Not directly related to RPI, but I noticed that Doc's buddy Peter Feola will work as a linesmen at the Olympics... :D

Also, FYI - this Olympics will mark the first time they will use the four official system on the ice. Interesting that the games will be played on the Canucks' 200 x 85 rink, as opposed to the Olympic standard 200x100 ...tighten your chin straps boys ! :D

IIRC, Tim Nowak also has ECAC experience in his background.??

Oh good. Maybe he'll learn how to call a game correctly by watching some REAL referees.

He is indeed on my least favorite list-but the past few years that list is still headed by Kotyra and John Murphy. Their performance at Cornell earned them that spot by a WIDE margin. They have both almost reached Mike Noeth status. Over the years the real stinkos tend to stand out from the crowd. ;)

Thank you, DrD. Thank you for making me think of that clown.

You know it's bad when you haven't reffed a single game in over a decade and you're still the gold standard for horrible referees.

Give it 5-6 years, and we'll see the number of people that remember the OTHER Murphy. ;)

You know Kotyra is bad when even after a victory we yell down the tunnel how his work was prime fecal matter.

Several of the games he reffed at the HFH in the 90's still stick in my craw. Jenny coined the phrase 'Noeth knoweth nothing" during those years. He actually made me forget about Pierre (and that really took some bad calls).

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

At the Clarkson game, there was a gentleman who was in a USA Hockey-type of jacket seated in front of me there with his kids and when I began chiding Kotyra for being a miserable human being, the guy started laughing and says, "Yeah I know he's not too well liked here." I told him that at least he wasn't John Murphy and he goes, "Yeah, well he's not really liked anywhere else either!"

The gentleman is/was also a referee and knew quite a bit about the guys on the crew. After reviewing some photos, it may have been Paul Stewart.

So what you're saying is when we get Murphy and Kotyra for every game in the playoffs, we know who to blame? ;)

Sounds like it might've been him..although his responses seemed restrained for a guy known for being a hot head. :D Stewart has two sons...I think they would be in their late teens/ early 20's now.

Turns out it wasn't him, he was at Colgate-Quinnipiac that night.

Worse yet, it may have been another ECAC referee. Yipe!

I think I might've seen the guy you saw -- kinda tall, half bald, glasses, clip board ?? Black jacket with R/W/B logo? Just wondering...

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Well, we could go to the box scores and see who was reffing each game and then figure out who is missing. Might be easier than IDing recruits. :D

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Speaking of Refs of yesteryear how about Pierre Belanger. Famous naturally for the pierre stare. First you got the stare and then you got the box.
