Though i'm a believer in that situation if Halpern does decide to shoot, he needs to put it hard on the ice so that the rebound pops out rather than putting a shot high when there was no opening

Oh well, I have a feeling we'll finish some goals tonight :D

To beat goalies at this level( especially one highly rated) if you get him to commit as he did with Halpern you always pass the puck. Polacek had beaten his man and was wide open and had the entire net to shoot. It is basic 2 on 1. If this team could capitalize on these plays they will come out with the win.

I think the "dreaded second period" is over and the "dismal first period" has begun
York just...sucks. Horrible, every shot beats him no matter where it is as long as its not directly in the center of the net. He has to stop a couple of those but he isn't even coming close, 1 on 1 with a goalie should not equal an automatic score by any means but it has every single time these past 3 games. It's literally like he has forgotten every single thing he learned over the summer and has lost any natural ability he once had. The sad part is that Appert knows it, but also knows that Merriam can't win them any games either with the way he currently plays.

the best compliment you can give a goalie is that he makes up for your teams mistakes; but right now York is just emphasizing every bad pinch, unlucky bounce, stupid penalty, or turnover that we commit.

Also, what was up with Appert breaking up the peoples line? it clearly threw off chemistry and I the only reason I can come up with is that it wasn't producing points as of late but they've created more chances than any other line by far and it's more that Pirri has been off than anything else.

oh and before I forget(haha) the reffing was terrible and gave Colgate a free goal as well as taking away one of ours, the linesmen were a freaking joke and I can't help but think that they use a certain brand of toothpaste and might just prefer it to other tea...brands.

Larkin is more skilled than i remembered him to be.He has really developed into a nice player.(still has an excellent chance to play in the Big show) It is good to be old . You can discover the same surprising facts over and over again. I thought the referees were equally bad on both sides of the puck. They took a goal away from Colgate too, due to "unfastened head gear"? (which became dislodged by one of Jerry's elbows i think) Based on some of the posts today and articles i have read recently, it looks like it may be time to play that fun filled game called " blame the goaltending".Everything thing else is off limits.

We did indeed play a horrible first period-we were lucky to get out of it down only 2-1. The play was all in our end and the Colgate forecheck kept us hemmed in for 20 minutes. The second period was a different story as we vastly outplayed them and got the game even. The third period would be critical and unfortunately we came out a bit sluggish and gave one up early. We had several decent chances but could not convert. I also think breaking up the People's line cost us some chemistry and rhythm out there. D'Amigo played well but still looks a bit tentative. As far as York-he just did not come up big and make the saves he needs to. The goals were not terribly soft, but most of them were in the stoppable category. He just did not look set and comfortable throughout the game. The one bright spot-our power play did click very well and for the most part kept pressure up throughout. This weekend we had 2 games that we could have, should have, and might have-but just didn't. We played just well enough to lose both. Maybe we can save the week with a victory on wednesday night.

How about instead of getting on York's case, you get on the defense's case for making two brutal turnovers that lead directly to goals. Hanging your goalie out to dry all the time is no way to help him out. Colgate's fourth goal happened because a man was left all alone in front. Very poor defensive effort tonight.

I believe it was a combination of both. York hasn't been sharp enough the last few games, and the defense needs to step up their game as well. I also think we need to score more on powerplays. I thought that was the difference at Friday's game against Cornell

Credit to Colgate they are a very talented offensive with plenty of size -- which should sound familiar after the last few losses.:mad:

Colgate was clearly in the crease for their contested goal...both feet never any doubt. Can someone tell me why a supposed technology school like RPI doesn't have a big screen and goal cameras? :mad: With all the monitors, computers, main frames and millions in assorted hardware that the school is buying I find it hard to believe that striking a deal with Toshiba or SONY would be a tough sell...call me crazy

Officiating was typcally Del-like....torture. Missed off-sides, yet another night of being incapable of betting a clean face off conducted. D'Amigo got absolutely mugged -- literally -- a 'gate kid grabbed him from behind by the face and threw him to the ice as Colgate cleared the zone...no call as the back official looked on in semi-consciousness. What can you say, anytime Dell is on the ice, the outcome is in jeopardy. St. Lawrence forgot he was wearing armbands for most of the night, and the usually very competent Mike Emmanatian (AHL) was working alone tonight. Uggh.

No time to pout as Union and BU await. Wish I had more insight. Maybe tomorrow. :mad:

PP was 2-4 tonight I believe, no fault there. Cornell is an excellent team and as we all know ranks in the top ten in both PP & PK..I think we played well enough to win against them, save a missed shot or two..no need to revisit that loss.

I don't know if I would quite tht far yet. York has looked rather uncomfortable lately and he has been giving up some juicy rebounds. I do think if the defense would offer a little more help in clearing the crease he might settle down some.

While I agree the d needs to clear the crease a little more, I actually think they've been doing a pretty good job of it for most of the season. But York is leaving almost every shot right in front of the net and i've even seen him push it away from our own d.
Like I said before, good goalies make up for your teams mistakes and York has not been doing that.
If you compare the mistakes we made to the ones Colgate or Cornell did, you'll probably notice they made a lot more but their goalies were both able to come up with a couple big saves.
Actually, I was surprised at how many Colgate's goalie made tonight - he didn't look too good on paper but he played pretty well when it counted

While the later may be out of necessity, overall I like what I'm seeing with him of late.

no blame wicked, just making comment that it could have easily gone the other way. the goalie isn't accountable for a loss in my book if he gives up two goals per game.

For what it is worth, as fans, pointing fingers at forwards, d, goalie, refs, is unacceptable. It is a team game. Control that which you can control. From the get-go, getting outshot 16-5 in the first period at home, does not equate to a favorable conclusion. Especially since both teams playing this afternoon, lost last night. Colgate was the hungrier team, and it showed.
