Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Offseason 2011 - Dreaming About 2011-2012 <<<<<

Going into the "new CCHA" is not a golden opportunity. Considering that everyone else in that league would be offering scholarships and RIT not would be one significant disadvantage. It isn't talking a huge step up in competition - as that league will likely be a one bid league with only a slightly better chance of getting a second bid than Atlantic Hockey. ECACHL is the only league RIT should be possibly looking at. Competition would be better, but other schools also don't offer scholarships.

You could very well be correct, but I also think that it wouldn't hurt to have some discussions about it. Also I think RIT should really look at bringing sports to D-I and acting like the big school it is. But been saying that for years...

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Offseason 2011 - Dreaming About 2011-2012 <<<<<

How is RIT looking this season compared to Niagara, RM, or AF?

Niagara has a lot of scoring to replace from last year, also see how their goaltender comes back from injury. Air Force has some scoring to replace too. I need to look over Robert Morris. Freshmen class could be hugh this year, and RIT has a good one...

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Offseason 2011 - Dreaming About 2011-2012 <<<<<

Just heard some new rumors regarding the new rink. The building might start sooner than expected. Apparently RIT got some major funding for it. Also heard it might be built by S-Lot. Take with a grain of salt since I could just barely overhear this.

I have recently heard more similar rumors except with the major funding being "nearly got", etc. Interesting times. Can't wait until there is some official news.

You had to figure it would only be a matter of time before major players got involved.

Yep, the only question was "how much time", especially in the current economy.

My hunch is it's a name that we haven't heard much from. Going back to the Golisanos and Saunders and Gordons of the area is getting a little old. =)

RIT does have some sort of announcement planned for tomorrow (Aug. 2). From the RIT Hockey Facebook page:

"Check out www.ritathletics.com on Tuesday. No major news, but you will not be disappointed."

I asked a question a couple weeks ago and was told that we'd find out more on Aug. 2, but my question was not related to the arena. So your guess is as good as mine.

Maybe ticket sale info?

Yeah I'm almost positive it's just ticket info.

I spoke to my 'source' again and mentioned all the rumors here about the area south of S lot. I was informed that RIT Housing has cut the number of Riverknoll residents at the request of the Institute, and that RIT is actively talking to about 4 people to try to get large donations. He said that they pictures he saw show the arena in the area of the eastern Riverknoll apartments, between UC and Global Village - the idea behind putting it here is to grow global village. He said that RIT can have Riverknoll knocked down by the end of fall quarter if someone commits the money.

My gut instinct was ticket info - then I reminded myself that nothing says it was hockey related, and could be just fall schedules for sports. I then realized that these are out already.

So, I still think ticket info, or announcing special jerseys/a charity for the homecoming game again.

Looks like the news, whatever it is, is pushed off for a day, with more on Thursday:

"The news we promised today will be pushed to tomorrow, but with a little bonus available to all on Thursday."

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Offseason 2011 - Dreaming About 2011-2012 <<<<<

The Craig Charron Memorial Classic(hockey scrimmage) is coming up this Sunday at 5pm.

According to the D&C:
How’s this for a lineup for the first Sunday of August: Confirmed players include current NHLers Ryan Callahan and Marty Biron (New York Rangers); Tim Connolly and Clarke MacArthur (Toronto Maple Leafs); Scott Nichol (St. Louis Blues); Erik Cole (Montreal Canadiens).

Former Amerks Jody Gage, Scott Metcalfe, Dan Frawley, Jason Cipolla, Rory Fitzpatrick and Andrew Peters are on the roster. Kyle Palmieri (Syracuse Crunch/Anaheim Ducks) and Jeremy Morin (Rockford IceHogs/Chicago Blackhawks) have committed.

Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff (he fits in the former Amerk category as a member of the 1991-92 team) could be skating alongside some of his players. Nathan Gerbe and Patrick Kaleta could be part of the game, along with prospects Zack Kassian and Marcus Foligno. The Sabres players are not yet confirmed.

Local hockey products David Shields (he’s starting his pro career in the St. Louis Blues organization this season), Scott Bartlett, Greg Collins and Mark McCutcheon are skating, as is former RIT captain Dan Ringwald. Marty Reasoner (New York Islanders) could be here, too.

As for the announcement tomorrow- as I said, I was thinking hockey ticket info- but why would they call it "minor RIT athletics news" instead of just an RIT hockey announcement? They specifically said "RIT hockey announcement" when it was the schedule. And if it was just ticket info, what would cause it to have to be delayed a day? Regardless, it's fun to speculate.

Maybe the renovations on the Ritter are done? And the bonus is season tickets will be on sale starting Thursday?

I was thinking something to do with renovations might be the case, since the new facilities will be used by multiple teams(thus an athletics announcement vs a hockey announcement). But since they said "we wouldn't be disappointed" by the news, I'd assume it'd be something more interesting?

Fences are still up and there is still construction equipment outside - I doubt it is done.

Not sure if this is related to ticket sales at the Field House box office, but Ticketmaster lists that tickets for the homecoming game at Blue Cross go on sale on Wed, 08/31/11 at 10:00 AM

Looking at the Men's and Women's schedules there is only one true hockeygasm weekend and thats 11/4-11/6. The men are playing Army and the women are playing Utica. Then we get a weird partial one. The men are at Canisius on 2/9(Thursday), the women play Elmira home 2/10(the second game between the 2 of the season), and the men play Canisius home 2/11.
