Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Offseason 2011 - Dreaming About 2011-2012 <<<<<

Some of the Atlantic teams can't get a full schedule, mostly due to their strength in college hockey. Might as well fill it out with them, and roll the dice on their strength for ability to get into the tournament at-large.
I don't know how easy it is for all the teams, but only one failed to fill their 34 game schedule (AIC - no big surprise there)

Once again, thank you for being strong in your other games this past year; we (and probably Union as well) wouldn't have made the tournament without you.
At least in the Tigers' conference games, that is... RIT's 1-5-1 NC record certainly didn't help you out much :)
Although I think Union's regular season ECAC title (more importantly the wins it took to get that title) may have had more of a say in their selection.

The BTHC will have 14 NC games. I wonder how they'll fill them out, whether they turn to the old WCHA/CCHA rivalries or look to play all the leagues.
My guess is PSU (due to geography) and possibly OSU (due to the fact that they'll have to play whomever is willing to play them - and a little due to geography) will make the rounds through occasional eastern opponents, but UM, MSU, UMn and UW will play nearly all home NC games and mostly against traditional (probably bottom half type) CCHA and WCHA opponents. I'd be willing to bet that you'll rarely, if ever see one of those four venture out east except when the NCAA forces them to go there for regionals or the FF.

UMich won't play RPI because they don't want their record against us to get any worse. :D State I wouldn't be surprised to travel; they recently did a 2-year series (one year at one place, the next year at the other) with Clarkson. tOSU was at RPI's tournament a few years back. I wouldn't be surprised if the other Big Ten schools did some traveling with their amount of NC games, although the Big Ten would probably demand that the game is at a location with a halfway decent sized rink in terms of seats and butts to fill the seats.

The moratorim expires in August. From what I have heard, I think the school has already filed paperwork with the NCAA, and we are waiting on their decision. I could be wrong though

from what i understand the ncaa has decided while the moratorium has been in effect that they don't want play-ups at all anymore or something. i believe thats what i had heard.

There was some discussion on the women's thread earlier that lawyers are becoming involved (links below). I had also heard previously that the NCAA did not want to allow any more play-ups (even in RIT's case where we are kind of half way through the process). Apparently it is going to take some kind of successful appeal to the NCAA to make it happen. I hope it all gets worked out. It would be a shame if the RIT women can't move up.

While a Liberty League might seem like a great idea - and something that eventually (even if not in the next couple years) I think will happen, the big advantage RIT has in being in the AHA is that they will more often than not be a contender for the automatic berth into the NCAA tournament. When the ECAC had their opening, RIT actually looked at taking that spot, but determined (correctly, imo) that it would be difficult to be competitive at that stage.

You are correct sir!

If we were to manage a better OOC record, the Tigers would be in the top 16 each year and I don't think we'd be having a conversation about which leauge we should be in.

I'm pretty content on being where we are right now but would like to see us play the likes of Denver, ND and the others a little more for OOC games. Oh, and of course, winning those games as well.

Even more important is that THEY win their other games (remember, opponents-of-opponents is 54% of your RPIndex). I wouldn't worry about playing the best competition so much as playing the right competition, and I realize that is tough to judge from year to year.

While we're on the topic, aside from RPI, who do you guys have for NC play?

I don't think that this was posted here. At least I didn't find it. RIT dman Daniel Spivak played for the Israel National Team in the IIHF Div III championship earlier this month http://www.iihf.com/channels1011/wm-iii. Div III is the lowest of the four classifications, but Israel won the tourney, so I assme they will be back to Div II next year. One of the teams, Mongolia, didn't show up.

Spivak had a 4-0-10-10-0 line. http://stats.iihf.com/Hydra/269/IHM2690ISR_83_6_0.pdf

There is a picture of him receiving the Best Defenseman award here http://www.iihf.com/channels1011/wm-iii/pictures/page/0/team/ISR.html

RPI & Union at Ritter, @ Wisconsin (2), @Vermont for Catamount Classic (2), and @ St. Lawrence, I think.

I think St. Lawrence is Brick City Weekend, so it would be here.

Hershey's out, and Pinizzotto got called up by the Caps. Might we see a second former Tiger get some ice time in the NHL?

Oh, duh. How could I have forgotten about the BCA game?
There's that 40-something year old steel trap brain of mine acting up again.

Probably only if there are a couple injuries in strategic positions to guys currently on the Caps. You never know, though... not that I would ever root for injuries to guys, however.

Yep - probably just depth at this point. No way would you have someone make their NHL debut in the 2nd round of the NHL playoffs without having a ton of injuries.

It's interesting that they didn't bring up Aucoin who is signed for '11-'12, but did bring up Pinner who is an unrestricted Free Agent next year.

I'm hoping for defensive injuries to Vancouver so Tanev can play up. Does that make me a bad person?

Tanev would probably get called up if Manitoba gets eliminated. It will likely take injury or suspension for him to see ice time.

Imagine, if the stars align perfectly and the Caps and Canucks meet in the finals............. Would be sweet........

Oh, and unless you're actually arranging for guys to "break something" you're not a bad person. And if you are, then where the heck were you last April in Detroit?????

Probably so they can decided if they want to make him an offer for next season.

Meanwhile, Bobby Raymond has joined the Binghamton Senators in their Calder Cup Playoff run and has contributed right away. http://www.silversevensens.com/2011/4/28/2140947/lehner-powers-binghamton-to-5-3-win-over-portland

Nice surprise for Raymond to get to move up after the Everblades season ended in the ECHL playoffs. He finished the ECHL season with the Florida Everblades with a line of (69 gp, 7g, 24a, 31 pts., +25) and was named to the ECHL All Rookie Team. Everblades Press Release on his signing with Binghamton
