Rit

Re: Rit

Its good to know I am called classless when I was litterally taking the words from other people on here, and making obersvations based on their responses.

4. RIT was the great choke-artist. Always great, but 1985 was the only time they finished the job. 2001, the National CHampionship Game against Platty was their ONLY loss.

"First, why don't you pull that stick out of your *ss.

Second, I'll match my DI knowledge with you any day of the week, turd. "

"Weird how such an elite program that "dominated" for so many years could only win 1 D III national Championship. Even Neumann has 1 "

"Don't be so sure about that one. Why not stick to DIII men's hockey and leave DI stuff to those who know something about it? Of course, that would make too much sense.
I now gladly return you to your RIT bashing. Can't say I've missed this side of the forum that much since we left."

There is about as much class on here as school in July.

See what happens when those three letters are aired out in public? It always seems to inspire the "best" in people.

Re: Rit

Just think, somewhere in the world right now, Tyler Euverman is kicking the net off the moorings in a men's league.

Re: Rit

I was just reminded in an article I read today that in Fredonia's first season of varsity play, they lost to Plattsburgh, 25-0.

I personally witnessed Elmira beat down Scranton 20 - 0. But it was 15 - 0 halfway through the second period. So they did really let up in the second half. The crowd was cheering the Scranton goalie with every save he made.

Re: Rit

RIT is well respected here on the D3 board.... they always get votes in the DIII Posters' Polls.

Possibly residual from the aforementioned 'no class' game?

Good to know that you have such an extensive knowledge of Division I hockey. This tells us you're well aware of how insignificant RIT has been since joining DI, save for a miracle season last year that ended with a swift butt kicking.

Ummm, nobody was calling you classless. Are you always this paranoid?

They were just pointing out that your observations were incorrect (no one dislikes RIT because they moved to D1; it just so happens to be the timing of the move coinciding with the ECAC West finally being eligible for an AQ, which the move subsequently voided) and redirecting you to some of the reasons why RIT is jokingly referred to as classless.

Re: Rit

so what am I missing? RIT hammered some team 20ish to 0? Who cares! This is big boy hockey, not youth hockey. What are teams supposed to do when hammering a team? isnt it more insulting to pass the puck 5-8 times before shooting?
Maybe its just me

Oh please. The "no class" thing stemming from that game is nothing more than a running joke on this board. That's it. A Joke. There's so much more to the negative memories of RIT's DIII days, and so it's just really easy for the posters today to use RIT as the catch-all scapegoat.

Nope. No class. Some Bowdoin fans made it clear at the time.

Re: Rit

Obviously that wouldn't include anyone from RIT, oh that's right one lucky season and RIT is the next Boston College and the AHA is the next Hockey East...

Don't let the door hit you on the way out...here hoping RIT doesn't choke Saturday so I can watch the girls come in and wipe the ice with the little kitties once again...

I see you haven't changed one bit.... lord have mercy

Re: Rit

Thanks for the memories. While there are plenty of people around who were associated and/or followed RIT in the Division III days, we are a minority now. It really is very different. I think the majority of fans have come on board in the last five years and have limited understanding of the past.

But even those of us who spent many years with the Tigers in D-III will tell you that they would not trade a spot in the Frozen Four for any amount of D-III titles. I didn't think that would be the case, but after going through both, it definitely is.

That, and to a lessor extent the success in the AHA (four regular season titles in five seasons) has dramatically changed the impact of the program on both a local and national level. A new rink, 10,000 fans at a home game, the Cinderella run, the way RIT's fans owned Detroit, just would not have been possible with out some people who had the vision to see what folks like me could not. No way do over a 1,000 people show up at 2am to meet the team coming back from Albany, or fill the Blue Cross. No way do all the games get televised, including some nationally. No way does a player go from a rookie defenseman one season to playing a regular shift in the NHL the next.

It is different, and in this case, much better. A school with 15,000 students should be D-I in all sports, frankly.

But that doesn't take away the affection I and some of the old-timers have for D-III hockey. I miss it a lot. I still worry about the ECAC West. I love seeing the crowds at Utica but worry about the declining attendance elsewhere. And I wish the NCAA selection process was different. Using the D-I format would be a step in the right direction. Actually, it would solve the problem.

So yeah, I'm still lurking around here. Good luck to all the teams left in the hunt.

Outstanding post. I agree completely.

Most RIT fans are really quite nice once you get to know us. As long as you're not the opposing goaltender (or Carl Hudson).

I've had this argument one to many times with some of the slappies over on D2F....

Enrollment means nothing towards what NCAA level a school can have their athletic teams participated at. Frankly, at 14,045 students total, RIT would be more on the same enrollment level as most of the bigger D2 schools out there. Hell, Ferris still would have more kids than that at Big Rapids. Notre Dame and Duke both have less than 15,000 students, and I don't see anybody suggesting that they need to leave D1 because they don't have enough students to compete with the rest of the big boys. And there's plenty of other D1 schools out there that have even smaller enrollments than those schools as well. Its not about students, its all about the amount of money the administration is willing to scrap together to compete at the D1 level.
