Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Offseason 2011 - Dreaming About 2011-2012 <<<<<

O my gosh, get a clue. Canisius is not going anywhere that school is still more concern with expanding their women's basketball program than their hockey program. Not to mention I don't see any other CCHA team wanting a team who rents out a D-III rink. I think with the new rink RIT is talking about they would be willing to put up with the Ritter for a year or two. By the time all this start to get implemented RIT will be very close if not already breaking ground.

I really like the idea of RIT joining the remaining CCHA teams, with a move of a few other top AHA teams. Bowling Green, Ferris State, Alaska, Alabama-Huntsville, Mercyhurst, Robert Morris and RIT, that be a nice little mid major conference. I wouldn't be surprise if Niagara spilt form the Atlantic for a conference like that, I don't see them worrying to much about being in the same conference as Canisius. However I think Niagara needs to put money in their arena and make it larger. As the same with Mercyhurst and Robert Morris. Really no reason a league like that should have a barn that will not hold at least 4,000...

I'd watch how you throw around D-III rink if I were you, Mr. 185x85. No serious D-I league will accept playing that full time. You'd have to rent from Pegula. ;)

You may complain about Niagara's capacity, but I'd take a look at Ferris State's and LSSU's rinks. If it was good enough for the WJC, it'll be good enough for the CCHA.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Offseason 2011 - Dreaming About 2011-2012 <<<<<

Strength of Schedule is the argument here. Dumping the ivies and bringing you in severely weakens the league. The ECAC is still able to pull at-large bids, even to the level that would be required given the number of at-large bids that would be available.

I don't disagree with you at all that it would be best for all the ECAC teams to stick together (overall) ... but the 2 autobids is an advantage. Also, dumping Ivies and adding RIT would not severely weaken the league. We had a not so special year last year and there were 4 Ivies above us in the RPI and 2 below (with Cornell being just above RIT so essentially we are in the middle of the Ivies). It's similar in the KRACH (which doesn't matter anyway). So, yes you would be weakened with respect to the top and that would hurt, but on average it would be a wash (and I would speculate that RIT is on an upward trajectory).

And BTW, there is nothing outside the D1 rules about the 185x85 rink. Yes, it sucks, but it doesn't preclude RIT from playing in any league and as has been pointed out ... we're on it.

The east side, you mean? That'd be a shame; I like that little wooded area. Isn't it protected?

Which ever side U-Lot is not on. The whole campus is protected, it's all wetland.

Quite frankly, your out-of-conference record, from a regular season standpoint, has been less than spectacular as long as you've been in D-I. That is one of the important factors in determining the strength of a team. Not only who you play and how you do against them, but you have to then also include how they do in their other play. I'd include formulas and calculations, but that would require math, and I made promises that there'd be no math. ;)

I don't think he was referring to the rink size when he used the term D-III rink. He was referring to the fact that Canisius not only doesn't have a rink of their own, they rent Buffalo State's (D-III) rink when there is time available. How many D-I teams are there that not only aren't the primary occupant of their rink, but play second fiddle to a crappy D-III program? Not many... ok, ONE.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Offseason 2011 - Dreaming About 2011-2012 <<<<<

IMO when you take all the other western AHA teams sans Air Force, I can't see where it would be cheaper playing AHA as opposed to CCHA. We wouldn't have to travel to NMU or WMU either. Lake State and Ferris State would be the long trips (assuming UAH doesn't join). That, as opposed to AFA and all the New England trips.

There's also Alaska-Fairbanks (at least for now). They currently have a deal where they cover travel costs for conference opponents, but there is no guarantee that will continue after realignment. It should, if they're smart, but who knows?

Dumping the Ivies severely weakens the ECAC regardless of whether RIT were to join or not. RIT's impact can only be evaluated after knowing which team they were to take the place of. Based on most recent trends (not on historical significance), if it were QU, RPI, or even Union, it would clearly be a step down. If it were Clarkson, St. Lawrence, or Colgate, it wouldn't make a huge difference. Since the only teams rumored to leave (although I don't see it happenning in either case) are QU and RPI, adding RIT in their place would definitely lessen the league's strength.

If Niagara, RMU, and Mercyhurst were to go to CCHA it would pretty much be expected for RIT and AFA to be in the final every year. tBTHC is fracking everything up. If this were to happen at least UAH would have a home in AHA.

I'd be surprised if UAH ended up in AHA. I don't imagine they'd want to drop to 12 scholarships. Although if they were given no other option and it came down to joining AHA or folding, I'm sure they'd join in a heartbeat.

If they voted for the scholarship increase in the recent vote, why not?

It was an increase from 12 to 13 (or 14?), not all the way up to 18.

Per a CHN article (http://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2011/07/12_commentary_welcome_to_the.php)

I can't see RIT staying in Atlantic Hockey if those four schools leave.

Why not? That would give them an awesome chance at the auto-bid every year. Save for the occasional run by HC, Army or SHU, the AHA tournament could be renamed the RIT invitational :)

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Offseason 2011 - Dreaming About 2011-2012 <<<<<

RPI did a heck of a lot better non-conference than in the league.

The fact that a whole bunch of RPI's nc games were against the AHA and UAH had a little to do with that as well. A nice win vs. BU and a tie at CC is all they had to show for their Big-4 NC games.

When did Bowling Green join an inferior league? ;) Plus, UAH did beat UNO, which gave RPI a nod over UNO. Not to mention RIT's and Niagara's strength in the AHA. It not only matters how you do, but how your opponents do in their other games.

A tournament that RIT has only won once :(

I think that if Atlantic Hockey were to shrink to less than 8 teams then the teams like AIC and Bentley that don't draw fans at all would fold because they would have so few home games. Take Niagara, Mercyhurst, Canisius, and Robert Morris and we get to 12. I don't see Air Force leaving. At that point you HAVE to look at getting UAH in.

But you take AFA and MC out of the mix and RIT could at least be 3 for 4 and maybe even 4 for 4. One can only dream, eh?
Not that I would prefer to remove 5 of the best 6 or 7 opponents RIT has in AHA, just trying to see a silver lining.

When you're only drawing 400 fans, does attendance really factor in to your bottom line? =)

People who post in this thread have heard this before, but since we have the attention of others...

I think its increditable unfair to judge any AHA team by just their out of conference record because the odds are stacked against them. Most of RIT OOC games have been early in the season and on the road. With the size of the AHA and imporantance of winning the conference, it leaves only a half dozen games out of conference and really the only time a coach has to experiament with in these games. This coming year should be interesting to watch RIT face many out of conference teams later in the year than they have in recent years past.

If you look at the games, you see RIT plays a lot of them close and has come up with some impressive wins. I think also 2010s run to the frozen four shows that when RIT puts its best out there and has time to gel, they are very dangours...
