Yes. He donated way before. Probably the reason Golisano could not have been asked at the time. Who knows, maybe he will step up now.

Only one tiny little difference: Golisano did not attend RIT. According to his Wikipedia page (insert joke about Wikipedia here), he attended Alfred. Pegula, however, attended Penn State. Mr. AND Mrs. Pegula made an alumni donation to their alma mater. Whether or not he said "use it for hockey", I don't know (nor do I know if he could even do something like that). Golisano has donated to RIT in the past, but I'm not sure he would pay flat out for the construction of a place for the Tigers to play.

Yes, Pegula said "use it for hockey" and that is done all the time. Golisano has already paid for most of one building at RIT and named a college. If he wanted to, he could pay for the arena flat out. However, he seems to be more focused on building children's hospitals these days and you can't really blame him for that.

per @SkipBerryHockey on twitter, rumors are that NBC/Versus is close to a deal to air College games. They would air a "game of the week" each friday, and each conference would be featured at least twice. Thoughts on likelihood of RIT being featured? I think it's pretty likely, but I am not sure how it would work with TWCS (Obviously NBC/Versus would be much bigger).

I would think an Air Force vs Army game is more likely to get a national broadcast. RIT doesn't exactly appeal to an audience outside of Rochester.

They'd probably air the Freakout (I know, they said Friday and not Saturday, but you never know) and, like most people do with RPI, mistaken us for you.;)

I could see RIT-Air Force being nationally broadcast - billed as the two most dominant teams in the conference since they joined. Maybe RIT-Niagara at the end of the year like CBS College Sports did.

I know what you mean, but someone like Pegula cannot have any ties with an NCAA team anymore as it would be an NCAA violation. But your point is valid of them being able to gain the funds.

If Pegula wants to build a Sabres practice facility, and then the management of the facility decides to let Canisius use it as a home rink... would that qualify as a violation?

Hey!!!! No talk of the freakout in this thread, Lerch tries not to offend anyone during the off season :D

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Offseason 2011 - Dreaming About 2011-2012 <<<<<

I don't think RIT is really at such a risk. There is no indication the AHA is going anywhere. They may not be completely satisfied with the landscape and where they lay in it at the end of the day. But they'll have a place regardless.
And as to Komey's point, I was not implying that those in the know aren't paying attention to what's going on. That would be silly. I was just saying that I would bet they aren't "out there" actively seeking a new home... yet.

You are reading to much into my point, I am not saying RIT is at a risk of being out, as much as I am saying thet would run the risk of missing a golden opportunity...

In an article on the Tiger Open (http://ritathletics.com/news/2011/7/26/GEN_0726113406.aspx)

Golfers were allowed to view conceptual drawings of the new RIT hockey arena. This exclusive viewing sparked great conversation and created quite a buzz within the room. Lou Spiotti, Executive Director for Intercollegiate Affairs, spoke briefly about the arena and also RIT Athletics in general and grabbed the attention of all that were present.

Hopefully these will be made public soon...

Maybe this is how we get some nice donations for the rink.

In reality, most college hockey teams don't appeal to an audience outside of Rochester, or anywhere else for that matter. The ratings for those games are going to be a disaster. There's a reason most college games are broadcast regionally. The national games are nice for alumni/fans that have moved out of their alma maters' regions, but aside from them, no one outside of the given regions are watching.

And what Versus would show otherwise would?

Going into the "new CCHA" is not a golden opportunity. Considering that everyone else in that league would be offering scholarships and RIT not would be one significant disadvantage. It isn't talking a huge step up in competition - as that league will likely be a one bid league with only a slightly better chance of getting a second bid than Atlantic Hockey. ECACHL is the only league RIT should be possibly looking at. Competition would be better, but other schools also don't offer scholarships.

If I understand your question correctly... They could show just about ANYTHING (poker, cycling, women's hurling, tiddlywinks, infomercials, etc...) and get higher ratings than a college hockey game, especially if it involves no-name schools like our own and quite a few others in D-I hockey. Unless it's a Big10, BC, or Notre Dame game, any casual fan appeal outside of the participating teams' region(s) is going to be next to nothing, if not outright nothing.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with hurling! ;)

Well, one (Union) and the Ivy League schools.
The Ivy Leagues are a slightly different case. Anyone, athlete or not, who can actually get into one of those institutions academically and whose parents make less than a certain amount of annual salary (I think I read that it's ~ 75k at Dartmouth) can receive enough financial aid to cover most, if not all, of the tuition. They just want the best students in their school to maintan and enhance their numbers (grades, post-graduate placements in high paying jobs, and subsequent endowment donations from wealthy alums) and will do what they need to to get them there.
And besides, if the Ivies decieded to break away from ECACHL to form their own 6 team auto-bid conference down the road, then it would really only be one other. So it would be RIT and Union (yuck) against four full scholarship schools.

I don't know, but I'm guessing it's going to be an all-out dogfight again.

Too bad for Mercyhurst, being the first to suffer casualties at the hands of Penn State. Sounds like those two guys were going to be big weapons for that team. I'm sure they'll still manage some way to score a bunch of goals and be right in the middle of the fight, too.
