Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Because that's wht he does. he is 80% fna (Phillies, Union) and 20% journalist.

He's paid by the Schenectady newspaper to cover Schenectady's Union College hockey team...that's his primary job and focus. Sadly, the fact that he does such a good job covering the entire league is apparently lost on you.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

For the football fans-RPI defeated Union 21-7 to claim the Shoes back. Good game and this RPI team still could have a chance for a post season game if they win their final games. A very successful day for RPI football.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

That makes four times in the last five years that RPI has claimed the Dutchman's Shoes. :)

Heady stuff for those of us who went through our four years without ever seeing the football team win a game against Union. ;)

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Just returned from Lake Placid....overall good effort.......some thoughts

1) Union 2nd goal sure looked like Goalie Interference to me
2) Bailens elbowing penalty was a bogus call
3) Bailens embelisment call was pure unadulterated Bull S..t !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4) And most important Bergin has to...has to...has to start taking BETTER CARE OF THE PUCK

Just got back from the two games. H@xx0rzing a dialup connection FTL.

I think the RPI team was still on the bus for the first period. Great to see they showed up for the second half and most of the third, with the exception of the end. I could complain about refs, or anything else, but when it came down to it, we had a chance to protect the lead at the end of the 3rd period, and we couldn't do it. I'm OK with a tie (obviously would have preferred a win), not TOO happy with the process, but I think it's a good tune-up for league play. That's what we need to get ready for, and hopefully our boys are ready for it next week.

Stuck around for the second game, and it was a VERY tight defensive game. We REALLY have to be crisp with moving around the puck and finding a good shot when we play the North Country. Granted SLU was luckier than Chris Moneymaker (2003 WSoP champ) with the defensemen bailing the goalie out, and CCT has a real drive for the net; they pretty much controlled the game.

Also, I know he's a bit new to our forums and doesn't post often, but I do want to give nuptial congratulations to pensfan08 and his wife.

4) And most important Bergin has to...has to...has to start taking BETTER CARE OF THE PUCK

I will give an amen to this one. Obviously I won't share the same thoughts that some people (who are probably secreting yellow liquid at this point in time), but this has happened quite a few times. I certainly hope he is called out on this by Coach in practice and he starts to step up. I don't expect Coach to call out a defensemen in the paper at all (similar to AAG) simply because he'd be telling the opposition to pass it to the guy he is marking at that time, but I do fully expect him to teach accountability and game discipline.

1) The second goal was properly not called goaltender interference becaue the UC forward was pushed into York.
2) The elbowing penalty was legit (and wasn't the only one that should have been called).
3) I didn't get a close enough look at the embellishment call to tell.
4) Yeah

4) Yeah

Regarding the first point, some people I was sitting near claim that the UC forward was pushed in another direction, and decided to fall into York and draw the situation. I don't know if that's true or not, but my original standpoint regarding complaining about the refs stands, although I have been known to give the refs "assessments on their performance" after a win.

Even headier for those of us who saw us go through 4 years without winning against anyone!! Gosh we were horrible in the early sixties. Coach King deserves a ton of credit. This win makes the season a success regardless of the other games.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

You guys are probably the only ones that could give me an unbiased answer.

Is Clarkson back?

I'm a Clarkson fan and I can try to give you an unbiased answer. That answer is that I don't think we're as bad as the coaches and media picked in the poll. There is some good young talent on the team and there is talent that was on the team. However, if you want to judge from last night's game alone, it would be a mistake. SLU outplayed us for almost the entire game until the last 7 minutes or so and then into OT. I think this team has a bit more fire and a bit less "roll over and die" but I think it will be another year (maybe 2) until we can make a serious run at the top 4 in the ECAC.

I also disagree. Bailen is not tall enough to elbow the guy they said he elbowed. He stood a guy up at the blueline. End of story. It was a BS call. Another example of ECAC officials evening things up. Bailen was an absolute warrior last night.
