI WELL REPRESENTED IN PLACID SATURDAY. SEE YOU UP THERE.

ps.
cant spell sucks with out the U

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

("meaningless") Polls are out. RPI is tied for 20th in USCHO.com with the Gophers, and on USA Today has 6 votes, tied for 19th.

Correct FD-meaningless for at least the next month or 2 at least. But still nice to be mentioned. I always feel a bit weird about seeing teams ranked that have played zero games so far. Yes I know Yale and Cornell are highly rated-but it just looks funny to see a 0-0-0 record listed while other teams have played 6 or more games.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I would assume, similar to "32 seconds" from last year, that it will remain a "family secret". Maybe a player was chewing it during a big win, butthat's speculation. I probably won't pursue it much more.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear enough. The RIT players were sniffing something, not RPI:)

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Insert obligatory post about polls being meaningless here.

It seems B12 I was right about us cracking the Top 20 in the "meaningless" polls. While I agree with your larger point, it is good to see us in the top 20 and I'm sure it doesn't hurt with recruits that are looking at us this time of the year.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Did you notice AD Jim Knowlton was MIA Saturday night? He was in Denver with son Chris for DU's hockey Parents Weekend.

mwade,
I noticed that your signature states that you have photos on line from an RPI men's game from this season. I didn't find any from the link, although there are several games from past seasons.

She took some of the RPI/Northeastern game. I had seen them about a week back.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Sorry about that - that's the gallery for USCHO (also found on the recap of the game). It stays static, but I create another gallery on my site that will get all the images. I'm just unfortunately behind; working on your game now. I want to finish it and then I'll go back to having "partial" galleries available since I shot 5 games over this past weekend and starting Friday will shoot 11 games over the next 10 days.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Higgs snubbed for ECAC Rookie of the Week in favor of a SLU freshman who scored a hat trick in a 3-3 tie against Western Michigan. Higgs was a nominee at least. York was also nominated for Goalie of the Week but Union's Kincaid won it.

Carey: 0-0-0, 3-0-3, 1 game-tying goal
Higgs: 1-1-2, 2-0-2, 2 game-winning goals.

Perhaps I am a bit jaded here and it is not a great rip off by any means-but my vote goes to a player who performs well in 2 games rather than in just one. A player getting 2 points in each game rather than a player geting 3 in just one game and most of all to a player getting 2 game winning goals versus a player getting one game tying goal. I must admit though that a hat trick for a feshman is quite an achievement. Just my 2 ¢

I still haven't recovered from Adam Oates losing the Hobey Baker Award to Bill Watson. :)
