>>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

The only rankings that are relevant are the PairWise and RPI which finds RIT in the bottom half of D1 programs at 36. Unless of course you gain a mandated auto bid which leapfrogs you over arguably more qualified teams
Maybe those teams should either:
a. Play better
b. Move to the AHA in hopes of an auto bid
c. Look forward to golf season

Lots of good teams are sitting the tourney out but once again, it just shows that you really have to play well in the second half of the season to set yourself up for a chance to play in the tournament, either by your PWR ranking or winning your leagues tournament.

Once the NCAA field is filled, those aren't relevant in any way, either. Arguably, the coaches poll is a better snapshot of who's playing well right now while the RPI and Pairwise include (and in some ways are largely driven by) non-conference results from early in the season when this team, at least, was very young and not really close to the team they are now. RIT's RPI/pairwise also took pretty large hits losing to AIC and tying Niagara with a club hockey goalie in net while they struggled with injuries.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

This coming from a QU fan doesn't carry much weight.
This at least you might be able to be coming with some sort of information. The second part is pure conjecture.

FWIW coming from another QU fan...

The league would not shed a tear with QU leaving. Sure, a win against QU now helps your pairwise ranking but that only happened 3 times this year. A loss is still a loss. Also, it's not like Quinnipiac has had a warm welcome over their years in the league. It's been especially venomous from some fan bases and we all know about the distain some league coaches have for Pecknold.

Quinnipiac is a better academic fit and marketing fit in Hockey East. Everyone is crying that the Yale rivalry would die because surely Yale wouldn't schedule QU out of conference, well doesn't that tell you something about the rivalry right there?

I think RIT/Holy Cross would be a great fit in ECAC. I think Quinnipiac makes sense for HE. These are all things that just seem logical. Do I think a move for QU is best right now? Not really given their recent success. But to say that the league is "very happy" to have Quinnipiac, as some have stated, may be a little far fetched. As for the President liking QU along par with the Ivies, you all make it seem like BU and Northeastern are these low level academic institutions. Let us also remember that he is a New England Irish dude and the prospect of playing in Boston has to be appealing.

Good luck Saturday.

From afar I've followed RIT and marveled at some of their postseason success. See ya in Albany.

I have seen the same sentiment in the QU thread? I am just curious if you could give the short reason on why?

Well, Pecknold is a very vocal coach, chirps about a lot of calls, constantly in officials ears. He's had a well documented on and off duel with Cornell's Schaefer. As far as the team and the school not exactly being welcomed by the league and many fans. I think much of that has come with success. QU has won 20+ games 9 of 11 seasons since joining the league. They've finished 1st 3 out of the last 4 years. I think a lot of teams who've toiled for a long time and haven't had that success take issue with it. The other fact of the matter is Quinnipiac is not in the same academic league as the other Ivies. Don't get me wrong, it's a good school but they'll never be accepted by the Ivies and the remaining ECAC brethren. Finally, I think many Quinnipiac fans have come across as ungrateful or maybe a bit too boisterous at times. I've probably been guilty of this too, and when your team is winning it's easy. I've been going to QU games since they played in tiny Northford Ice Pavilion. I remember the Atlantic Hockey years. I was in high school in Hamden during the MAAC years. Some newer friends have only experienced success and I think that it's caused a bit of an arrogance that many others don't like. Just my opinion. Hope that clarifies.

Considering PWR only reflects your performance to your schedule, it harshly penalizes schools with limited OOC game that do not get the opportunity to play a hard schedule. Conversely, teams like QU who have a relatively easier schedule can slide right into the top spot.

The entire College Hockey world does not revolve around Boston. Quinnipiac's student fans are so NY-centric that their chants at The Bank have a NY accent. I think in the end QU will go where they can make the most money, I also think they would certainly fill more seats for some of the home games against HE teams.

Agreed and I think $ and marketing is way more prominent in a move to HE.

Not to mention when the league as a whole has a bad OOC record, it drags down even the best teams in the league during PWR. The bottom of the PWR is filled with the AHA doormats, and that is part of the reason why the best team almost always needs to win the tournament to get a bid.

Alumni Duel

Alumni Duel

If anyone is looking for a little “hockey fix” or "stress-free diversion" before Albany, head to Elmira to see the Jackals host the Brampton Beast Friday night. Why, you ask? Well, hopefully Brampton will start Jordan Ruby in-net, and Garbowsky will slip a few past his ol’ teammate.

Looking forward to this match-up...

(they play Saturday too, but we're not going to talk about that, are we!?!?)

Cheers!!!

RIT fans should face it. They are stuck in Atlantic Hockey.

With your track record of observations, it looks like the RIT Tigers are changing conferences. :D

More Qualified teams like say Denver, UNH, and Minnesota State? Oh wait your talking about teams that didn't make the tournament those teams did make the Tourament and lost to RIT :D

Teams in bad conferences also play bad teams much more often presenting more of an opportunity for a devastating loss to a very bad team with extremely limited upside for winning those games.

Robert Morris finished 19th in RPI, tied for 20th in pairwise, less than .0035 away from flipping pairwise comparisons against Minnesota and Nebraska-Omaha and just over .01 to flip comparisons up to Cornell. Is it possible they would have been the last team out had they not lost at home to AIC? Seems pretty likely they'd be in if you flip that result as well as just one other non-conference game (they were 3-3)...

You are absolutely correct. Atlantic Hockey is certainly a bad conference.

Your trolling is mediocre

The Atlantic Hockey champ has shown time and time again that they can play with any team in the nation.

That is true. Just look at the past games for Atlantic Hockey teams and even CHA teams when they still had a conference. There was rarely a blowout in the tournament.
