Sports has always been considered the front porch (or something like that) for schools since that is what people see first about a school. From what I have been told, the new arena will be somewhere between 3500-4000.

I hope that number is seats ... with room for 500-1000 more standing. (Currently I think Ritter seats 1200 and then has room for 900 standing.)

I know I have downloaded this in past seasons, but can't seem to find it anywhere. Does anyone know of a downloadable (iCal or otherwise) calendar file for the upcoming hockey season?

I'm not sure who updates this, or if it'll be around after this year due to .mac hosting going away, but here's what I found and plugged into my Google Calendar: http://ical.mac.com/hydran87/Hockey-RIT.ics

I have heard about 4000 in the lower bowl. A small upper bowl and standing room brings it to 6000 capacity.

The RIT-BCHL recruiting pipeline is open for business for 2012-2013.

The Tigers add a Defenseman from the Trail Smoke Eaters.

Rajan Sidhu - 6'3" 190lbs 3/29/1991 out of South Surrey, BC.

He has been in the league since 2008-2009 but didn't start seeing playing time until 2009-2010. Last seasons line was 40gp, 1g, 22a, 23pts, 16pim

his career line 87gp 4g 38a 42pts 43pim spread across Trail and the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

I also subscribe to that one (thanks to whomever updates it). I don't think we need to worry about ical.mac.com calendar sharing going away with the switch to iCloud. (Of course, I could be wrong.)

Favot is joining Dan Ringwald on ECHL's Stockton Thunder. Some interesting stats on Favot in that article:

Favot left the Tigers ranking second in the program’s all-time scoring list (NCAA Division-I level) and recorded 130 points (41g-89a) in 140 career games. His +43 rating is the highest in the school’s NCAA Division-I era.

Any RIT fans planning to be at the RIT @ AF games in February? I know there's a few of us that live in CA now planning to go for the weekend and a couple flying from Rochester. Anyone else?

I'll be in CO with a few other 2010 alumni for that game (and some skiing of course). I was planning on messaging the Alumni association and seeing if they had anything planned, since they ususally do.

Hey gang, take a look at the picture U.S. News and World Report chose to represent RIT in their latest university rankings...

That's awesome. Lots of great RIT Hockey pics that really show how much school spirit RIT has developed. I know if I was a student looking into RIT, I'd be excited about the "college atmosphere" that these pictures portray.

It was not very long ago when you could hardly find any orange clothing in the bookstore and it was never a problem to find a seat in the Ritter. Now orange is ubiquitous and you'd better show up early to the Ritter (not to mention the New Arena was spurred on by the huge crowds consistently showing up to the Ritter).

Really glad to see RIT moving in the right direction. It would be interesting to see if retention rates have increased from pre-DI days.

Yes, they are growing steadily (as is RIT's reputation along a number of dimensions). The tricky thing with retention numbers is figuring out why. As a hockey fan, I will say that DI has certainly helped!! ;)

Awesome pics that really tell the story of the (relatively) newfound school spirit that the hockey program has helped foster. I am guessing those photos were submitted by the school. I recall a distasteful sign held by a fan in the corner of the BCA last year that spoiled an otherwise awesome photo op. Hopefully this year some better judgement will prevail.

How about our 5 former Hockey players being invited to NHL training camps!!

It would be a shock if Tanev does not break camp with Vancouver. Brenner will probably start with the Marlies and go from there depending on injuries/play. Pinner, Ramyond, and DeMike I expect will be on the AHL teams full season.
