You've got to factor in that when Ballard and Tanev were paired, they were the # 3 defense pairing. When they brought Ballard in without Tanev, they paired him with Bieksa as the # 1 pair, which means he was playing against Boston's # 1 line all night as opposed to their # 3 or # 4 lines like he and Tanev normally defended against. I thought it quite a mistake to take a guy directly from the press box to the # 1 pairing in the Stanley Cup Finals, but who am I?

And thats why they didn't win the cup. Ballard is getting paid top pairing dollar, so you would expect him to be able to handle himself.

As for Tanev, I think learning at the NHL level is always better. The coaches are better, and the competition he is playing against is better.

I don't see anybody replacing Shane this year as the #1 Goalie. After last year, Wilson has to pen him in as his starting goalie while giving the others some playing time just to keep them sharp.

Regarding Taven,

IMHO, Tanev will make the NHL next year, there's just been too much 'good' to say about him last season and in the SC from his coaches and fellow players.

Anyway, just 3+ months away from the first puck drop.

Speaking of Tanev... He was interviewed on DiTullio's show yesterday (or the day before, I can't remember). Nothing earth shattering, but pretty cool to hear from a former Tiger making it big.

Well looks like i'll see one Tiger in Chicago this season....Pinner could replace a guy like Raffi Torres on the big club, but there are a few guys likely in front of him.

Time to bring this thread back up. With all the conference realignment, there is a chance that Notre Dame will go to Hockey East. There is a thoght that Hockey East would take someone from ECAC (Quinnipiac?), creating a spot in the ECAC. Any thought on how likely RIT would explore that opportunity should it arise? I'd like to think they would look into it. Academicly, it seems a good fit. There would be 8 non-scholarship teams (6 Ivies, Union, and RIT)

I think that if Quinnipiac were to make a move to Hockey East, geography might come into play to keep the travel partners in place. I would think Holy Cross might be the first choice from AHA to move to the ECAC in that situation. If RPI ever made the move (I believe they were in consideration originally), then I could see RIT being a more logical fit.

I've heard that when the ECAC was looking to replace UVM (and decided on Quinnipiac) some of the things holding back Holy Cross from being considered were their sub-par facilities and their unwillingness (or inability) to bring the women up to D-I ECAC as well. The ECAC really wants the same twelve members for men's and women's competition, so I don't see Holy Cross as a likely replacement. (But then again, that restriction applies to RIT as well until the moratorium is lifted.)

If you haven't heard, Burt and Hartley got invited to the Caps prospects camp. Burt went last year as well.

Yep, the recruits this year are also showing some of the results of the Frozen Four run. Almost all of them have very good (league leading) stats in the leagues they are coming from.

The only teams I see potentially leaving AHA during this college hockey shakeup are MC, RMU, NU, Canisius, UConn, or MAYBE RIT or AFA. If things shake out a certain way in the west, there may be a couple left-over CCHA teams that could look to hook up in a new conference with some of the AHA West teams like NU, RMU, and MC that have been rumored to have been looking to go back to a full scholarship league (I just threw CC in there despite any obvious desire by that school to upgrade the program). I can't imagine RIT joining a group like that, but who knows? There is also an outside chance of a group of WCHA left-overs courting Air Force, but it seems as though they have no intention of joining a higher level conference or leaving Army any time soon. If HEA were to look for a 12th team (IF Notre Dame comes over), they could go with Quinnipiac. But then again, if they could convince UConn to take hockey seriously, they would be a perfect fit and a great addition to the conference. If UConn stays the way they are now, Quinnipiac would be the better choice for sure. Then again, maybe HEA would be satisfied with an odd number of teams again (they had 9 for quite some time before UVm). If an opening were to come about in ECAC, would RIT look at it? I imagine they would. Would they be invited? Who knows? The travel partner scheduling set-up they have would be tough if RIT were to join.
All that aside, my opinion is that ND is not coming east and will end up in the BHHC with Miami and maybe WMU, which would make all this conversation meaningless. If ND stays in the west, the east could breathe a sigh of relief and not change a thing if they so choose.
