RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I also disagree. Bailen is not tall enough to elbow the guy they said he elbowed. He stood a guy up at the blueline. End of story. It was a BS call. Another example of ECAC officials evening things up. Bailen was an absolute warrior last night.

Agree or disagree, I saw it as elbow contact to the neck/head area. It is my understanding that those fouls were supposed to be major penalties this year, so a minor was a lucky break IMO. Clarkson got a similar fortunate call in their game as well with Pokuluk getting called for roughing, when it was clearly contact to the head.

Rumer has it they were paging Dr.Kavourkian to the Cornell locker room after saturday's game.

Thought this was worth posting:

RPI Athletics said:
TROY, N.Y. - Senior wide receiver Pat McCarthy had eight receptions for 111 yards and two touchdowns to lead Rensselaer Polytechnic University to a 21-7 Liberty League football victory over local rival Union College Saturday night at East Campus Stadium in the annual Dutchman Shoes Trophy Game.

Something they haven't told us yet? ;)

let's stop playing hockey and have all the players compete in tiddlywinks.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Ralph, thanks for that perspective. You always have your A game on and we are going to need it in the absence of Red Cloud whom was particularly adept at finding clips on youtube. Especially the now infamous Rogic clip :D

Nice find Ralph. If you find Clarkson/SLU highlights, can you post them on LGT. Thanks.

After seeing the video, it was pretty clear he was pushed (as I thought) but I do think he may have embellished his way to the goaltender a bit.

That clip is on the RPI (RPU  ) Athletics website. It wasn't hard to find. :)

I share in agreement with the statement about Bergin. Coach needs to send a message to him somehow, he is making me scared each time he touches the puck. I was behind the Union goal in the third period for the two goals scored. The video posted helped me figure out how that 3rd goal went it. Crowds were great for both games. Great showing by the RPI fans as usual, the band was good and fun to have in the arena. The Clarkson fans harassing everything the band did got old pretty quick but whatever it was like a home game for them. I plan on making the trip out to Harvard next saturday night.

B12 we'll most likely stay in the top 20 of those "meaningless" polls. Eh?

Pretty cool to see the 1932 rink hopping with Can/Am tournament going on. A local team Clifton Park Eagles were playing in the tournament going on. Not sure what age group. Certainly no loss of income this weekend for the folks at ORDA and Lake Placid hotels/pubs. :)

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Just got back from the trip to Lake Placid a couple hours ago. Both rinks are beautiful and I wish I could have seen them when they were used for the Games. Quick side question: Anyone know what the flags hung in the 32 Rink signify? I thought it might be teams that played there in the 1932 Olympics, but I didn't think Japan would have played. (Answering my own question, Japan participated in the Winter Olympics, just not in ice hockey.)

The Clarkson fans were certainly out in force, both at the games and at the brewpub. Oh dear God, how I hate the band and their fans, but they are the epitome of why college hockey is awesome.

For our game, I wish the offense would have showed up for more than 11 seconds, but we kept Union from generating any kind of momentum when they didn't have an extra skater on the ice. I guess that's something. The elbowing call on Bailen was terrible. I could have seen an argument for roughing, but all it was was him standing up a guy at the blue line with his hands hitting the top of the chest. His elbows were never anywhere near the Union player. Terrible terrible call. Crowd support wasn't there, but I don't have a fix for that.

I can only imagine the atmosphere in the 1980 Rink for the Miracle on Ice.

I'm really happy that the four of us decided to make the trip up. I can't wait for the home and home series against Union to see if one team can pull bragging rights from the other.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Oh, and as an addendum to my post (I'm doing the PtC right now and it made me think of the announcer for yesterday's games...) HE WAS TERRIBLE! ABSOLUTELY GODDAM AWFUL!

If you're given a pronunciation chart, use it! If there's a penalty, read it before the penalty's half over! If there's a goal, read the names twice, so that the people celebrating when you read it the first time hear who scored! If there are two goals in quick succession and you didn't finish announcing who scored the first goal, then read it again after the second goal celebration is over! And, you don't need to hype up the game for the people that are already there! And and, don't grab every single person with a costume for the costume contest. Be selective. Otherwise, the intermission ends up running long.

The announcer is on the marketing team for ORDA and probably hasnt done much hockey announcing in his career. I do know he works the summer ski jumping events at the ski jumping facility. Those events are fun and he does a great job with them. Maybe an email to ORDA with suggestions of announcers for next year would work...or you could voulnteer to do it.

I understand that he's not naturally a hockey announcer. And, I'd be more than happy to do it next year. Or, they could do what is commonly done at neutral events, which is to use the announcer from each team for one period and have the arena host for the third.

Or, because it's their site, let them do the job instead of the schools trying to take it over. I'm just happy I was able to watch almost 130 minutes of hockey on a Saturday night.
