Per a CHN article (http://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2011/07/12_commentary_welcome_to_the.php)
Meanwhile, the CCHA isn't sitting idle. Not surprisingly, it's already having "discussions," at the very least, with Niagara, Canisius, Robert Morris and Mercyhurst for them to switch from Atlantic Hockey. This is not surprising because this block of schools all wants to play with 18 scholarships, but is limited to 12 by Atlantic Hockey. RMU and Niagara previously were able to do that in the CHA, while Mercyhurst and Canisius are nearby schools who have long expressed their preference for doing so. It makes geographic and logical sense.

I can't see RIT staying in Atlantic Hockey if those four schools leave.

I'm actually wondering why they would take Canisius over RIT. Perhaps the travel to South Henrietta vs. Buffalo? Canisius doesn't even have their own rink, not to mention it doesn't seem like they put much into their program.

Actually, in speaking of rinks, when is your full-size rink expected to be completed?

I haven't heard anything about it, and I don't think anyone has. Last I heard, they were still quite a ways away from the money they need to raise first, and so no date has been set yet. I have also heard a few rumors on location, but nothing is finalized yet.

That may be one reason why Canisius is being considered over you guys. I'm not sure if the CCHA would make a mandate for you to play all your games at the Blue Cross Arena because it's at least NHL regulation size. That would be a first step for getting out of Atlantic. Heck, Quinnipiac had to play all their men's home games at the Whale when they joined the ECAC because Northford Ice Pavilion was too small (although in capacity, not necessarily rink size).

If Niagara, RMU, and Mercyhurst were to go to CCHA it would pretty much be expected for RIT and AFA to be in the final every year. tBTHC is fracking everything up. If this were to happen at least UAH would have a home in AHA.

I don't think RIT would want to go into a league where all the other teams offered all 18 scholarships. As far as rink goes, as soon as they get all the funding in they'll break ground (so 2-4 years is my bet).

If they voted for the scholarship increase in the recent vote, why not?

There's really only three place on campus where it could logically go with what they want to do. And there all in the same general vicinity.

I don't know. It hasn't been confirmed whether or not RIT voted for it or not.

I have heard multiple rumors: Across from the main campus entrance on the north side of Jefferson Road, where N lot and the practice fields are, the current baseball field location, and even in the current Riverknoll location. They all have advantages and disadvantages.

A team with an under-dimensioned arena is less appealing than one with no arena at all? Hard to believe.

Regardless, I can't see RIT wanting to switch to CCHA unless 'Hurst and Niagara both move -- and even then I think they'd rather be in an eastern league.

And, Notre Dame brings name recognition and an up-and-coming program who can help raise the HEA's profile (not that they need their profile raised, but they need to look like they're striving to keep up with the Big 10 and the non-WCHA with recruits) and it allows them to expand, which they're apparently trying to do.

Well, I thought it was dumb that ND's in the Big East, too, so what I do I know? The Big East extends to Indiana, the Big Ten has 12 teams, the Big 12 has ten teams, and Atlantic Hockey has a team in Colorado.

Someone needs to get the $$ out of college sports. This is exactly the kind of crap Simone didn't want to deal with when he rejected moving to D-I so many times. The move has turned out to be great, once he was convinced to do it, but now the greenbacks are starting to enter into the equation and I don't like it.

The two rumors I've heard are right in U-Lot and across the road next to UC. I was thinking putting it on the otherside of the tennis courts.

If a Liberty League were formed, RIT would be a part of it and I would expect that it would be full scholarship.

The one person I talked about this (albeit back in March) was that RIT would be looking more for an Eastern league if they left the AHA. The big thing I believe is travel costs. IMO when you take all the other western AHA teams sans Air Force, I can't see where it would be cheaper playing AHA as opposed to CCHA. We wouldn't have to travel to NMU or WMU either. Lake State and Ferris State would be the long trips (assuming UAH doesn't join). That, as opposed to AFA and all the New England trips.

We know what you meant with the split, and it doesn't benefit a single current member of the ECAC. That's why they're not going to do it, and that's why it's being left out of the discussion.

So in ECAC math, 2 autobids are not better than 1?? I see that as a clear benefit to one team each year. Maybe not enough of a benefit, but a benefit none-the-less.

Two autobids are not better than one when it means not associating with the Ivies. At least, that's the opinion of some of the schools. It goes along with the whole "not upsetting the apple cart" argument. As it's been argued, the ECAC is the most stable conference in the nation and doesn't need to be affected by the Big 10 debacle.

I mean, really, no school wants to dissociate themselves from the Ivies and the Ivies have no athletic justification for leaving the other members of the ECAC.

The east side, you mean? That'd be a shame; I like that little wooded area. Isn't it protected?

O my gosh, get a clue. Canisius is not going anywhere that school is still more concern with expanding their women's basketball program than their hockey program. Not to mention I don't see any other CCHA team wanting a team who rents out a D-III rink. I think with the new rink RIT is talking about they would be willing to put up with the Ritter for a year or two. By the time all this start to get implemented RIT will be very close if not already breaking ground.

I really like the idea of RIT joining the remaining CCHA teams, with a move of a few other top AHA teams. Bowling Green, Ferris State, Alaska, Alabama-Huntsville, Mercyhurst, Robert Morris and RIT, that be a nice little mid major conference. I wouldn't be surprise if Niagara spilt form the Atlantic for a conference like that, I don't see them worrying to much about being in the same conference as Canisius. However I think Niagara needs to put money in their arena and make it larger. As the same with Mercyhurst and Robert Morris. Really no reason a league like that should have a barn that will not hold at least 4,000...

Strength of Schedule is the argument here. Dumping the ivies and bringing you in severely weakens the league. The ECAC is still able to pull at-large bids, even to the level that would be required given the number of at-large bids that would be available.
