>>>RIT Tigers 2022-2023 Season<<<

If my memory serves me right, we have never been ranked, ever during the regular season. I remember scratching my head 10-12 years ago thinking, how are we not ranked.

Also 10-12 years ago these boards were flooded with Tiger fans. Sad to see everyone has dispersed.

We started the year after the FF run ranked #20, IIRC. I guess you could say that's not regular season, but we did play games with that ranking the first weekend of the year. EDIT: Actually ranked #18 and dropped out after losses to St. Cloud State and UNO.

I feel like there was a couple of times we got to #20 outside that, but I could be misremembering times we got to where we are now (1st in RV) and had bad weekends the next weekend. At least this weekend is an exhibition lol. Hopefully we can handle Princeton again after that.

After a quick browse through the archives, it looks like we've only achieved a ranking after winning an NCAA tournament game...the Garbowsky team that got to the elite eight was ranked #16 at the end of the year, so you're right, never in the regular season unless I'm missing a high point in RIT's regular season history. We've gotten to the top team receiving votes a number of times though.

The other thing I noticed is our RPI ranking actually dropped from 17 to 18 despite sweeping Sacred Heart, who was #19 entering the weekend (and dropped to 23). The raw RPI number didn't go down (because there are protections against that if you win), but other teams passed us, unfortunately. Such is life in the conference.

An at-large isn't impossible with this start, but I'd guess we'll have to go 4-2 in the rest of our non-conference games (splits vs. Penn State and Arizona would be huge) and have a conference record roughly around Niagara's 2012-13 campaign. Note I didn't say it would be easy. Just not impossible. A nice thing is Atlantic Hockey's inter-conference win % has actually climbed up to .347, which historically is quite high, although that's at least partially due to the new teams on the block (the conference is 6-5-1 against Independents)

Somehow, we got one fewer 20th-place vote this week, but end up in 20th in the USCHO poll.

This is great to see. First time in D1 history and this also coincides with scholarships! I really hope this season turns around the program and brings back the spark within our community. The D&C doesn’t even cover RIT hockey anymore… and hasn’t for quite sometime.

I pulled all of the poll archives from the USCHO site, starting with 2006.
RIT has been ranked the following polls:
3/22/2010 - #20 (117 points)
10/4/2010 - #18 (152 points)

4/13/2015 - #16 (240 points)

4/11/2016 - #20 (78 points)

11/21/22 - #20 (71 points)

There have been 392 polls reported in the timeframe I pulled. RIT has received votes in 153 polls (The only AHA team with more is Air Force at 154). North Dakota has gotten at least 1 vote in 391 of the polls, only missing 11/21/2011.

It doesn't look like the final poll is on the site for some reason, but weren't they ranked in the single digits after making the Frozen Four? They were #9 in the USA Today poll between the regionals and the FF and #10 in the final USA today poll that year, but I could have sworn there was a post season USCHO poll (much like what the 2015 and 2016 April polls were) where they were either #8 or #9 as well.

Yea, I've been struggling with that as well. I don't remember this, but others have thought the same. I can't find any record of a USCHO post-season poll prior to 2011, so I'm not sure if they did them or not. Maybe Ed can answer that.
I DID find this article (https://ritathletics.com/news/2010/3...330104245.aspx) from when they were #9 in the USA Today poll which says "RIT finished the season ranked 20th in the USCHO.com Division I poll, which concluded its voting on March 22." so it seems like maybe the USCHO poll was done by then, but it was before the Frozen Four so tough to confirm. There is no article on the website about another USCHO ranking that year...so I really have no idea.

Edit: The 2010-2011 Media guide, archived at https://static.ritathletics.com/custompages/mhock/2010-11/2010-11 mens hockey media guide.pdf also mentions climbing as high as 9th in the USA Today Poll, and finishing 10th, but has no mention of the USCHO Poll. I have to imagine it would be mentioned if RIT finished 8 or 9 in the post-season poll for USCHO.

For some reason, USCHO did not do a postseason poll until the 2011-2012 season. I remember having some discussions about it among the editorial staff asking why we didn't.

Some real chances for the conference as a whole out of conference this weekend. Although not a great start with Brown up 2-0 late against Holy Cross. But Colgate(x2), Princeton(x2), New Hampshire, and Maine can certainly all be had

The officiating in this conference continues to be inexcusably bad. I'd say Atlantic Hockey should be ashamed, but clearly they don't care. At least with the ECAC refs you know what you're getting. Still disappointing the Tigers unraveled, though. Being ranked was nice while it lasted...back to conference play next weekend.

Gotta love putting up 10 against Canisius. Especially as a response to a tough hot goalie/no puck luck loss on Friday (with a poorly timed awful penalty call to boot)

In Friday's post game on the video, coach called out 3 particularly stupid penalties. They must have really upset him because he specifically called out the players. Usually it's "we" took some dumb penalties. This time it was you, you and you pulled some bone head moves.

Yeah, I'm not complaining about the amount of penalties, just the particular "interference" that gave them the 5 on 3 that they scored on. And even then it's more an aside - they hit the post like 3 times in the first 5 minutes. Anything goes in they probably win. Just one of those games. But the rulebook does say that two seconds or two strides is the rule of thumb and it certainly sounded like the contact made was inside of that. And you really should be sure about penalties called on a team already down a man.

Meanwhile, the polls must have liked that flashy double digit score from Saturday, because the Tigers are back at #20 in the uscho poll. Well, that combined with the mediocre play of pretty much everyone ranked in the bottom quarter or so of the polls last week lol.

Yeah, the number of points we've gotten hasn't been changing much, it's more the other teams around us.

Nice win for Sacred Heart over Northeastern to get us back to 19th in RPI...after a slow start the conference's .367 winning % is a pretty decent number.

Obviously it's going to be very, very difficult, but a split with Penn State (and then Arizona State later in the year) could be huge for a non-auto bid if we keep rolling in the regular season in conference.

Big matchup today for #20 RIT. #5 Penn State coming to town. Highest ranked team to play on RIT's campus. First time at GPC that both teams are in the top 20. Have heard that there are over 2500 sold tickets as of Wednesday. Will be a decent crowd for a game over the break. Saw decent sized stacks of tickets for Penn State alumni and family members at the box office. Probably be the largest opposing fan contingent we've had at RIT since the old days of Elmira at the RITter. Can RIT pull off an upset at home? A split this weekend would be awesome. Soon we shall see!

Re: The 2500 tickets sold. I was wondering if we were gonna see an uptick, both because of the Penn State name and brand and because of how their fan base both travels and is to an extent global. Really makes me wonder if we could get a boost playing in the ECAC - I know, not quite the same caliber of names, but the Ivies at least still have some name recognition - and I think we could have a pretty special rivalry with someone like Cornell.

I know, I know, that ship has largely sailed if it ever even existed in the first place....a man can dream though.

EDITED TO ADD: Also sucks this game is during break. Just won't have the same atmosphere without the students, and it certainly would have helped to ensure a pro-RIT atmosphere.

Absolutely agree on this one!!!! If this game is in 3-4 weeks................band in full force (crossing fingers that local band members show up and play today, but not gonna hold my breath) and the GA sections loaded with students getting loud.

i know quite a few friends and fellow RIT alumni that are planning on getting to GPC for the game. Hopefully that will help in lieu of the students.

Well that was a good old fashioned butt kicking.

Disappointing they couldn't get one on the power play this weekend, obviously particularly on the major today. That was the one area the Tigers would seem to have had a significant advantage coming into the weekend.

Conference tournament or bust if we want to go to the NCAA's, now. Certainly we've got a nice lead heading back into conference play.
