Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Not good location-that is Christopher Reeve level. C2 is level is extremely delicate and hard to stabilize. Normally high enough to affect breathing and respiration in addition to all the motor and sensory levels below. Hopefully it is all swelling and mild compression and not any clear cut full cursh injury to the cord. Gosh this sobers you up quickly when you think about these kinds of injuries.

Hockey is a great game and part of the attraction is the hard hits and the speed at which the game is played.
Nobody wants to see or even hear about this kind of injury. The kids playing college hockey are playing for love of the game and hopefully a pro career. They give it everything they have in that persuit.
Their families have invested time and money and most of all love in their children.
I can only hope for a full recovery and a long healthy life for Jesse Martin and his family.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I understand that he's not naturally a hockey announcer. And, I'd be more than happy to do it next year. Or, they could do what is commonly done at neutral events, which is to use the announcer from each team for one period and have the arena host for the third.

You are kidding, right? I have never seen a neutral site use three PA announcers in one game. they usually use their "House Announcer," or bring in someone locally with experience in a particular sport.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I share in agreement with the statement about Bergin. Coach needs to send a message to him somehow, he is making me scared each time he touches the puck. I was behind the Union goal in the third period for the two goals scored. The video posted helped me figure out how that 3rd goal went it. Crowds were great for both games. Great showing by the RPI fans as usual, the band was good and fun to have in the arena. The Clarkson fans harassing everything the band did got old pretty quick but whatever it was like a home game for them. I plan on making the trip out to Harvard next saturday night.
...couldn't agree more with this on Mikey. He's looking more like a deer caught in the headlights with each passing (no pun intended) game. Maybe a night off and a seat in the pressbox is needed for some perspective...on the flip-side, JFK is turning into a serious shutdown D man.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

We are talking about it because you brought it up...if you never said anything this wouldnt be talked about. I loved it up there, great games, loud crowds, all that was needed was the ability to clear the puck from the zone in the last 30 seconds and we would be talking about a win instead of a tie.
And I also brought up the crowds, the games, the arenas, the experience, the terrible refs; at least five other topics. Why is this the only thing getting a response? Well, that and we're talking about Bergin's inability to play the puck. I thought he did well on the PP, but, you're right, I was unimpressed with his play in the defensive zone.

And I gave two concrete examples. And if the house announcer had had any experience with hockey, then there would have been no issue.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

According to last year's media guide, the 7 penalties in one game is still a record. He averaged 1.92 penalties (not penalty minutes) per game in 66-67, also still a record.

Thanks RB for finding it-I was just going off my memory. Colin was indeed a trip-IIRC the 7 penalties were against SLU in a game that had so many penalties called I filled up 2 scoresheets. (about 40-45 years ago)

I would have thought that in this amount of time someone would have broken these records-like Bruce Coles!

For anyone even thinking about attending the RPI-Princeton game at Princeton on February 5th-It is a 4 PM start and the tickets went on sale this morning at midnight. Jenny and i should be there as usual. There are currently good seats available but these usually go fast as often there are more RPI supporters there than there are for the home team. Anyone interested-go to goprincetontigers.com and order on line. Tickets are $10 each plus a $1.50 handling fee each.

I will be putting in my order today. Is there a section for the visitors? Or do you just get what they assign?

For those who keep score during Whose Line is it Anyway...

RPI is ranked 18th in USCHO.com, while USA Today has yet to be released.

That breeze you felt was Cornell heading past us on the way down. :D

EHF-When you order they offer the best seats available. I have used this method before and always gotten great seats. If you wait too long to order you get an end zone or heaven forbid the second deck of the end zone. The NJ Rensselaer Club usually buys a block of tickets but I am not sure where they will end up. There is a map of Baker Rink on the site-anything on either the north or south side is good as long as you are central to the face off circles. We got section 124 and I suspect we were among the first to get into the site to order(just left of the penalty box). Remember that it is colder than heck in there and the closer you are to the ice(there are only 6-8 rows of seats at ice level) it is even colder. Wrap yourself in something furry when you come-we'll be looking for you.

Felt more like a hurricane from where I am sitting:)
Stands out a bit that they are the only team without a victory that is ranked though.

RPI's current 6 game unbeaten streak is their longest since November of 2007 (will be over 3 full years ago once RPI next hits the ice). A win or a tie on Friday would extend RPI's unbeaten run to 7 games, the longest since February of 2002, over 8 years ago.

We certainly have been quite mediocre (or worse) recently.

Reluctantly have to agree-this has been one of the longest down trends for us since I have followed the team. Thankfully that time seems to be just about over.

If we start league play 0-4, it's all your fault for jinxing the team. :p

Thanks Doc, we are in the same section. See you in February.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I don't think Colin liked anyone on the ice who had skates on-he would hit his own teammates if he had to. Doesn't he hold one of the RPI penalty records for a single game (7 penalties in one game) or minutes per game in a season(almost averaging 2 minutes per game)? I go back a little further and am kind of fond of the game Freddy Kitchen brought. He defiinitely took the shortest distance to the puck-and arrived in ill humor!
He also played in the era where fighting was allowed. He was good w/his fist kinda reminded me of a fellow some will remember...John Fergusen of the Montreal Canadiens.Make no mistake Colin was one Tough Hombre. As I have mentioned on this board when Dale Watson passed away Colin was my gym teacher in grammer school and as tough as he was he also was one of the nicest guys I ever met.

I recall watching Colin on the ice and lots of scraps he got into. He won most of them and never took more than he gave. Back in the 60's we had lots of guys like that. I remember what happened to forwards who even dared to set up in front of the crease when Billy Sack was in there-their ankles told them that was not a wise thing to do.
