Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!
I learned all I needed to know about Joel Malchuk a couple of years ago in Princeton-I saw a sickening injury occur and his leg was twisted in a position that it was never meant to be in. He still tried to get up and skate and continue. When they took him off the ice right in front of Jenny and I, we got a real good look at the injury and the look on his face. I felt we might have lost him for the rest of his career-but he gave a thumbs up to his team and coach and staggered with help off the ice. He has fought his way all the way back-this kid has the heart of a hockey player and you get 100% every shift, every night.
I'm not sure if you saw (or how you missed) Malchuk nearly getting his head torn off in the Niagara crease trying to bury a rebound?? Some things don't show up on score sheets but are essential for wins. Also, Joel's relentless work on the PK should be all you need to know about why he's out there. That line has brought a ton of energy and created several good chances..rest assured they're gonna get their points.
