One win away from potentially having a Tiger on the CUP. That was exciting. Never imagined being so involved in rooting for Vancouver.

Tanev didn't make any glaring mistakes which was great to see. Heck, he could have had an assist tonight. I think he did a better job playing in the offensive zone rather than battling for pucks in Vancouver's defensive zone. What an experience for him.

Teammate Kevin Bieksa on Tanev's play tonight: "He's so cool and calm he could have played with a cigarette in his mouth."

I have been in Vancouver for more than a week on business. You would not have believed the celebrations in the middle of town last night. Or a week ago after game two for that matter. Absolutely nuts!!

He should've had that assist. He gift wrapped that pass for an empty net goal, but I think the other player was so surprised at how much space he had. Should be safe to say that Tanev earned his spot in the lineup for the rest of the series. Let's hope so anyways.

Tanev got lots of camera time and talk on the CBC coverage. Lots of comments on his confidence and poise. Over on Yahoo some great words too. http://www.nucksmisconduct.com/2011/6/10/2218469/game-5-scf-report-card-courage?ref=yahoo.

Best comments were the gradings for Tanev and Andrew Alberts:

Christopher Tanev is a freak. An icy, stone cold, never get bothered freak. Tonight, even when under severe pressure from an opponent that knew he was the rookie they were going to target, he always made the right play in his 21 shifts and 12:15 TOI ( all but :05 PK time was 5 on 5 ) The stat line says that in that time, he had 1 block. But that says so little. The right pass every time. The fake shot and set up for Glass was a thing of beauty. Thank you GMMG and Dave Gagner for finding this guy. 9.6/10.

Andrew Alberts had a better game tonight, compared to the last one. Funny how that happens every time a guy is paired up with Tanev. In his 19 shifts and 11:59 TOI ( a very good 2:19 of that on the penalty kill ), he had 1 shot, 2 blocks, 2 hits and a giveaway, to go with his only real blemish, a high hit on Thornton that led to the third straight PP for the visitors. 8.91/10.

And just think we got to see him for a year. We didn't know how lucky we were.....

From this article: http://www.suite101.com/content/chr...-plays-well-in-stanley-cup-final-game-a375158

"The rookie is a lock to play in game 6 in Boston on Monday, June 13."

RIT doesn't recruit players like that any more.

Bieksa with some kind words for RIT's program in that NHL article as well:

Bieksa went to BGSU. Although he played there after Coach Wilson left to come to RIT, maybe the coach helped recruit him. I don't know how long Hoffberg stayed at BGSU, but Bieksa may have played for him. He's got to be aware of RIT at least to some degree.

Schedule-wise, if I had to venture a guess, I would say Air Force February 3/4, and Canisius February 10/11 (assuming Buffalo State isn't playing at the same time), with Mercyhurst January 27/28. No idea where each game would be (I don't know whose "turn" it is), but it may behoove you to pencil those in there.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Offseason 2011 - Dreaming About 2011-2012 <<<<<

Obviously he has no points yet, but really should have had an assist in 2nd. Tanner Glass fumbled away a wide open net opportunity off a great pass from Tanev .

"Cross-ice pass from Tanev, off the Glass..."

What's this about RIT being a club team within Stack's recent memory? Hasn't the women's team been varsity since the 70s?

Yes, something is seriously screwed up with that article and the quotes. Wikipedia and the media guide both have the women's varsity team dating back to 1975 and I remember taking my daughter to games over a decade ago and they were perfectly well outfitted with good equipment, etc. I've never heard of a women's club team at RIT (and only a men's club team in the last few years). It seems both Katie and the coach have some bizarre memories in those quotes.

I don't see any record of RIT playing the Edge in the last 8 years, the time she would have been in high school.

Agreed...I started working at the Ritter in 1989 for work study hours as an undergrad and the women's team was definitely well equipped and competing in NCAA games. I distinctly remember working several ECAC playoff games vs SLU in the early 90s (losses, but still games).

EDIT: Now that I think about it, might not have been playoffs, but definitely ECAC league games.
