Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

From the game thread, probably is more relevant here ...

We've learned over the past 6-7 years how hard it is to win hockey games in the ECAC. I'm just glad to be on the other side of the equation now. The fact is, we haven't lost two games in a row since Christmas and we're in February. Furthermore, we went into the break a game under .500 - we're now 2 games over. That's something we haven't been able to say that in a long, long time.

Bottom line, every kid playing hockey in the ECAC has been one of the best on their team for the whole lives up until now. Coming out on the good side of games against teams with players like that means a lot, regardless of ECAC record.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Just another comment about RPITV.

I've had no trouble at all picking it up on my computer, and I do use Internet Explorer as my browser.

The funny thing is, I can't get the WRPI audio feed on my computer, but I don't have to worry about that any more, because now I get the WRPI commentary and the picture as well.

For an RPI fan living in an area where college hockey receives no attention at all from the local media, RPITV is really a blessing. Thanks to RHamilton and his staff for making this possible.

Are you talking about the u-stream feed or the RPI TV website? I cannot get the clips from the website to play on IE8 but they play fine on Firefox. Ustream feed is OK on either browser.

Very true-but we still should have been able to finish off more of our chances tonight-we only were able to score twice against a really poor Clarkson team that is getting blown out regularly. We don't often get too many opportunites to really put it to a Clarkson team-this was one time where we could have padded our offensive statistics.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Im happy with the 2 points. The Clarkson goalie made a few nice saves right infront of us, and it seemed like we shot the puck a bit more tonight when given the opportunity that last night. Last year or the year before, tonight could have been a different outcome. There was ceratinally a buzz in the building, it was great so see all the alumni and of course the 1985 team, and Coach A.

On another note, does anyone know if the video segments soundtracked with "Glory Days", and "Dream On", will be available on RPI.TV? Those were EXCELLENT productions. Great job to those involved. I thought I saw a mini DavidSec17 in that scene going thru the airport.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Quinnipiac 2, Colgate 0

Colgate has games against Yale, Brown & Cornell between now and the 16th while we've got games against Harvard and Dartmouth. Colgate's game in hand will disappear soon.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Whil I was focusing on Colgate (we're +1 in points, they've got a game in hand), let's not lose sight of Colgate, Cornell & Yale all playing each other next weekend. Could be a good weekend for the Capital District.

It would be good if Yale gets a few points out of it (maybe 2 or 3, with Cornell getting the extras), and we, hopefully, can get 4. Remember that of the teams above us, at this point, the only one we hold the tie-break against is Yale. Cornell and Colgate I know we still have to play, but that requires winning by 2 and 3 goals or more, respectively.

Another night, another brutal hit on Jerry D'Amigo....kid has to be a crash test dummy or something. Will most likely be at the Harvard game friday night to see the boys give the crimson fits.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

If there's one thing I'm happy with, it's that this was a very hard-hitting game for us. I was shocked that Chase Polacek took someone out, given his size! I did wish that Merth or Burgdoerfer would have played "Squish the Midget" on either 5 or 18, but oh well. Just as long as we start to step up the "enforcer" game a little bit while keeping our heavy scoring going, that will definitely do well for us.

Important 3 points, as the field is all that much closer. Effectively two points out of the bye (SLU owns the tiebreak, so 1 won't cut it), and then 4 points away from the leaders, with us owning the tiebreak on only one, MAYBE two (depending on our number of goals).

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

It is very hard for anyone to play enforcer on this team whe we have Kotyra as one of the refs-if he so much as HEARS a hard hit by us, we get called for something. It is a rare occurrence when we take fewer penalties than the opposition with him out there. Plus it is not just how many penalties, it is when they are called. We get called far too often right after we score or near the end of a period. And of course we get put down 2 men more than any opponent. The worst pairing for us is perhaps Kotyra and John Murphy. Then we are fighting an uphill battle all night. :(

For the long time fans of RPI a surprise apperance was made last night by Swarm. Right towards the end of the game Swarm walked by Section 9 where I sit and he got quite a hand and almost Beatles like screaming from some of the long time supporters. Being a young fan I have only saw pictures of Swarm before but seeing the costume up close it was pretty neat.

Now that the games this weekend are over, I presume it's safe to post this, with thanks to the photographer, GreatLakerMohawk. The RPI bookstore got itself into the mood for the weekend with their own little display.

Difficulty opening it in the browser here. As a .bin file, what should I use to open it? Do remember that I'm on UNIX, so a type of program would be helpful.

I heard so much about the swarm. I'm glad I finally got to see the costume live as well. I wish they would have had the swarm out all night, not just as the end. Mean looking thing :D

Comments from my friends upon seeing the Bee as the final minutes wound down:

"WHAT the heck is that?"

"A bee? A freakin' bee? Am I drunk?"

"Aye yi yi. No me gusta!"

Hilarious to see it - and it was great to see so much footage I haven't seen in a long, long time on the big screen including video from the team's arrival at Albany Airport coming back from Detroit.

I am surprised that they kept the costume all of these years. (I assume they didn't buy a new one.)

Merth put the wood to Beca in the final moments of the game, and for a few seconds afterward, much to Mr. Beca's chagrin...for some reason he had snow all over his back...? :D  :D

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

It just seems like the refs are calling a very difficult game for defensemen to figure out. If a forward flips the puck into the zone and as a defenseman you hit him to slow him down, it is often called interference (when you were allowed that move forever before). If you crunch a man into the boards in the corner trying to freeze the puck and the sound is loud enough, you get called for boarding. Well, at least it seems that way when WE do it. I watched D'Amigo get mugged so often and nothing getting called that it has beome almost routine. Am I missing something here?
