Until he actually proves something in front of us no its not time :)

There's a difference between learning it and playing it. I agree with Cap though "Louie, Louie" should of left with Louie.

Let's fix this poll!

The Toronto Marlies (Tyler Brenner's new team) ask: Which addition to the Marlies roster will you be following the closest? Brenner only has 8% of the vote.

Final tally was 12%.

No new info on the 2011 schedule thread, I guess we'll have to wait until mid-summer for something.

We will probably have most if it by the time it is officially announced.

Yeah, been looking around at some schools web sites to see if any new schedules have been posted but no luck.

Here's the link to MAR7967's composite schedule if you're interested in what's listed as of today.

Anybody else read the realignment rumors thread? It starts off talking about the west\mid=west teams starting up a new league and then RIT, Niagara,etc... getting in on a 6 team league. The thread got taken over by the western fans but the first page was interesting to read.

I did read the thread - and let's face it, the western fans are more prominent this offseason so that is where that thread went. However, do note that RIT changed to the Liberty League to be with St. Lawrence, Clarkson, et al in sports that it sponsers. I'll also say that I did hear rumors of a potential realignment with a member of the RIT athletics department.

A Liberty League conference would be great. All of our away games would be much closer!

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Offseason 2011 - Dreaming About 2011-2012 <<<<<

I don't see how that will happen. That is all ECAC teams. That will not be affected by a Big Ten Hockey Conference....

One of the problems that non-Ivy ECAC league members have is that they can only have 22 NC games because of the Ivy game limit. They end up having to play each other for NC games because not enough teams have holes in their schedule. A 6-8 team Liberty League could solve that because it would create a couple of smaller leagues that will have enough NC games to go around (Ivy and perhaps a smaller AHA).

Not everything revolves around a B10 Hockey Conference. While the current Liberty League is DIII, they could look to see if they could be DI in one sport.

Or take the 5 schools (RIT, RPI, Union, St. Lawrence, Clarkson) and add a Niagara, Robert Morris, Army or Air force, or any combination of the sort. I personally would bet on Niagara simply based on distance.

To get an autobid, you need 6 members. I could see Niagara, Colgate, and Qpac as possible hockey only members and have an 8 team league. Play everyone 4 times and get 6 NC games.

ya, that was the comment i was making.... is there any chance of any of the liberty league teams such as hamilton moving their hockey program to D1? It would give a nice balance to the conference especially considering that of the 6 schools, 3 would offer scholarships (RPI, St.Lawrence, Clarkson) and 3 wouldnt (RIT, Union, other D3 hockey program). I wouldn't be surprised if the League then asked the NCAA for the other 3 to be able to.

Edit: after a little bit of research scratch the hamilton. their leaving liberty. the only one that would make sense would be skidmore.

Edit2: At the end of last year according to Krach rankings for the 5 schools:
12 union (no scholies)
25 rensselaer
36 RIT (no scholies)
38 Clarkson
40 St. Lawrence

This would lead me to believe RIT and Union may ask the NCAA for an exception to offer scholarships, especially considering that they will be in the same D3 conference as the others. Also RIT wants to move their women's hockey to D1.

I would be shocked if the NCAA granted exceptions to RIT and Union. The only way they would be allowed to offer scholarships would be to move up.

After you guys moved up, there was a moratorium placed on other D-III colleges moving up one sport to D-I, so another moving up isn't going to happen anytime soon. You'd likely be allowed to move up your women's team (we only moved up our women's team at about the time you moved up your men's team), but I don't know if Title IX has anything to do with that or not. As for the athletic scholarships, I think that bird has flown. Union was actually given a chance to get in on the scholarships back in 1991, but not only did they decline, they were actually trying to get rid of the grandfathering, along with Middlebury.

Sadly, if a Liberty-esque hockey league were to form, it would not benefit any of the current ECAC members, so they would likely be against this happening. The current ECAC non-ivies actually like the Ivy connection because not only does it help our league strength, but can be used as a recruiting tool. What enforcer wouldn't want to beat up on a guy from Harvard? :D

Someone mentioned about how the ECAC non-ivies get 12 NC games, as opposed to 7. The extra 5 NC games are nice because the non-ivies feel like they're more "tuned up" when league play begins. Remember that although the Ivy League only gets 29 games, they also must start about 3-4 weeks later. Harvard and Cornell start right in with league play, while the other four play an in-conference tournament before getting right in to league play.

Sadly, for the time being, it looks like you guys are stuck where you are.

Conversely, it seems as though since the AHA's formation, quite a few of the ECAC teams' NC games are against AHA teams (and UAH, now). Which leads to potentially slightly misleading NC records for ECAC squads. Case in point is RPI's 8-1-3 record last season, largely responsible for getting them into NCAA's despite a tailspin at the end of the ECAC season. Impressive, but 4 wins were against AHA and 2 were against UAH. So their NC record against Big-4's was merely 2-1-3, (including a big win vs. BU and a tie out in Colorado Springs). Not trying to pick on RPI over any other team, I just followed them more closely than the others.

Sadly, for the time being, it looks like you guys are stuck where you are.
If what I understand is correct, as soon as the moratorium on moving up is lifted, the Lady Tigers will be looking to go D-I. I think that moratorium expires in the next couple years, does it not?

The moratorim expires in August. From what I have heard, I think the school has already filed paperwork with the NCAA, and we are waiting on their decision. I could be wrong though

RPI played 4 against Atlantic (+2 against UAH). Looking at the other non-ivies, Union had 7 against Atlantic (though 14 NC's because they played in an Alaska tournament), Colgate 7, Quinnipiac 4, Clarkson 4, St. Lawrence 1. Everyone (as far as I can tell) had a full schedule. Last year RPI had 4 AHA + 1 CHA (with 14 NC), and next year RPI has 2-3 Atlantic games (you, UCONN/Army, possibly Bentley), but I don't know about the other teams. I see it as a case very similar to the old CHA. They had a high number of NC games as well, and wanted to fill as many as possible to get games in, so why not pick Atlantic teams, or other teams with a number of available NC games (hence Robert Morris's appearance in the 3rd Governor's Cup)? Some of the Atlantic teams can't get a full schedule, mostly due to their strength in college hockey. Might as well fill it out with them, and roll the dice on their strength for ability to get into the tournament at-large.

Once again, thank you for being strong in your other games this past year; we (and probably Union as well) wouldn't have made the tournament without you.

The BTHC will have 14 NC games. I wonder how they'll fill them out, whether they turn to the old WCHA/CCHA rivalries or look to play all the leagues.

I was actually referring to your team being stuck in terms of league placement, not division placement. I have not followed the moratorium news as RPI's hockey programs are already D-I, so I don't know those answers.
